Sounds like you have done some interesting historical digging. But I just have to say in regards to Ariel, I don't think her wedding dress was based on any historical time period. Those puffed sleeves and sweet- heart neck line are straight out of the late 1980's- early 90's, which is when the film was made. They clearly just went with what was in fashion at the time.

The Disney version of The Little Mermaid most likely takes place near Greece since Triton is a Greek god. The book version doesn't name her father. It didn't name her either. She's just known as "The Little Mermaid". The book also mentions the 5th daughter seeing icebergs when she was allowed to go to the surface. So the book version is most likely located near Denmark.

Would really love historically accurate movies of these characters with the same narrative combined with soft fantasy/magic elements and in its native language. Soft fantasy/magic: Is a bit more grounded- Like a wave of a hand closes a door or the snap of a finger lights a candle from across the room. While hard magic is Harry Potter style magic. The little Mermaid story suggests the prince was from the Mediterranean because when she awoke on the beach after being human- she witnessed sky blue waters, white sand beach, palm trees with snow capped mountains far off.

The stepmother in Cinderella wore the pompadour hairstyle and leg-o-mutton sleeves of the 1890s, while the king reminds me of the Austrian emperor Franz Josef.

Funny thing about Cinderella is that she didn't want to go to the ball so she could meet the prince, all she really wanted was a Day Off! ☺️

When I was a child I wanted to look like Cinderella when I grew up. She represented femininity and beauty.

Pretty sure her design had a lot of Grace Kelly in there, who is still considered to be one of the most beautiful and feminine women ever so you’re right.

05:20 Actually, if one watched 'The Little Mermaid' tv show, it is stated out loud Ariel comes from the Atlantic Ocean, meaning either Denmark or England would be more appropriate if not for that conflicting flora in the background. That and the fact Eric, Max and Melody don't really sound like Italian names, especially Max and Melody.

Wrong, it's in Italy. The directors even stated that their main inspiration for Eric's Kingdom was a Mediterranean culture.

This was great, one thing I notice is all the animated princesses appear to have invisible noses, I do princess cosplay for kids parties and when I see the photos..its always..ugh!!.. my nose..😅 Thanks for the video.

It's actually pretty funny seeing them recreated in real life since the Golden Age era of Disney used rotoscoping technique.

Beauty and the Beast. You can also guess, it's France because Lemur actually says "This is France" during his song "Be Our Guest." Also, when I think of those women in other countries and what they saw as high fashion in the 1800's - I get a mental image of American Pioneer women pointing and laughing at them.

Further proof that Disney knows little to nothing about fashion for specific periods of time. They're getting better, but even Mulan was a giant mish-mash of many different centuries.

Maybe that's part of the magic they create, it's escapism, does it have to be accurate? I don't think the children are worried about those kind of details ;)

Why are you expecting cartoons to be accurate? That’s not why they’re made. They’re fantasy and nothing more. Want accuracy, go watch a historical documentary.
