DIY Overland Truck Camper Part 14 bench

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

This is just the frame for the bench system. While it looks like the washroom is build in. It will just be an emergency washroom while on the move. I will have a bathroom tent outside to house the toilet when on location. While the first way of raising the bench was convenient. The second method gives it an easy wall. I may try to insert a door built into that area also for easy access.
I am deciding how I want to set it up. the actual space underneath. While I have a special plan for one end. The rest will be storage for dry goods, other equipment. I am thinking about using a detachable netting just to keep things sort of in place to start off with. I don't have a lot of room down the middle to move around in. So I can't make any large doors. And anything that sticks out will just take more room. I will play with some options over time. But at the price of 2x2's, I may just rebuild a new version down the road to try different things inside.
EDIT:
I now have a website that you can visit to see all the items I've used in this build. while each individual email will have links to some of the products that I use in this build. This website will me a more complete collection. Thank you again for watching.

I would do a double or triple lock on that roof-hatch to make sure no one gets a broken neck, good job man*

Thank you. And I have a few things to do to the roof before it is truly safe.

Love it. I’m thinking about putting my plants together but actually making a bottom in it so it can. easily be removed from the truck

Nice. And yeah. I wanted a bottom. But wanted to get the most room out of it that I could. And all the pieces inside come out pretty easily when I want the space inside as a truck. My plans after it's all done will be to create some sort of system I can back up into and have it lift off the truck when needed.

I like it alot. Make sure to child proof some of the things in there, like the roof. That little latch and the 2 screw holding the bolt, is really all thats holding it. I would worry about the wind one day making it into a sail. Otherwise, great job and cool project.

Agreed. This is why I tested it a lot. And would never dream of having my kids up there for camping until it was perfectly safe. Thank you for the concern.

I would have used this same size wood to build the pop up in such a way that it can support the same amount of weight but weigh less. Other wise great craftsmanship, maybe your first aluminum project could be a roof swap ? Like a hybrid lol

Yeah. My original plan was to have a frame with holes to place the solar panels so they would be part of the roof and ad up to less weight. But it took me over two months to get my panels. But yeah. Making a lighter roof to place on-top would solve a few of my issues. It would be an interesting introduction into my aluminum welding. Considering right now I have zero experience. But would be worth a shot.

@@RecceCampers if you get a welder that has the aluminum spool gun as an option that would be a good way to go. I'm a welder and have been for 20+ years now and think that would be the easiest way to get started.

Thank you. And you are 100% right about that. I look forward to this camper getting me out there instead of in here.

What are the measurements of the studs and plywood you used? And what wood did you go with? Very nice I want to replicate that for my truck

Honestly, I could not tell you now. I want to make a 2.0 version and I plan to use different material for it. Just to make it lighter and more weather resistant.

    Any plans to add windows?

So I thought long about that. And while I may or may not have some in the canvas. I didn't see it nessecary for the body itself. The way I have it now is completly dark inside. So I could use it as a stealth camper if I didn't pop the top and no light would bleed through. I am building a wall at the back and may add on in the door. But if I really want I can open the access panel to the truck and that would be somewhat like a window.

How are you planning to do your canvas? I’m actually building one now as well except out of aluminum. Your assistant is way better than mine though

Hahaha. Thank you. I will pass on the word. And honestly not a hundred percent sure yet. But some marine grade buttons and velcro are my first thought. And I did build a Grove to have the canvas fold over so the water goes out and not in the camper. I am still debating on the amount of pop ups I'll be using. It won't be long though. I'm working on the loft bed and the rear wall this weekend. And the canvas is pretty much next in line.

    Insulation?

  • @RecceCampers

So my plan is to hold off a while on the insulation. I won't be finishing the walls this year. I want to use it a bit and make sure I don't need to access anywhere that would be insulated. Easier to do with bare walls. Maybe sometime in November if I'm satisfied with the layout. Then I'll start to finish the camper with insulation and better looking walls.
