Richard, I hate to say that I told you so, but big Cads need a good headgaskets, See Flatout gaskets for one with stainless fire ring. They also need heads surfaced along with the block and head studs for boost. I really appreciate your work on the Cadillac. Got one going in a '66 c10.

You just proven my long-standing argument that low boost is a very usable power option. The numbers at 5psi are still some seriously serious power and torque..!! On a daily driver, that is still one VERY serious amount of torque and HP....., while relatively harmless to the engine. I'd love to see a 425/500 inch Caddy or 455 Buick with just 2-3 lbs of boost, just for giggles...

I read a 1996 HONDA GOLDWING had a small turbo, boosted to 4psi. Ran between 2.5- 5.5 boost. Got 68mpg on cruise, 2.5 boost. From 35mph to 120, in under 5seconds. It was a rocket!! So, maybe it would do the same with any motor. It seems it would keep the motor from working harder to draw in the air fuel. Idk. Just my 2c

That engine looked like it was going to jump off the stand when you let off and I could just imagine what fun this would be in a suburban or an ElDorado. If all you can get for this motor is composite gaskets, I have an idea. I'm trying this on my Subaru EA82 which is a similar beast with only composite gaskets available. Nelson Racing Engines posted on a facebook that they coat their copper gaskets with a aviation sealant to prevent leakage. Now granted, that's a very different gasket, but I picked up some aviation form-a-gasket and I'm giving it a go. My thought is that if I can sort of glue the head down to the gasket, and increase the friction between the gasket and sealing surfaces, the gasket will be less likely to push the fire rings out under high cylinder pressures. Just a random idea! Worst case I wasted 15 bucks and my heads are hard to remove. But on my old Subaru, if it blows, it's probably going to really blow.

It has 2 huge rectangle exhaust side by side inlets and the snail shell has to be 12 inches. That remote mounted is my idea, but if you find one, try it! I've been a 500 caddy fan for years. Like over 30. I used to pop headgaskets all the time. If this engine is a .060 over bore you cannot use a felpro head gaskets. The fire ring in the felpro is only at .058" bigger. At a .060 over bore. Probably a couple thousands more you never get a good seal at the cylinders. I switched brands of headgaskets and fixed the problem. My current build is a long rod .075 over bore. 10 to 1 compression. Makes more power and revs better than some of my higher compression combos. If interested I'll bring my engine down. I want to do a twin turbo set up. See what we can get. If it blows up. O well.

Once increase cylinder pressure it cause the factory head bolts to stretch out it will pop head gasket. By replacing with head studs you run more cylinder pressure. ARP head studs won't stretch out like the factory GM head bolts. It's worth it in a long run.

When you say the dyno can’t load it at a lower RPM, what exactly does that mean and what is preventing it? I’m not too familiar with engine dynoes. Thanks and keep up the awesome content!!

Makes me wonder if the pressure was so high in the lower speeds, does that make the gasket have to “hold on” for such a longer duration or was it a little water that got in and hydraulics did the rest, or did the head bolts stretch and let a little fluid in. Thanks for testing

And this, ladies and gents, is what happens when you have a high load/low rpm situation on pump gas in a non intercooled turbo system. Add the high backpressure of the small turbo...and pop she goes.

Looking at a 62-1 compressor map (I believe Precision doesn't release maps, feel free to correct if that has changed) it seems like this would be a sketchy turbo at 350 NA HP. Assuming 7.5 PSI you'd be at 525hp or ~52lb/min. The edge of the 65% island is at about 42lb/min. The turbine is probably even worse. I'm betting the Precision unit is better than a generic 62-1 but 20%+ better? If they were logged I'd be curious what AITs and backpressure were. I'd be looking for a 76mm turbo even on a T4 frame perhaps even a T6 frame like an S400. I realize you're not looking to make huge power but if you have even moderate air flow the turbo should reflect it. On another topic how far does HEI on a V8 typically go for boost? Were you running an MSD box or similar? Been curious on that, want to do a budget 350 Pontiac eventually with HEI. I have the timing control already set up for it.

So wanted to see her crap herself. Excellent water pump! Would have been an excellent advert for the head gaskets if she didn't blow. Mind you at 800ft-lb torque something had to give pressure wise I guess. And in this instance it was the head gasket. Excellent experiment vid. 11/10 Richard Holdener!

When you get 1000 hp out of a sbc with aftermarket block it's hard to justify an engine with big money parts and a heavy crankshaft. Hence the cad 472,500. Bloodviking

I'm sure it's just the gaskets. I've always heard that turbo Cadillacs have that issue. I'm satisfied that engine would make a lot more power with less restrictive exhaust manifolds. If fact, that mat be part of your gasket problem.
