Realistically, we need about 18 players and a new manager. Isak, Guimaraes, Almiron, Dubravka, Schar and Joelinton are the only decent players at the club.

Our midfield was shocking. Longstaff just is not good enough. He takes an age to pick a pass and then it's usually backwards or sideways - always just a percentage pass. He offers us nothing in terms of progressive football and has developed zero relationship with Bruno in the middle. Most games Bruno looks like he's playing on his own.

  • @daniel4224

Spot on. Bruno is a one man midfield. Longstaff offers nothing creatively, he offers nothing defensively, takes too long to pass, too long to shoot, gets knocked off the ball too easily. I know what Howe stays so loyal to this guy. keep he as a squad player (maybe) but get him out of the starting 11 asap

I agree with Alex, away from home we have often played badly and conceded goals easily, to win first you must not concede. The consistency has to be on the coaching staffs shoulders unfortunately. The side we had out should have been strong enough to win and don’t have confidence to win away against Brentford, record amount of goals scored but our defence has not been good enough.

I'd honestly rather we finished 8th now and have a clean run at the top 4 next season without any distractions. Europa Conference League isn't a real trophy and even winning it only grants a Europa League place, not worth the effort imo.

Everyone is pointing fingers at the players, but reality is other teams know our game now, they know our weaknesses and exploit them weekly…… our game is always lost in midfield, we rarely control the games like we did last year and other teams are finding the holes and space now

absolutely correct. we NEVER have any control in midfield. it's bruno trying to do everything himself because the other two are useless. Bruno and Longstaff have been playing together for almost 2.5 years now and have no chemistry together whatsoever. very concerning.

Sadly, Eddie Howes loyalty to his favourites and to his methods will cost him his job. Longstaff, Krafth, Trippier, Murphy, and Dubravka wouldn't feature in any of the top 10 Premier League sides. Longstaff offers no support to Bruno. He hides on the pitch. He's a major reason why we have been ineffective for months.

The amount of times you all assume we will win drives me mad. We are an average side this season, especially away from home yet every week, its "so we win the next 4 games and finish 6th" as if we ever had a chance of doing that! And dont get me started on "sell the deadwood" when at best we will find a team that will pay half their wages!

You could see in Howes post match presser he was raging about the defence. Despite Lewis halls encouraging performance it's a pale comparison to the ability of last season's back line. It needs a major overhaul, Howe alluded to this mentioning getting the right personnel post game. You can carry one or two players of lesser ability in this league if the team is confident and doing well but we're carrying 5+ on a frequent basis. Lastly I think Wilson's probably tested Howes patience for the last time. Howe mentioned about some players only wanting to play when their feeling 100%. 80% Wilson off the bench might of offered us something, we'll never know. Finally time to sweep away the last remnants of the Ashely era that can't make the grade this summer.

Still no sign of Howe being the man to turn us from eternally cursed bottlers. Sure we are 150% better than during Bruce, but come one, Bruce activly turn any team into utter shit just with his mere presence. How we play such a disorganized game vs. an absolutely horrid ManU-team that basicly just hooves the ball up from the keeper is astonishing. Somehow Ten Hag outmanagered Howe without doing any fecking thing at all, with an entirely patchwork defense and u18-players.

“Just not good enough” is what I end up saying to my long-suffering fiancée - about Newcastle - way too often. We’ve done extraordinarily well to get to this point, and this position, given all the mitigating factors but when it counts… We’re just not good enough.

"when it counts" is the main part of the sentence there. Just saying "were not good enough" is wrong. We are good enough and with a limited squad. But it's these tough games in cup final situations that were lacking the experience. Need to be less fearful going into it as you can see what it means to everyone going into it. Same thing with England tbf and I've been saying those words for years now. Newcastle and England are very similar atm.

Gordon didn't pass the buck. He literally said that wasting good chances cost us the game and that they can't just blame VAR. He was directly asked about the VAR decision, which is why he mentioned it. He even said that he didn't bother appealing or making a fuss and told the team to just wait because he was sure the foul would be caught by VAR. I can't comment on Bruno's tweet cos i dont do Twitter.

Like Saturday we created chances, got in some great positions, it just didn't happen again, sometimes it's like that, we've been through so many peaks n troughs this season, but to be fair we do every season don't we, on reflection, yea i would start Pope in goal, we had no choice but to play Tripps, and unfortunately he was off the pace, i may even have started Joe, Dubs just collapsed like a deck chair for two of the goals, but if we convert our clear chances we win that game, we did not, they did. Add, hopefully four players at least to come in, and maybe Trippier, Wilson, Almiron, Ritchie to go, our squad will get a freshening up, Willock back, Tonali back as well as Botman. Really looking forward to the new season, massively exciting TIMES ahead for NUFC. HWTL.

People keep asking for defenders but our midfield is abysmal at the moment, once the graft is gone there is nothing to it at all. No ability to retain possession and control the game, couldn't find a pass. Defenders were completely bypassing the midfield in the first half it was that bad.

Alex's team selection issues are such a simplistic way to look at it. I'll trust Howe is putting the best he can out there. When Pope first arrived here he went straight into the team. Dubravka could have done better for the 3rd goal, but I thought the defending was more shocking than the goalkeeping. Harsh to expect him to do better for the 1st & 2nd. Dubs sadly the easy scapegoat when miserable people need something to moan about.

Nah. The stats show we are leaking goals for fun. We may be scoring plenty but we're also leaking a lot as well. A strong side has a good defense. And compared to last season we are nowhere near standards. We've had injuries but it doesn't explain getting split in two with a single pass through the midfield several times this season. You seen the defending last night. Shocking. 2nd goal from the ex mackem was preventable especially it was telegraphed several times before he scored but he was free several times. Criminal.
