OMG!!!! Mella! Anytime I need a good cry, bam! I pop in either the 10th or 25th anniversary DVD's... And I do have an answer for you Mella about the day coming for the both of us, that being the day we stop crying and getting goosebumps the moment the show starts, and that day will be the day we pass from this Earth... Until then, let's just love the crying this fantastic play brings! We feel the same exact thing when it comes to Les Misérables...

How cool of them to bring out the ORIGINAL cast at the very end. So, so cool. What a powerful finale.

It really pissed me off when they changed it in the movie to have the Priest sing it with Fantine instead of Eponine. I was at least looking forward to seeing them singing that song together since the movie was already horrible with the bad singing and bad acting(except for Barks) and since I've seen this version(plus have this 25th anniversary on DVD). But no, change it and have a totally different character sing it instead. Dammit. They need to redo the movie and get THIS cast to be in it(except for Nick Jonas) and do it just like this anniversary. Not cut out songs or anything too. This was the best version of Les Misérables. Even better than the 10th anniversary.

The most logical to me was: Valjean saved the life of Fantine's daughter, Cosette, allowing her to live on with her beloved Marius (who was saved by Valjean in the sewers). Eponine then sacrificed her own life, despite her own feelings for Marius, which allowed Cosette and Marius to marry. Through this sequence of events, Valjean was able to witness Cosette find love and happiness before he died. *However, we wonder if any of this would have happened, had the Bishop not allowed Valjean to begin a new life!

I don't understand how people feel so strongly against this musical. Many modern musicals don't reach any of the emotional depth that Les Mis does, and therefore fails to have that connection with me. I appreciate the literal translation to "The Glums" puts people off - as may the storyline where it's known as the musical where just about everybody dies. Schonburg & Boublil captured a great balance with the Thenardiers during Master of the House, and I also find "One Day More" incredibly powerful and uplifting.

@@sarahwoolley79 I don't get it either..... I keep listening to it and keep finding it phenomenal, the music score as well as the performances. My biggest regret will always be not having seen it live... the original performance that is... it's got everything a musical should be... love, drama despair and hope... like you feel part of it on the barricades... funny how it can be set in todays America fighting for our country against a government out to oppress and exploit its people...

You are THE Lea Salonga fan!And rightfully so, she is absolutely phenomenal, so clear, so powerful but yet so moving. Class act.

Alfie Boe should had the film role. His voice is magnificent, especially here and in The Prayer.

Wow my singing teacher was understudying Alfie Boe in this performance im pretty sure. I feel so blessed to be taught by him, hopefully going to make this a career! That aside, Alfies voice is truly stunning here. Just so full of passion.

I love that in this version Javert is included here. Javert isn’t really the antagonist, he’s just stuck on believing what he thinks is right

Of all the versions of Les Miserables, I've seen quite a few, this is my favorite. But the rest, magnificent. I love Alfie Boe, Leah Solonga, Matt Lucas, the orchestra and choir, everything. The different staging is awesome. I have the DVD.

@@sallysue8176 it all goes down with vocal technique. Gateth Gates who also played Marius also sounded like a young man but it sounds theatrical. Not Ball material but good enough to be considered. I also don't know why Nick got the job.

Samantha was perfect. This quality isn't as great versus the dvd version. I'd recommend seeing the actual dvd. She is much louder there versus this version taken from an audience member. I just wish they didn't change it for the movie. I love their harmony bit and it really pissed me off when they didn't have Eponine sing with Fantine for the epilogue in the movie. I also wish the cd that came out for the 25th anniversary had THIS cast. They made it seem like it was this cast on the soundtrack. So disappointing hearing those songs and not having these great singers on the cd.

There was a really good quality video of it on KZread back in 2012. I played that song for my aunt on her deathbed as our family was gathered around her.

it's called stunt casting. They needed to attract more young audience to optimize return on investment, and Nick is a hot and experienced pop singer

@@phamapollo3175 I agree that Nick Adams is hot, however so is Brendan. I think one of the main differences between them is that Nick's (Adams) entire "shtick" is his sex appeal, vocals second. Whereas Brendan is more about the vocals, with his sex appeal being presented in a more understated manner (usually shirtless and sweaty😝). I'm not so sure that the theater crowd is ready for Nick Adams yet lol

I have no clue why my stomach got itchy when Nick Jonas started to sing, he's a phenomenal singer, I guess Im not used to him singing ballad musical songs like this

People seem to forget that Nick Jonas started on Broadway before he was in the Jonas brothers. He did great in this performance. This is not an easy show.

Lea Salonga and Alfie Boe. This must be what singing in Heaven sounds like.

This is like how the Muppets always had one real person in their sketches. Only it's the reverse, a real Les Miz cast with a Jonas brother. (I actually like Nick as a pop star, but this is not his forte). More seriously, I wasn't as familiar with Alfie Boe as Valjean and he's incredible.

I thought he was pretty good in How to Succeed.

Alfie has the most powerful voice, but watching this recording vs the same one that Colm did in the anniversary concert….I have to say that the Original Jean Valjean cannot be surpassed.

Michel Ball would be turning in his grave if he were not still alive. The Marius that inspired me to sing.

Is it just me or does the pacing kinda feel off? The 10th edition had a much more slow and contemplative melody to it- there aren't enough pauses here.

For those who don’t know but Nick Jonas started out on Broadway. Jonas was one of the last Gavroches on Broadway before it closed. There are clips of him as Gavroche. But as years passed, his voice changed due to him becoming a pop singer. He has a Broadway background but it’s been a years since he’s been on a theatre stage.

Nick Jonas (facepalm)......esp when you’re used to hearing Michael Ball’s rendition.

(spoiler spoilers spoilers spoilers but you asked) In the staged production its a little clearer. Jean Valjean is dying in a convent the day Cosette and marius are getting married. They find his location and rush to him. As they are talking to him he knows he is dying and gives them his last written confession. The Ghosts of Fantine and Eponine show up to beckon jean valjean to heaven. (Eponine is dead, she died in A Little Fall of Rain) Jean Valjean rises from his seat as Cosette cries and hugs marius, indicating that it is now jean valjeans ghost that has left the seat, not his body. Then the finale of all the ghosts of the people who died on the barricade singing Do You Hear the People Sing, and everyone in the audience cries. lol. I hope that was helpful. I hope you get to see it in the After times, when things are open. Or just look at it on youtube if you are into that sort of thing.

The way I see it is that Valjean warned her to be careful when he said “go careful now, stay out of sight. There’s danger in the streets tonight.” He was one of the only people to help Eponine in her life so she was with him at his end.
