DISC Personality Types Explained | Introduction to DISC Profiles

DISC Personality Types Explained | Introduction to DISC Profiles
DISC is a powerful tool that can help you better understand yourself and the people around you. This video is an introduction to DISC profiles. I will be covering the DISC personality types and their personality traits.
DISC is a behavioral model based on the research of Dr. William Marston. The DISC assessment is a personality test used to measure how people score in the four different areas of DISC. You can find out your DISC profile by taking the test, but this video can also help you figure out which DISC personality type you may be.
A lot of companies make their employees take the DISC assessment, but I've found it to be helpful not only in my professional life, but in my personal life as well.

    I've been taking this test for several times already for employment and freelance, but I never understood my results that much (the explanations were almost always leaning towards the weaknesses of each area which was really discouraging). I used to think I was an SC, Steady/Conscientious-calculative-systematic, but after this video it is clear to me that I am am mostly an Influential way more than I am any of the others. The man who introduced DISC to me said to choose a secondary personality. After this video, I'd describe myself as A clear Influential, with a lot of Steadiness traits, who has overtime become also much more Dominant: Results-oriented, valuing action, I do like leadership, task-oriented, and Efficiency! Getting things done as efficiently as possible. I'm an I.S.D., I have so many of the traits of each, in that order.

    Amazing Stuff, Ellen! Thank you! I'm a High I, and I struggle a lot with what others think of me, my rules, and my policies as a leader. Being in a leadership position, this is definitely not a good attribute, as it can turn me into a pushover. The last 1 month of my life has been a lot of self discover, awareness, and trying to solve that part of me. I want to grow a little bit of ruthlessness and IDGAF decision making skills. Any tips or pointers? Maybe a book, a course, an article, or something. I'd really appreciate it.

    Okay at first, while watching this video, I wanted to claim that I definitely fall into the dominant personality, which I kind of am, i'm a very independent and risk-taking leader type individual, but omg lol, i am the INFLUENCE category down to every single word and phrase. That is me. I'm a social butterfly who, yes can be a bit emotional sometimes and disorganized under stress, but I thrive in social settings. I love the attention and I love being outgoing and meeting people. Amazing video, and I love your video aesthetics, it looks minimal and clean. Which helps me focus more on the content. Keep it up, Ellen!

    This was tough for me at first. I feel like I resonate most with Steadiness. if I block out what I think I should be or have perceived myself to be throughout my life and look at my actions it becomes clear. I was even debating whether or not I should ask you about the LOA on your last video because I didn't want to seem confrontational or offend you in any way. I love helping and supporting others which is how I found your channel to begin with. Scrolling through new KZreadrs comments on a Roberto Blake video. I've never heard about DISC before so this is very interesting. Thank you for the tip on setting boundaries as well Ellen. Which DISC letter are you?

    High D people are the ones honking their car horns as soon as the light turns green, disrupting everyone else's peace of mind- but when balanced properly this trait is useful in positions that demand urgency & actionability (the fire chief personality). High I people are the ideal front desk or host personality and usually really fun, but their demand for attention can become overbearing in some cases. High S people will often accommodate others' needs by changing their own habits & standards in favor of avoiding friction. That's nice, but they can also suppress their feelings too much & fail to communicate enough in relationships. High C people are continuously disgusted by all of the ineptitude & carelessness that goes on in the world (a tough existence to lead), often holding others to standards that might seem impossible to meet or making them come across as severe & unforgiving- but at the end of the day, you can count on them not to break any of your stuff or take any stupid risks which could have disastrous consequences because they have a firm grasp on the finer details of reality (a rare quality in today's world, I feel). Learning about DISC assessment helped me to learn to appreciate high D personalities a little more as a low D/ high ISC person myself, even though I naturally find them to be very abrasive. I've met some high D people who are great to be around. Balance is key.

    How to change your DISC personality?

  • @theellenpham

    @theellenpham

    3 жыл бұрын

    Hi Vijay! I would focus on the traits that you want to develop. For example, if you're a high S and you want to learn how to be more comfortable with confrontation like a high D, then practice being assertive in small ways. It could be having an opinion on where to eat and letting people know about that. Eventually, start to raise the stakes and learn how to be more comfortable with that. The same goes if you want to learn how to be more outgoing like a high I. It may not feel as natural as your dominant personality type, but you can certainly develop skills and get more comfortable exhibiting different qualities.
