Disney “canon” is whatever they think will increase their esg scores. The truth is that only the creators of IP’s should be allowed to say what is canon but it’s not the world we live in

Yes, storytelling has been sacrificed for the message. The intent of new projects isn’t fans’ enjoyment or merchandise sales and so the IP is lost in the hands of its current managers. Thank you for watching.

My wife feels the same way, she also thinks it’s rediculous that you have to watch each show to understand the other shows or movies instead of just making them all stand alone adventures in the universe. Same with marvel and heck even Star Trek on paramount is becoming close to the same (as much as I grew up loving both franchises)

Granted, I know hes speaking so like it might not meant to be in this way. But it just felt like that story of how we got to the disney canon was just a series of dumb shit which proves why the now legends is important. A place where less stringent to canon stories are explored is nice as a guidepost to what could be happening in fans favorite universe. Like I think removing legends was not dumb because they are sacred, but because they are fan favorite stories that are just poofed out of existence, deemed irrelevant, right as they come in. Before they have done anythign to prove that they can provide anything of equivalent value as to what was lost. Just comes off as high and mighty, and honestly idiotic considering whats happened.

Yes, the announcement of Legends was an arrogant move without any history of quality Star Wars to Disney’s credit. For fans, it showed disregard, which has only worsened over time. Thank you for your comment.

why does every single movie/show/game/book/comic have to involve this tiny cast of interconnected characters? there's a massive universe with trillions of people, so why do we have to just keep hearing about more of the same people from the same exact time? it would be far easier to create canon things if they only had to worry about it making sense in the universe, and not in the timeline for each character

I boil it down to THREE steps on how to keep Star Wars integrity, because every masterpiece of a story is always a simple one, magnificently told: 1. Star Wars should ALWAYS be written from the point of view of the past. It’s not technically futuristic, it’s historic-A long time ago in a galaxy far, far away… Which is why modern woke inserts always fail. 2. Musical score. The music must help guide and tell the story as much as the plot and dialogue; and not rehash an older score to force fit it just to create synthetic nostalgia. 3. Going back to a simple story magnificently told-dialogue should outweigh the special effects. Can you quote any lines from the Disney Star Wars sequels? But we all have favorite quotes from any movie that was genuinely entertaining. Except Disney Star Wars sequels. And there you have it, easy as 1,2,3. At least in my humble opinion 😊

I fully support your humble opinion. The music shouldn’t be underestimated. John Williams’ scores were visceral and integral. I would swap “simple” for “straightforward” to describe the stories. Clear-cut. Precise. Thank you for your comment!

I am doing this essay as attempt at good faith... Prior to the (cringe) Sequels, there was always this idea that Star Wars is supposed to be this huge Sandbox Universe of sorts, that kids and adults could have fun with. Identical to how WH40K, where almost anything can happen within the limits and confines of the cosmology itself, whilst still seemingly being capable of linking into the established canon. Almost as if everything could be part of an established and Continuously Expanding Galaxy/ Universe. Stories that in the forms of Tall Tales or in exaggerated Retellings of events That May have happened Long Long Ago In A Galaxy Far Far Away. Which could be considered at the very least Plausible, but not truly canon or even fictitious to the SWU. But merely acknowledged in a sense such as it is a piece of history. We can think of what i'm saying as being similar to how the Trojan War is fictionalized. For Instance, Starkiller can be canon and tweaked to have limits, whilst respecting his character, and NOT specifically placing focus on exaggerated feats of power and gameplay gimmicks as his depiction portrays. Nothing truly needs to be canon but it could be accepted as A Possibility. For example: perhaps many of the stories we observe or read about, are akin to people playing a game of telephone? The longer a story goes on the more exaggerated or absurd it becomes perhaps as to be unbelievable. When another story detailing the actions of the same character in another situation, tells contradictory feats or skills being tested... On the Starkiller instance... It could be that Secret Imperial Archives were opened and the data was fragmented so the archivists have to piece Starkiller's/ Galen Marek's story together? Leaving things up to interpretation and having that be the rule for authors to stay consistent with could be one way forward. Using Kessel Run as a narrative example: DID Han Solo complete the Kessel Run in 12 Parsecs (as a measure of distance) OR did he find A Route that was 12 Parsecs distance THUS shortening the Kessel Run's originally understood dimensions? Careful Word Choice is important... Making the stories more or less possible regardless of the impossibility - as more or less : the SWU itself is capable of both. In The CW 2003 series we see Jedi being OP to the Nth degree BUT in the CW 2008 series we see Jedi capabilities as being more subdued. My point being... Things are better kept ambiguous as a tall tale, for the rationale of appealing to the imagination. It can both be completely OP absurd fun but also more down to earth and relate to the real world. What matters is presentation and cohesiveness, whilst considering conscientiously, the limitations within the confines of SWU. Whilst also challenging those limits and respecting them before pushing waaaay too far.

I like your video but I heavily disagree on the take on the EU. The EU was undoubtably canon in GL SW. George spoke with them, as well as referenced to go read the EU to understand where Anakin got his scar. George even brought EU characters to the screen. Quinlan Vos, Ki Adi Mundi, Aayla Secura. And the “Parallel universe” argument has been debunked by Leeland Chee. They’re in tandem and don’t interfere with each other. If the EU wasn’t canon why did Disney HAVE to decanonize it, they didn’t just “slap on another label”.

George sold Star Wars for around $ 4 billion. $ 4 billion should be the new 30 pieces of silver from now on. He gave into the influence of Mammon

This Sean guy is pretty insufferable and condescending, despite getting some things right. It's not even the Legends label or decanonization that are an issue, it's the fact that it was completely discontinued, despite many parts of it being lucrative, such as in form of videogames. And even then, he's making it out to be way more complicated than it actually was. And the whole "if it's not on TV, it's not part of Canon" bs isn't true : Lucas liked Shadows of the Empire, so he inserted the Outrider in the Special Edition. He liked Aayla Secura from the Republic comics, so he featured her in the Prequels. That said, he exposed gentrification (or normification) of the franchise pretty well, like nerfing lightsabers, or how horrible Disney's comunication was.

I disagree. Star Wars (the OT) was an amalgamation of Lucsas, VXF artists, John Williams, editors and cinematographers. It was not Lucas alone. If you want to see Star Wars where Lucas is on complete control, and all the people who would argue with him are gone; watch the prequels.

people so badly want a strict canon. yet star wars was written to seem like it was a chronicle in universe. people dont agree in real life about shit that happened 80 years ago. what the fuck makes you think they would in a universe where a WHOLE GALAXY is open. different writers will say different things. some will say ventress died in the clone wars, others will say she live on into the days of the empire. some will say ahsoka had blue lightsabers others will say she had green. some will say lightsabers are incredibly deadly over powered god weapons others will doubt that claim entirely. it is ok to have contradictions. just go with the flow youll be much happier that way.

Believe it or not, objective reality and history are a thing, and people who disagree are called revisionists or conspiracy theorists for a reason. When you dgaf about consistency and just randomly force things to happen, or bring dead people out of nowhere, there's this strange thing that's going to happen : people will ask what the hell is going on and why ?! Why should I be invested when nothing makes sense anymore ? Shocking, I know !!! "it is ok to have contradictions. just go with the flow youll be much happier that way." TL;DR : Don't ask questions, just consume product then get excited for the next product. How embarassing.

Yes, people want consistency and not see things just randomly happen without regard to internal consistency or logic. Ever wondered why people hated seeing Palpatine back in Ep.9 ? There's the reason. And yes, factual history and reality are a thing, that's why people who disagree with it are called conspiracy theorists. It's not okay to have contraddictions, or else you get garbage products. There's a thing called having standards, and you have none.
