April Wilkerson

Hey there. I’m April and I’m the creator of Wilker Do’s.

I am an obsessed DIYer and Woodworker. I'm not professional or have any training, so I just pick the project I want to tackle and figure it out step by step.

I picked up my first tool in January of 2013. I couldn't afford to buy the things I wanted around my home, so I decided to try my hand at making them instead. I was hooked after my first project so I just never stopped.

I put out a video as well as a written tutorial on all the projects I do to improve my home and workshop. You can find my website at Wilkerdos.com

I also have a commercial and retail shop called the Wood Shed. Find out more here: kzread.info/dash/bejne/nmeGz5qapq6cm7A.html

Perpendicular with grain is a horrible approach to follow for sanding. Take more passes with the grain to get an even sand. It will also make the deck more flat with minimal raises. It will also give an even surface for the stain or paint to coat the wood.

In looking at some installation videos, I noticed that Trex strongly encourages using their clips. Would clips not work given the curve you made in the walkway or did you just decide not to use them? Trex predicts doom and gloom if you install without them.

Hi, i like it! First thought was, i need a 4 person bench! So, your structural support would be central Work left and right from there and leave the outsides open Thanks for sharing🤗 So basically two of your benches would make up a four person bench!

I'm looking to build a deck and this video is the first of yours that I watched, and I'm probably going to watch all of your deck vids. Would it have been easier/feasible to apply the joist tape *before* the joists were attached, while they were on the ground, so you weren't leapfrogging up and down each joist? Thanks!

Why have a greenhouse if it's 100 plus degrees outside? I have used one in Ontario Canada for years and even if it's 70 degrees outside and sunny the inside of the greenhouse will hit 100 degrees which is too hot for most plants.

thanks April. Your video was the easiest to follow to learn some of the weird nuances of Sketchup. Knowing when to click, and when not to, makes a big difference. The tape measure tool for offset guidelines and the tip to click on a corner with the move tool to have it find a reference point were massive time savers. This video may be old, but it still helped me out in 2024!

It's not being stuck up, it's called growth as your skill and confidence grows. My Viewers are varied in skill level. If all I do are small jobs, people complain I'm lazy and slacking, better now than that. If I do all larger, more complicated projects, people complain I've lost my roots. Sure is hard to please everyone.

My only tip would be to attatch to the existing wall on the existing studs and first checking there's no gas/wires/water being run through the wall you're nailing into.

MDF for an outdoor sign? Really... how many sheets?! Completely ridiculous and drastically flawed engineering! Could have done much better with 2 sheets of HDPE ColorCore and it would have actually last forever without any painting!

Hi April thank you posting this video. I am taking notes and will try to repeat this process at my own home. I have a question though when you make those slit cuts at the top of your post to create a notch for the 2 by 8 header, I notched you laid your circular saw down flat on the post. So does that mean the depth of cut of the circular saw matched exactly the thickness of the 2 by 8 header. I mean it seemed like it did because at the end of the video the surface of your header looked flush to the surface your post. I measured the length of my own circular saw from the shoe to the bottom of the blade and I got about 3 inches. Does that mean those 2 by 8s are really closer to 3 by 8s. Sorry for the long question I am new at this stuff.
