    BE SURE to watch the video CLOSELY, and make sure your door is exactly the same, as your door may not be compatible!! I would contact the seller prior to buying and ask questions first. They seem to be good people. I think that my review just below may be a bit lengthy and difficult to understand. I had a horrible experience that ended up with a compromised installation that took a lot of thinking and ingenuity to sort out. The bottom line is that there are different door designs, and if your door is not EXACTLY the same as the one in the video, I believe you will have issues may not be able to make it work at all. I looked at a neighbours door today and it is similar to mine in that the supplied brackets for the front of the door keep the door from closing properly, leaving a large gap. Thus the door will not lock either. Mine presented a HUGE number of issues took the entire day, and additional costs for new weather seal and a variety of tools that I think the average user may not have. It ended up in a compromised installation, but at least it works.

    We've recently changed from a glue to a double sided adhesive to adhere the "Strips" down. The double sided adhesive makes installation easier and quicker since there is now "wait time" for the glue to dry.

    That's good to hear. I didn't like having to straighten out the strips and glue them. I installed the kit today because replacement rollers were not available at Home Depot or OSH. But OSH had the Slide EZZZ which I actually already knew about and kept it mind as a backup plan and it worked. Later when I got home I found the proper replacement rollers on the internet. Son of a .......... But I'm pleased with the Slide EZZZ.

    The wheels on my slider are gone and I'm unable to remove the door to replace them without using a contractor to do the job. My track has a vinyl strip on the bottom and then there's a round chrome track that the wheels would roll on, if they worked. I see in your video that the plastic strip doesn't want to stay down and I wonder if it would even stick to the vinyl. But the door slides seems like a great idea - will the system work in my situation? Doug

  • @Chilllybob
    @Chilllybob5 жыл бұрын

    What about if you have round head screws holding down the track?? There must be about 5 of them. The strips would not adhere properly (flat) due to speed bumps as you will call them.. The only solution I can think of is replace the screws with counter sunk flat heads. Is this the only solution to properly mount the strips.?

    one portion of the weather striping that you glued down in the video has rolled inward so it is in the way on my door, so the door is hard to slide because it is going over about a 3 in portion of one side of the weather striping..is the steps in the video the only way to fix that?

  • @sliderdoorman

    @sliderdoorman

    5 жыл бұрын

    There's no steps in the video. You should be able to just pull the "tracking strip" back over and glue it back down (after thoroughly cleaning the loosened area and back of strip first, of course). Worse case scenario, we can send you a new tracking strip.

    My patio doors are about 20 years old, and I think that this is what this kit would be targeted at, that's about the time the rollers would wear out on average I think. I cannot change the rollers; they are embedded in the frame and sealed in at the factory. I can adjust them up and down, but removal is impossible.Unfortunately, the design of my older doors are completely different than the ones used in the demonstration. The vertical weather stripping is located on the door jamb, and in the slot for the roller guides. For this reason, the sliders cannot be mounted on the door, they interfere with the jamb and the door will not close.Secondly, there is a gusset on the door frame where the fixed door starts, so the outside slider cannot be used because the corner bracket needs a clear path for the entire door travel.My door jamb is sloped to drain water away (I think most are) so the for that reason, the outside rail could also not be used. So that left few options; it took the entire day, but with the proper tools it can be made to "work" using the inside slider only. Here is what I did:I cut the "skis" from the corner bracket, and drilled 2 pilot hoes in each. The used a forstner bit to and go just enough to countersink some small self tapping screws.I then glued all 4 "skis" to the bottom of the door (on the inside track only, to give more surface or contact area) to hold them in place while drilling pilot holes for the screws. Then, screwed them in place.This created another issue. Now the door was too high to meet the weather seal on the bottom. So I bought new weather seal (not cheap, another $30) and some contact cement and applied the new seal to the roller guide where it would make contact with the slot. Now there were other issues where the old weather seal did not line up correctly, so, off came the door, once again, for the 5th time (man, they are bloody heavy) and I glued new stripping where it was needed to comply with the new position.Soooo, the result? A compromised installation, that luckily has worked flawlessly for a few days (about 40 operations). I hope it lasts, but I have doubts. I think the best thing for me to do was to simply fess up and replace the entire patio doors, frame and all, never mind these "quick fixes" that are much more trouble than they are worth.

    It sounds like you had a lot of issues going on there. Sorry about that. Our "Kits" work on MOST doors, not ALL doors. Unfortunately, there are no set standards on any of these doors. Some are wider or thinner, have single or double rails or no rail at all but a slot for the wheels to run in, some of the thresholds are sloped on the outside others aren't. It's crazy. I'm impressed with your creativity and please, in the future, don't hesitate to get a hold of us with ANY issues you may have. We stand behind our products and would have done everything in our power to make you as happy as we could have possible (even refunded your money). We just want our customers to be satisfied with their purchase.

    It's partly my fault. I should have taken a closer look at the video and compared them to mine. My doors are pretty old, and on an 97 year old building. I was hoping to extend the life of the doors rather than replace them. The weather stripping I replaced was probably due any way on these 20 yr old doors, it was showing it's age too.That being said, the only thing I am concerned about at this time, is how long the "skis" I made from the brackets will last. Since I had to remove some of the surface area with the countersink for the screws, they may not last as long as expected.Thanks to some good old fashioned Canadian ingenuity, I re-invented the kit and it is working pretty well considering LOL!! (Trump may not like that, but compromising trade by creating barriers with outside countries is counterproductive, folks like you need to be able to maximize access to "willing" markets for your products....)I do have some slider strip left, enough for another installation, perhaps down the road if my "skis" wear out, I could order a few replacements from you, and repeat the process. They seem to made of a special material, and having access to replacements would be of benefit to both of us.All the best!Don

    Your doors sound exactly like mine! The wheels are inside the door tucked about 2 inches in; they are surrounded by weatherstrip and cannot be removed; even if I could replace the wheels I'm not sure how to do it. My wheels appear to be working on some of the doors (maybe not all of them) and might be re-usable; but i can also get a brand new entire door set (all doors) and frame for about $1000 (self-install). It might be better, when a set of doors has really outlived it's useful life, to resell the set (not sure who might buy them) and replace them with a surplus set (saves you about $1700 not including time and energy).

    Well it looks like you really know what you're talking about....but, honestly I have no idea. My sliding door doesn't look anything like the one in the video. It's a 28 yr old big thing, with three panels of glass, opening in the middle. Since I moved here 12 yrs ago, its always been a pain, but I clean in out, WD40 it, and it works for awhile until it doesn't....which is about 3 X a yr. Except for this year its been happening more frequently and won't shut completely because the doors don't meet up properly. I'm usually pretty handy, but I'm afraid the door might have to be taken off and put back on again....I don't think your kit could help. So Joe if you'll come over here and fix my door, in exchange I'll give you a really great hair cut! lol :)

    Have you tried adjusting the rollers? Maybe the door is dragging a little causing it to be hard to move and not aligning properly. You should be able to install the "Kit" without having to remove the door. I'd gladly look at pictures if you would like to send them to me at sales@slide-ezzz.com to see if I can help there. Or you can always call me at 800-284-7136 if you would like to discuss it. Most times, a 2 minute phone call beats sending 50 e-mails back and forth. And, yea......I know I'm a hairy sucker. I gotta get the crap cut every 4 weeks. So I might have to take you up on that hair cut....lol.....

    Joe, you're a genius! I had at first thought about adjusting the rollers, but because there were no plugs on the outside, didn't know how to get to them....but tah-dahhh, after looking around found some small holes on the inside end and with a flash light found those rusty ole screws! So happy that the door closes and even locks properly. So because you're also so nice to answer me, when I am able might try this kit. Also glad you didn't get upset about the hair cut remark. Ya know, some people has no sense of humor & I only made it because that's just how cute I think you are in this video.
