Yes, he had phimosis. And that's also true that he wasn't very interested with sex (it's very very unusual for a French king) , certainly because he had been educated this way, because Louis XV had so many lovers who were a danger for the Crown.

I don’t know why, but I’ve always felt so sorry for her. She didn’t deserve anything that happened to her. That poor girl, all alone in a foreign country, everyone lying to and judging her, intentionally giving her bad advice, then everything gets blamed on her. She is accused of incest and her children were thrown to the streets, only to have her head chopped off. How fucking terrible.

Yeah I feel the same. Watched some documentary's that really changed my preconceptions about her. Sure she wasn't perfect but she had a good heart and did alot of good despite being lavish at times. All in all a good and Nobel Queen more importantly a good person I'd think.

She looked so much older than her years in her final portraits, she must have been under so much stress. I don't condone the excessive spending whilst the French people were starving, but I don't think it's fair to pin all of France's financial difficulties on her, she was merely a scapegoat. Also her being constantly judged at court would have made her want to spend even more money on stuff to cheer herself up, and most of us can relate to that!

Fr that part of the revolution always annoys me when reading. So many nobles were scum but for some reason they used her especially as a punching bag. Idk if this is true or not, but I read that her last words were an apology to the executioner for stepping on his foot. maybe she was more ignorant of the lower classes suffering than downright evil. Either way we’ll never know

Great video! She was no doubt beautiful; however, one physical attribute that is conspicuously absent in her oil portraits (probably due to the limitations of the genre) was her moderate Habsburg lip. This notorious trait was shared by both Spanish and Austrian factions of the Habsburg dynasty; which, unfortunately, gave observers the superficial impression that she possessed a haughty demeanour (but contrary to widespread anti-monarchist propaganda, she actually had a warm personality, even ebullient according to contemporary accounts within the court). Nevertheless, the slight forward jut in her lower jaw that apparently gave her an air of imperial hauteur was a facial phenotype more accurately rendered and evident in her marble busts. One can also see evidence of this recessive Habsburg trait in Jacques-Louis David’s live sketch of her being carted to the guillotine.

Yes you can see evidence of it in some portraits, however, artists paint people in a better image than in reality, like photoshop.

NOT ALL Habsburgs had it. Some didn't and were actually handsome or beautiful as Marie Antonia. Case in point was Philip "the Fair" or "Le Beau" (Fair looking) between his very Habsburg looking son, the emperor Karl V and his father, Kaiser Max who had a larger lower jaw and lip overbiting the upper one even more exaggeratedly, altogether with larger falcon beak nose. You have to remember that these people married with many other princely Dynasties without such peculiar physiognomies and that it was recessive, only when inbreeding within 2 degrees will show strongly

@samantha ssmith Her father was from the House of Lorraine (Empress Maria-Theresa being the last direct Habsburg monarch). While the main legitimate male line of the Austrian Habsburg ended with Charles IV, this does not preclude the inheritance of recessive genotypic (made even more dominant though the Habsburg family’s long tradition of marrying within the bloodline) traits passed through via mitochondrial DNA from the maternal line. Admittedly, while she seems to have been spared the more pronounced iterations of the Habsburg jaw, a modest protrusion is still apparent in her facial structure concerning the lower mandibular and orbicularis oris, lending her somewhat of a perpetual pout or air of superiority. This phenotypic heritage were consistent with both contemporary busts and first hand biographical accounts of the Queen’s appearance.

Thanks for telling their story so clearly. I read a book that was based on her weekly letters to her mother, which painted a very different picture from the “Let them eat cake” idiot, she is usually portrayed as. As you point out, she and Louis were simple people and totally unsuited to being leaders of any kind. From your renditions, she was very beautiful, which often attracts jealousy, criticism and character assassination. It was good to hear that they were philanthropists. I’ve never heard that before. It’s a pity that those they helped, didn’t protect them. It’s a tragic story, all round.

Ive heard that she didnt even spend that much compared to others in the court. Its really sad how her image has been twisted when really she wasn't that bad of a person

Your description pf her personality reminds me alot my Mom. She loved partying when she was younger, still loves to spend even today, but is the sweetest and most philanthropic person ever. She volunteers, encouraged me to volunteer, and even works as nurse.

It sounds to me that a lot of Royals downfall was having people who constantly lied to them about what was going on with the people. I absolutely love everything about your videos and with technology I'm excited to see what you'll be doing in the future. You're already way ahead of your time. I think teachers should use your skills to teach in classes.

So interesting! While I can't condone her insensitive decision making skills, it really does put in in perspective when you remember that she was still a child when she got married, moved to a new place, and was basically told "you two have fun bearing children and running a country! Bye now!" Like, yes, her and Henry had exponentially more resources and opportunities than their starving public, but it's a bit harder to villainize two teenagers who grew up not knowing any other way of life.

I think Marie was DOOMED to die the moment she came from Austria, there really was NO salvageable way to save that situation imo. The French Revolution war was inevitable - I think it was going to happen either way, whether anybody liked it or not.

When it says 'young to old' She sadly didnt get the privelege of living to old age, she was only in her late 30s when she died, still young. Although the stress she had been under undoubabtly made her appear older in portraits.

She was a very lovely Queen. It's sad how she had to go :(

It's interesting to imagine what they really looked like, because the artists of that era painted in a very two dimentional fashion. Thank you for your talent.

You also forgot to mention that Marie and Louis wanted to introduce vegetables to the common folks as great alternative to bread and meat, which were getting ridiculously expensive at that time. Unfortunately, people still viewed and thought of vegetables as food given to pigs and other livestock and too poisonous for human consumption... The king even had dishes prepared using vegetables to try to convince people of the alternative so they wouldn't starve. If anything the people and especially the nobles, were stupid. 😡 King Louis did everything he could with the limited powers he had (the ones doing everything were the nobles) to try to help his country, but the nobles didn't want to make the changes and insisted on being in power even though Louis wanted to appease his people and even would've agreed to being a citizen king... still rule the country but as a figurehead of sorts (think of it as early form of prime minister or president, but longer terms). We can point the blame to nobles who grew bold and accustom to having too much power and fun on the backs of the royal family and the people of France at that time.

@@ardentlyconfused3503 Actually the muslin dresses were inspired by colonialist wives who lived in climates too hot to wear silk, and the cotton used to make it was imported from India I believe And as silk was manufactured in France or at least it was considered their trade, people were upset with her for not supporting them

Thank you for using your gifts and passions to educate the world and give faces to the stories in history. It is greatly appreciated. This story in particular thus far, has struck a cord within me. It speaks about two souls who secretly shared big hearts despite their diversity of public Personas, social and personal upbringings and the flaws which developed as a result of the wrong people they had no choice, strength or guidance to break away from. The fact that they helped in silence showed that they did not seek social praise but rather, just wanted to life their life with some joy( which is something all people want to do) yet still considered and helped those in need ( which is something few people care about). It admonishes the saying" No good deed goes unpunished" as the self serving advisors and even the courtiers alike, lacked the moral stoutness to stand up for them and also the 3rd state people, who were born into and molded by a wartime lifestyle established by prior monarchies, craved blood and civil unrest which needed to be sated. Thus, with the combination of aristocratic greed and frustrations of a destitute State; accurate facts, fair prosecution and just sentencing were factored. Sadly, its like they were destined for their tragic endings. Thank you again for sharing and please continue to do the brilliant work🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽

She had beautiful blue eyes, probably was considered "pretty, in her younger years, but according to her brother she became too Germania looking in her older years. It's unfortunate, that her and Louis were uneducated and too young to rule. It also didn't help they had terrible judges of characters. Had their parents taken the time to really educate them, maybe they could've saved the monarchy.

Great video! Another reason Marie Antoinette was doomed before she started was because she was Austrian, which was viewed as inferior by the French at that time. She was an outsider and although the public liked her at first, the anti-Austrian thing would not have helped when she began to fall from favour. Also, she was a woman. History has always been on the side of men. She certainly didn't deserve what happened to her.

I’ve always been interested in the French court and the French Revolution and I think that although her lavish lifestyle was wild, it was also expected from her,. When she bought expensive dresses and jewelry the people would criticize her for spending money on silly things, , but when she didn’t the people would criticize her for not supporting the designers and artists. It was a loose loose situation no matter what she did. Your talent is amazing.

Thank you for this the animations are beautiful. Marie & Louis XVI were victims plain and simple of the revolution. They did help people as you mentioned + were working on serious reforms that could have had similar impact as the revolution without the bloodshed. The word Scapegoats is very pertinent in their situation. I like to think of what history COULD have been like- alternate(and better) situations like in their case.

That is hilarious? In her day, age 37 was considered older for sure, as life expectancy averages were only around age 47 for average. Of course, many did live into much older years then average... but the average life expectancy now is more like in the 70's. Edit* That is the only thing that you got out of this video- laughing about a title? You have no comment about anyting as far as the history of her or the facial technology that was utilized?

I always felt sorry for Marie Antoinette. She was a teenager who was married for strategic reasons and unprepared for ruling a country (and didn’t have interest in that - i mean i don’t strive for power either, just want to chill and enjoy a simple life with enough money). She accepted her fate and did her best to fit into the new country. I know how it feels to be the new girl at a place and make enemies among the staff that was there before me, without having hurt somebody. It‘s all about power plays. Today, i learned that she even didn’t waste so much money and was described as kind and philanthropic. Godd that you put things straight in this video.

Hi, I really like what you are doing, I am shocked that you can now see such things!!!!!!I am interested in the French Revolution. Both the royal family and the revolutionaries. I would like to see: 1) Jean-Paul Marat, 2) Maximilien de Robespierre. 3. Camille Desmoulins, 4. Georges Danton, 5. Jacques-René Hébert. I would also like to see: 1. Charlotte Corday - Marat's assassin, and the leaders of the Vendée uprising - Jacques Cathelineau, François de Charette and Charles de Bonchamps, among others. And also genocidal revolutionaries - Louis Marie Turreau and Jean Baptiste Carrier. I am a royalist:). The only thing that bothers me a little is the eyes of all of them - I have the impression that they are to each other - all of them - very similar, a little always enlarged and more widely spaced - in each figure. . In the portraits of Marie Antoinette, there is a hump on her nose specially hidden, but she was pretty and had "teardrop-shaped" eyes. There is very little information about the Harem and there is confusion about what the sultanas looked like. Hurrem is especially facinating because she issued in the sultinate of women. She came as a slave and ruled as a queen.
