I was lucky enough to beta test this game. Two light cycle bugs I remember, at first you could summon the light cycle anywhere in the level. It was just a check that was missing but it was a great way to cause a little mayhem. You were of course only supposed to do that in the arena, and when you did, you ended up upside down playing under the map. A super rare bug was the bit would lose it's trail, making it hard to find. That was a fun time, and they treated us very well. The only sad thing was we didn't get our names in the credits. Thanks for bringing back these memories!

other other fun fact: the character of tron was originally a hand drawn animation that was used as a demo that then got sold to several radio stations, it featured a neon guy throwing then smashing two disks of light toghether to create the word "tron" infront of it between its hands. the radio station ads would feature the exact same animation with the word replaced with their radio station name/ title / whatever thing in place of the word "tron"

The graphics of TRON 2.0 were state of the art at the time as well, its effects looked really impressive and very much in the style of TRON. The soundtrack is fantastic as well, modern, but it had more in common with the original music than the (also great) Legacy soundtrack. Also the soundtrack dynamically changes according to what is happening in the game.

I thoroughly enjoyed Tron 2.0 . The music was great, the feel was right, the disc upgrades were a neat addition, and if you were slick enough there are lots of secrets to be found and hidden. You can actually parkour to places that are a lot more polished but definitely umused/unfinished areas. Didn't even have to use cheats, you can literally just work your way around to side corners that literally have no reason for being there. entire rooms and areas that are beautiful, and definitely thought out, yet unused.

I play Tron 2.0 frequently (thanks to the dedicated fans who still write patches for modern systems) because the story is fun and feels like a organic evolution. The world and soundtrack are still holding up today. I was really bummed when Tron Legacy never even mentioned the events and that the character of Jet Bradley was absent. Tron is an underused IP with endless possibilities, but the idiots at Disney will ride Star Wars, Indiana Jones and the others beyond death before they will recognize what treasure they have in the basement. 😢

Yup., Tron 2.0 is STILL one of my favorite games ever. Because it perfectly acts as a sequel while creating something original and also continuing to tell the story of the original '82 Tron movie. EVERYTHING about the game was amazing. The immersion, the design and also the Sounds and Music. I just didn't like that the Lightcycle races were mandatory but the Killer App fan-patch made it skippable at least. I just love the glowing neons of the digital world of TRON. And when the game came was announced back then i was SOOOO looking forward to finally dive into the Grid. I remember i had to sadly turn down a lot of the effects on my old gaming PC back then as the glow was massively sucking performance :P THIS game still has a BIG place in my heart. Just as Monolith Productions with their amazing games.

F-Con's plan for using human-digitization was a far better back plot than anything in Tron Legacy. Tron 2.0 also had a much better use of computer puns for characters and environments. Tron Legacy barely felt like it was an anthropomorphic computer world, and seemed more like an alt-Earth. The worst part of Legacy was trying to believe that an emergent AI or more than one could properly execute on an old pizzabox Sparc 4 from the 90's.

The main thing I appreciate is that quite a few fans have brainstormed ways to force 2.0 back into being canon without completely discrediting Legacy. They're surprisingly not as mutually exclusive as you'd think! For example, Tron himself is missing from 2.0... because he was transferred to Flynn's Grid (and became Rinzler). There's also a major plot point that it took 20 years to recreate digitizing tech (since the only reason it worked was the MCP was correcting the incoming data, a role Ma3a was designed to replace), yet Flynn was able to hop in and out just fine on his own private Grid in the meantime... because he had already been digitized once and "his pattern was cached", so until the correction algorithms were created, no one else _could_ safely be digitized besides him, which is why he never tried to bring anyone else with him (though this does make one wonder how said algorithms got transferred to Kevin's Grid, a fully isolated system, in time for Sam to be digitized... maybe the existence of the Isos caused it to work even after their near-extinction?). It does require a few creative liberties with the timeline, but it's fully possible to have 1.0, 2.0, and Legacy be a coherent _trilogy_ of stories, as they always should have been 👍

TRON 2.0 is indeed a fine game. I gave it to my nephew for Christmas a couple years back and he absolutely loved it. The story is far, far better and more interesting than the story of TRON: Legacy. It's depressing to think that all the action of TRON: Legacy happens in a single minicomputer the size of a desk. In TRON 2.0, computer networks are a thing, and you travel from computer to computer. Competing corporations have figured out that ENCOM found a way to send people into computers, and are trying to re-create it, but their inferior technology has copying errors that turn people into mutant monsters! I love it! Even better, governments found out, and have successfully duplicated the technology, so they can send spies _into_ the computers to find secret data. And there's at least one level where government spies are in the computer with you and want to silence you. Best of all, my favorite level: someone in the real world knows you are in the computer and wants to kill you, so they initiate a disk format operation. In the TRON world, this is shown as a whirling wall of destruction that is sweeping across the level. If you touch this wall, you die, and it is making the level smaller and smaller. You have to fight your way to a network port and leave that computer before the disk format completes. Thematically perfect for a TRON-based first person shooter game. It's true that as an FPS it doesn't transcend the FPS genre. But it's a perfectly good FPS and the story is great. I really wish that TRON: Legacy had used the story from TRON 2.0.

There’s another comment saying that Tron Legacy was more connected to the Flynn Family, while Tron 2.0. Is connected to Alan. I prefer Tron Legacy, as that film did exactly what Tron 2.0. Did, but better. Not that Tron 2.0. Is bad, but it was a step in the right direction for what Disney would do to the franchise. In my opinion, Tron 2.0. Could walk, so that Tron Legacy could run.

Ahh, I remember this one. I was worried when I switched to Win7, but it worked just fine on it. Best thing I can say about Tron 2.0 is that it perfectly emulated the feel of the original movie, only better. Only thing that bugged me about the game is that if you "fell" more than a meter (no seriously, about a meter in-game) you derezzed instantly. No matter how many levels you had gained (or "build levels" I think they were called.) Anyway, other than that gripe, the game was a joy to play.

The story is based on Tron 2.0, as well as the new original outfits for the characters, even the super light cycle is featured. They could pull off in human moves and reaction times, but also had a habit of boxing themselves into their own light trails if given enough time. I'm pretty sure the light cycles were designed for multiplayer, and Disney forced them to shoehorn light cycle levels into the single player campaign.

I have always had a soft spot for live action Disney-branded properties that are geared toward older kids and/or adults. Of course Tron. But there are a lot of these. Pirates Of The Caribbean is one more modern example. Jungle Cruise is another one. It might not be as good but it definitely is part of that legacy. No pun intended. Other examples include The Rocketeer, The Black Hole, Hocus Pocus, Return To Oz, Bedknobs And Broomsticks, and The Watcher In The Woods. It's kind of hard to define exactly what does and does not qualify but you know it when you see it

The only thing I remember from the original TRON movie is *EVERYTHING!* One of my all-time favorites. I'm all about sci-fi ever since Star Wars in 77 when I was 4 years old. TRON & The Black Hole are the only things I like from Disney.

it really makes me sad that Tron's character specifically didn't get any screen time or development. Bruce Boxleitner put a lot of heart into the character in Tron Uprising and I sincerely hope he finally gets the opportunity to do that in Ares.. because I mean, the name of the franchise after all is Tron XD

Got this when it first came out and loved it. Had to upgrade my video card as I was still using a VooDoo 5 5500 and it didn't support hardware T&L so I ended up getting my first nVidia card. You can still buy this game which I did a little while back. I forget which platform I bought it through but it was cheap so I couldn't resist, lol.

Imagine one day... a virtual reality tron game. Parts of the game are "in the real world " where you are trying to break in to the lab that has equipment to zap you into the computer universe... and then the 2nd world is the actual virtual computer world. And events in the "real world" have an impact on your adventures in the virtual world (i.e. one real world mission is to destroy a lab, that has some servers, but in the virtual world that area is now missing)

Tron Legacy does canonically happen after Tron 2.0, has the same voice actors, same writers, same composer too, effectively making it a sequel, despite being a video game; While Legacy (That is why Legacy isn't called Tron 2 and Tron 2.0 is Tron 2, Legacy is Tron 3 - Legacy gives us a reason Flynn wasn't there.) follows Flynn, 2.0 followed Alan. 2.0 came out during the halcyon days of Disney games when gems such as Kingdom Hearts came out. All of the Disney video games of that time period were absolutely awesome, most being children's games, didn't take away from the fact they were all good. And I'll tell you why, because Disney had no involvement other than carefully choosing who made them, they handed out their licences to game developers who are either massive fans or well known for crafting games of that genre. Tron Legacy was going to be tied to this game originally, but Disney corporate politics got in the way (I mean they had a new CEO take over, the current one) and the movie was put on hold for years till eventually those who ended up being put in charge of making it were not even aware the game existed and when they found out about it, wrote it off as unimportant and that it wouldn't be a good idea to base the movie around a game they think most of the audiences of the movie have never played and never will, despite the script being originally written to be a sequel to this game. Also you're right about the weapons, apparently those were all just tacked on to appease to FPS gamers so that the game wouldn't feel like just "discs". When it is very obvious the devs put all their love and attention into making sure the disc worked well, bit like the lightsaber in Jedi Knight 2.

I saw TRON in movies and played the arcade game every time I went to the movie theatre. When TRON 2.0 came out, I bought it and immediately played through the story twice. When the movie was announced, I was hoping for a similar story with the character racing against the defrag when trapped in a server. When Legacy came out, I was disappointed by the story, but the visuals and music were astounding!

TRON: Legacy never made sense when Flynn says "He wondered what the grid would look like, and one day, I got in" - Surly he would remember the events from the first TRON? 😕

TRON 2.0 is one of a number of games that I feel could do with a remaster/remake in UE5. It'd be freaking ridiculous on how good it could look, balancing how 'simple' it looks with all the effects that could be done. It was fun to play, and the mechanics were good. Could use a few more weapons and 'hacking' mechanics.
