Helps at any height. I'm 5'7-5'8 and I do barbell rows hinging too. My hamstrings and calves are tight and this way my sensitive lower back doesn't hurt. This way I can focus on the muscles that I want to train better. It does surprise me that the barbell doesn't touch his body. He's always about full rom 🤨

  • @defealeladia9990

@@adrianahaverhoek The point I am saying is: there is definitely a mechanical advantage to having a shorter torso for these types of movements. I am 6'1 and I cannot position myself in the same way Dr Mike does(him being not very tall). Of course I follow the same principles of full ROM and slow on the eccentric, but there is no way I can let the bar touch the ground when I do rows for example. My legs are simply too long, and I would have to bend lower, and with a longer torso, this makes rounding my back very likely. Also my knees tend to get in the way as well :(

  • @adrianahaverhoek

@@defealeladia9990 I get that. People with short legs (not necessarely a short torso) can pick up the barbell from the floor like that. I don't take the barbell from the floor either. I take the barbell from the rack. The hinging though is great in my opinion.

I had to look at your wrists closely. Something I've noticed is my back feels different depending on what my wrist position is at the top. With my wrists straight forward I can't lift as much weight but I get less random pain in my elbows/upper back once I leave the gym. Then if my wrists are bent like in your video I can lift more but I get random pain after.

slow and steady. i did nothing for my lower back the first 25 years of my life and wondered why i was cursed with low back pain. Well after countless weeks/months lost due to pain i finally started training it. At first even the most basic exercises with no additional weight would cause spasms. I focused on core and glutes/hams to gain some strength and mobility. Eventually my low back would accept some work. The biggest improvement i saw is when i started doing slow and controlled hinges with varying stances. After a few months i tried holding 10 lbs. 6 months later i'm doing 3-4 sets of 10-12 with 35LB x 2 dumbbells and 99% of my symptoms are gone. I still can't imagine a day when i'm doing 100's. I will likely reach a point where i don't go any heavier because of my history but i will certainly maintain 👍if you got this far you rock!
