DIY Overland Truck Camper Part 12 (Cost and Weight)

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

Hey everyone. Here is the information on the cost and weight of the camper shell itself. I am in the process of creating a website for information on the items I will be using for this camper. And if they are worth trying or if they should be left alone.
I would like to thank everyone who has sent positive feedback and thrown ideas at me for this build. Every little bit helps. At the time of posting this video I have accumulated 99 subscribers and over 17 thousand views. I honestly just did this to share it with family and friends back home. But its been a great little ride and I will continue to keep people posted as the time goes on.
Now that the shell is complete. The rest is pretty much winging it. And it will constantly change as the time goes. I have one more video of the kitchen tomorrow, and then one for seating, and one for the loft bed (Still waiting for what I will do with the roof so not sure if a video will follow that). After that I will just be updating the changes that I make with some short videos. So I will always accept suggestions from others to help make this a more then usable camper. I would like to get all the bugs out before purchasing my next truck and building the new version of this camper.
EDIT:
I now have a website that you can visit to see all the items I've used in this build. while each individual email will have links to some of the products that I use in this build. This website will me a more complete collection. Thank you again for watching.

    That's a lot of work. I myself am to lazy, so I bought a 1997 Sun Lite pop up truck camper. Has AC, 3 burner stove, sink, 22 gallon fresh water tank. Toilet, and black water tank, outside shower , 2 beds, one is the dinette. I installed solar, so it is self contained. Total cost, $2835. Weight wet, 1,815.

    $1200.00 for the LInex? I just spit my coffee out. That's insane for that small amount of spray.

    I get it. It's not cheap. But it's also not a crazy amount due to the fact that they color matched. And getting a truck bed done professionally isn't that much different. I could have saved a fortune doing this myself. But until I get my new home this summer, I have nowhere to do this sort of work. PS. Hopefully your keyboard isn't ruined from all the coffee. Lol.

    It turn out nice. But with all that labor, time and the cost of material , I would of just bought a real nice used one off of craigslist or maybe even new for $1700. Do you have any ideal what the weight is on it?

    Hey the line x looks great , but at that cost , did you ever consider just using truck bed liner !? You could have got a kit for $99 at canadian tire and just brushed / rolled it on yourself . I’ve used the ez liner brand in the spray can to do my truck rims , grille , inside the bottom of my boat , boat anchors , the stuff really holds up and is super durable , and at 1/12th the cost of the line x !

    Nice. Yeah. It wasn't cheap. But they had me sold at the finished product. And only time will tell if it was worth it. The stuff at Canadian Tire got some mixed reviews. And some bad images of how it sticks to wood. I would love to try it out myself. I might spray my pull out kitchen with it just for fun. Thanks for the idea.

    looks really good. glad I stumbled across your videos. I'm been thinking about a camper build myself. One thing I was wondering: did you consider ripping down the 2x4 material to save some weight? I'm guessing it would still be strong enough?

  • @RecceCampers

    @RecceCampers

    3 жыл бұрын

    I started with 2x4 for strength. Being my first build for a camper I didn't want to take chances. I searched online to see if anyone else has done this with wood. And every time I found someone they never finished the camper. So I stuck with 2x4s. After finishing the frame and doing some work on the roof I realized how strong it was. My guess is that I could do it completely with 2x2s and it would still be plenty strong. I don't plan on taking anything out for weight purposes since this is more of a prototype that I plan to rebuild later. But yes. I think what I did is overkill and would not us the same materials next time. And there will be a next time for sure on the next truck.

    Hey man, thanks for the cost breakdown as promised. not as costly as I was anticipating. what a Great turn out! Quick question. I know you didn't include labor cost because it's obviously DIY. But... If you were to build this exact setup for someone else. with all the work and effort you put in, making this all by yourself. besides line x of course. How much would you charge to build something very similar all over again for someone else willing to pay you? I am NOT saying I want you to build me one. I'm just always curious about how people measure dollars to their hard work. If you wanna add the labor from your beautiful kids, that cool too lol. cheers

  • @RecceCampers

    @RecceCampers

    Not a problem. My next video should have a link to a website I am creating that shows the price of everything I'm using for this build. The cost was just for shell itself. But honestly. I don't think I'd charge a ton. The shell only took me around a day to build. Being as I am not a professional by any means. I could see charging a few hundred bucks above the cost of material for the days work. That's more or less to cover the cost of equipment. And just to ensure I'm not losing money doing the job. As per labour from my kids. I don't even think I can afford that part. Lol
