Ultimate Stealth Camper Van Tour | Nissan NV200 Self-Converted Build Walkthrough

The Stories From a Van Online Store 👕
storiesfromavan.com
Hello! My name is Evan and this is my tour of the stealth camper that I converted with the help of my dad. I lived out of this van for a whole year in San Francisco and currently live in Santa Cruz. My dad is a carpenter and with his help, I was able to create the cabinets which is the foundation of the conversion. I designed and built the entire plumbing and electrical system. This van is completely off-grid with a fully self-sustaining electrical system and a complete plumbing system. Despite how small the Nissan NV200 is, I was able to have a decent amount of storage space, due to the fact that I sacrificed the entire floor space.

You’ve hit the bulls eye. Stealth camping is the ultimate stress free way to go. For most van campers half of the stress is finding a place to park legally. What’s also impressive is that even if someone peered into the interior of the van they still wouldn’t be able to tell that it’s a camper because your sink and the cabinets are folded away or hidden. Wow, For the size of the van which looks like about the size of a mini van, you did an amazing job of utilizing every space to make everything work. The best part is the fact that you can park anywhere legally and no one would know you are camping. Hands down you have the best, most efficient and practical build I’ve seen so far.

The skill it takes to build this and the discipline to live in it and keep it so tidy. Bravo! I think a real strength to your plan is that it looks too small from the outside to be housing overnight ‘campers’ and so has massive potential to blend in better than more obvious vehicles when parked up on a regular suburban street. Incredible attention to detail and so well thought through! Great work.

I have the same concept in my two-door 4x4 Jeep Wrangler. It is so unassuming with tinted windows and at night when I put my covers up, people cannot even see the light from within. I'm 6'2 and I barely fit from head to toe, but it seems to work for me and I blend in quite well wherever I go.

Very nice set up! I have been living full time in may 25 foot class A motor home with my little dog Tinkerbell now for over 3 years. I beat Kidney cancer at 57 years old and decided to live really live so I sold everything or gave it away and bought Xena my 1994 winnebago warrior. I have been traveling around the western states filming what I see. Like places I camped for free and I do explore abandoned buildings plus some creepy stuff which is my favorite! I am amazed with your build. I could never live that tiny but im glad you shared it with everyone to show it is possible. Im now 60 years old and I love living on the road so many things I would never have seen if I still lived in my home. I took the chance to live my last years fully im very glad I did! Thank you for sharing!😁

This man min-maxed the hell out of the space he had to work with. Incredible set up and everything seems so well-thought out. I personally would have sprung for a larger van even if it took a little extra time to save up for and isn't quite as inconspicuous. But, overall, this is maybe the best set-up I've seen for one of these stealth camp builds.

You must be an engineer. Your design is brilliant for the space you have to work with. The fact that you have both a toilet and shower in a van this size is a first for a minivan. The electrical setup is very well done. With the amount of power you have, you could easily convert your Igloo to a 12 volt freezer/fridge. No more ice, more room for food. The perfect stealth camper.

I was going to make a comment about him not using a 12 chest mini compressor freezer fridge. I love the square 12v hotplate that has a matching glass Tupperware with lid and insulating bag to hold it in. That is brilliant and compact. It traps most of the heat in the bag. It occurred to me this is something that could be put into a backpack and used when at a library or gym to warm up food or liquids as well (I am thinking of some kind of wide-mouth thermos with heating coils to warm the liquid inside with 12v DC power source. As a matter of fact.. if the thermos is big enough inside. it could double as a food cooker like making stews or soups as well as anything else a person would cook in a pot over a stove or in a stove? and the thermal insulation would have insulation to hold the heat inside. The lid could be built with some kind of pressure release valve to keep it from building up to much pressure? this kind of coil heating thermos might be working about with a solar panel for people hiking and camping in the wilderness as well?

This may be the most compact, functional van I have ever seen. The automakers should get in touch with Evan and hire him on a consulting basis to design more of these vans. Another reason why this stealth setup works so well is that Evan is a highly disciplined person who has his act together. This wouldn't work for an undisciplined, lazy person because there are a lot of moving parts necessary to make this setup work and keep it going.
