Disney & Kurt Russell's Psychedelic Driver's Education Movie

Фильм және анимация

In 1970, Disney brought us one of their most experimental and unusual movies ever - a driver's education film starring Kurt Russell. Directed by the legendary Walt Disney Studios animator, Ward Kimball, "Dad Can I Borrow the Car" takes you on a trippy and avant-garde journey through a boy's love affair with automobiles and car culture.

Holy crap! I remember seeing this on the Disney Channel back when it was relatively new as a small child. And I haven’t seen it since. So it wasn’t a fever dream after all

_The Aristocats_ was the first time I went to a movie theater, in December 1970. I was 4, and went with my Dad, while Mom stayed home with my newborn sister (2 months old now). So, it makes sense that the opening scene of the baby slap with the horn honking is something I remembered experiencing, once I saw it again. (I'd gone to movies with my parents before, but always the drive-in. So I was used to the format of short subjects and cartoons and trailers before the main feature.)

It's a shame that this era of Disney, I mean after Walt's death but before the arrival of Eisner and Katzenberg, isn't talked about that much. I find it really fascinating since it seemed people at the company didn't know how to compete with other studios It's a shame that shorts like "It's tough to be a bird" or "Fun with Mr. Future" aren't available in good quality
