April is indeed a great teacher. I am an engineer and I was a teacher myself. I think it takes three things to make a good teacher: love to learn, love to pass on knowledge and respect your students. Three qualities that April has and that’s why I put her in my top 5 makers.

Great tips! One thing I would like to mention is that for a sliding gate, the floor/ground needs to be level side to side in order for the gate wheels to make contact with the ground as it slides.

The best way I remembered what direction to put a diagonal post is by thinking of a hanging shelf. Unless they're one of the "floating" ones then they typically have a bar or some sort of decor running from the bottom of the shelf (along the wall) up to the edge of the self to prevent it from flopping down and flat against the wall. That diagonal brace will serve the same purpose in keeping the entire gate elevated and not flopped.

I tried one of those turnbuckle anti-sag lift kits and it didn't work at all. As I tightened it instead of lifting the sagging gate, it simply warped the gate. I fixed the problem by designing, building, and installing an adjustable spacer that goes into the gap between the lower gate hinge and the gate post. Problem solved.

Having built more fences than I care to mention, the only suggestion to your viewers is always always always layout existing or planned seating, utilities, barbeque, etc. placement before you decide on gates. Gate placement and direction of opening is one of those things that really stinks to redo.

I enjoy passing along information but sure is hard to please everyone. Some want more complicated builds and feel I'm being lazy or slacking when doing something they feel everyone should already know.
