Is your sliding door worn out and hard to slide?
In this video we repair a badly damaged sliding door track on what is likely one of the most worn sliding door tracks you'll ever see.
If you can't find it at your local hardware store, a similar type of sliding door track "snap-on door track for sliding glass doors is available on eBay.com: ebay.us/V6Th83
I couldn't find it online in Australia.

The door is still going strong to this day despite there being very little aluminium for the stainless steel cover track to bond to.

That old door is still going strong 2 and a half years later. Honestly I'd consider putting that stainless steel track on a brand new door. Don't forget to replace the plastic rollers too, they are cheap and more readily available.

Thanks! It's fairly easy to do, combined with a set of replacement wheels it makes a worn out old door work like new again.

Why would you use Builders Bog (a wood filler) and not silicone?

Yes I think you could use silicone, should be OK if weighted down, but it takes 24 hours to cure. I guess bog sets quickly, so you could have the door assembled complete with new rollers without having to wait. The bog in the video would have been perfectly fine to work with if I didn't add too much hardener.

I used ordinary auto body filler which is used for repairing dents in cars. Just need to be careful you mix more rather than less, I had to quickly whip up a second batch while the other one almost went hard!

U don't show how you removed the glass door. If we dnt have a door everyone can replace the track

Yes, that would have been a handy addition to the video but I thought of recording it too late. Removal process involved removing some screws at the top and lifting the door up into the slot, tilting it and lowering it down. Often there is just a small block or 2 preventing it being lifted.
