This was only episode 2, & remember also they were shot before they were aired I believe, anyway I don’t think he had a contract yet.

P.S. - of course, the main contract will be concluded much later - after this competition. but this competition is also a kind of contract!!!, and long preparations for each new performance! He had been apart about 3 months at this stage when his father surprised him. And he had always had some family with him prior/was longest he’d been away at that stage in his life. Morning Kathy 🌞 Roscoe in Kazakhstan from ancient times their culture is steeped in music. Fathers would teach their boys to ride horses and sing first. The arts hold a high priority from poetry and philosophy to playing instruments such as the dombra, a two stringed traditional instrument, to singing and dance. The one country where you would never be bullied or laughed at for singing. It's a pity you did not watch the whole video or you would have seen the lovely interaction between Dimash and his Father. The look Dimash gave when he spotted his Dad was because it was a surprise, he was very young and homesick so it was a wonderful surprise for him. One should always watch Dimash videos to the end. Singer was a competition of Chinese professional singers. Dimash was the only amateur singer, he was the youngest singer, the only non-Chinese singer, and he was only supposed to be there for 2 episodes of the tv show. After the first show, Dimash had so many fans that they decided for him to stay for the whole show which was 4 months. They also had to get him bodyguards. Dimash ended up being in China for 3 years. Dimash’s dad surprised him. Dimash did not know that his dad was in China. In Kazakhstan Dimash would not be mad fun of. That whole country sings. Dimash’s mom is an opera singer. Dimash was classically trained from the age of 5. He was 22 when he was on “Singer”. Dimash came in second place on that show. They invited him back to perform the next year. The Chine loves them some Dimashi. Opera 2 was composed by the Russian singer known as Vitas. He has a high voice when he sings. He told Dimash not to sing that song ever again. Vitas only goes up 2 levels, Dimash does 4! Of course Dimash sings the whole song better than Vitas. Dimash has a better voice. 😊❤️

Because Singer producers didn't get broadcast permission from any of the artists Dimash covered, such as Lionel Richie. They kinda screwed Dimash that way tbh. But it made his international career massive.

Dimash has a wonderful sense of humor, and he really had fun with this song engaging the audience and the other contestants. This was in 2017, so he was much younger then. His boyish cheekiness here is so adorable. He didn't know that his dad flew into China to support him and was in the audience as he performed this song. If you watch the video to the end, you can see the heartfelt reunion between father and son. Dimash and his family are really very close, and their love and respect for each other is so wonderful to see. Opera 2 was a song by the famous Russian singer Vitas who sued The Singer show after Dimash's performance claiming they did not get the proper copyright permissions for the use of the song before it aired. Vitas said that he would never again give permission for Dimash to sing any of his songs in any venue for any reason, essentially banning Dimash from ever singing it again. So this video is the only chance we have to hear Opera 2 by Dimash in concert.

Your comment about the lion's mane is funny because the band he's in is called „The Lions“. Opera2 was the second performance of The Singer competition in 2017 in China. The song is in Russian. A language he also speaks fluently. The original was from the famous Russian singer named Vitas. I think it was very difficult for him at the beginning. You have to imagine, until this competition in China in 2017 he never was alone. Dimash, like many other Kazakhs, has the tradition of living under one roof with the whole family all together. He lives with his grandparents, parents, a sister, a brother an other relatives in the same house. And now he had to go to China alone, didn‘t know the country, didn‘t know the language, didn‘t know the traditions or livestyle in this country and up to that point he spoke (almost) no English, except maybe „Thank you“ and „My name is Dimash“. Only one interpreter came along and that at the age of 22. He was almost a kid to me then (my son is 20 so I can imagine…). And after that performance he saw his dad. So beautiful and emotional. Too bad you didn't see the video to the end. Backstage, he twice asked his father if he sang well. His father's opinion is still incredibly important to him today. He was also very homesick and told him that he would like to go home. BTW the audience is also the jury. During the Opera 2 performance, he flirted with the audience in a way that wasn’t really his habit at the time (fortunately that has changed in the meantime). And afterwards he said that he was really uncomfortable that his father saw him like that🤭. Luckily he didn’t find out until afterwards because I love it when he’s like that on stage🥰. I love this video because he still seemed so innocent. Just a boy and he didn't seem as serious as he sometimes is these days. He still looked carefree. Singer is a Chinese singing competition. They only invite the best singers to compete, not unknown singers. It’s an amazing show. The Singer 2017 and 2020 are my favorite. 2017 because of Dimash and 2020 because of Hua Hua.

I’ve never heard that reason given before! I had read that Dimash was feeling very homesick and they were worried about him, but not that Kanat needed to renew his contract. Makes sense.

Thank you for your reaction. There is a rumor that Vitas forbade Dimash to sing it again in public. No idea if this is true, there is at least one more video (after The Singer) in which he sings Opera 2. You are right, Dimash was bullied in his childhood (and later) e.g. boys asking him if he couldn't sing low (as a CHILD! What child can sing low?) He was drugged and technique was manipulated to make him fail in competitions (he won both anyway). During The Worlds Best, his songs were cut or removed altogether, a stage outfit was made fun of (that he wore specifically for a song that they then cut out) and when he decided to leave the show at the end because he had been lied to about the concept of the show, the judges became abusive, especially RuPaul was very out of line. Dimash listened to it all very calmly, only once he slightly contorted his face. Fortunately Dimash has the support of his family, his whole country and of course his Dears. About which, by the way, he says "I am a fan of my fans".

If you didn't watch the last few seconds of the tape, you should go back and see that, when Dimash, out in the hallway, asks his dad if he did okay. So sweet! On this TV competition, the audience were the judges, so it wouldn't have been fitting for them to present flowers. Their votes and the standing ovations were his flowers.

Singer or I Am Singer was a Chinese competition show for established singers and Dimash was invited as a wild card in 2017. This was week 2, week one he sang SOS. Its funny you mention the guys hair as a lion's mane. The band he is in is called Lion. Awww Roscoe, you cut off the best part, after they leave the room, the first thing he asks his dad....did I sing well.

this performance was so special because he was 22 and alone in China. Kanat came to surprise him and Dimash only noticed him at the end of the performance. The embrace between father and son said it all❤

The guy with the lion main hair, believe it or not, is a member of Lion Band. Well worth checking out, especially the cover of Duran Duran and It’s My Life. The lady attempting the high notes is Sandy Lam the eventual winner and also a great singer. In fact all the contestants in the Singer 2017 were top notch. There was comradeship between them and Dimash became good friends with many of them, especially Terry Lin. All the best, Peter.

Hello from México 🇲🇽 You miss the last part when they went backstage and Dimash asked his father if he sang well. I suggest you to watch Dimash's videos until the end. The Singer was a singing competition for professional singers. He was invited. He won the second place. The winner was of course a chinese girl. The whole Singer series of 13 episodes Dimash performed are a must for Dears.

Because Vitas owns the song and he forbade Dimash to sing it again bc he sang it better than the original (Vitas)

The singer was a singing competition for professionals. He was the only contestant who wasn't professional at that time, and he was the youngest contestant. It took place in China in 2017. His first album went platinum in 20 seconds.

This was the 2nd song Dimash sang in the Singer 2017 Competition - he took 1st place for this performance for the night. He placed 1st in 3 of the 14 nightly competitions. Overall he placed 2nd (I'm sure a non Chinese singer couldn't have won this competition) He was 22 and I fell in love with him from my first listening of his voice. Loved your reaction!

Sí fué un gran momento para Dimash, porque extrañaba al padre, te cuento qué Papá kanat es cantante,y la madre es soprano, y sús abuelos también están artistas, y el abuelo le enseñó a tocar el Dombra. En sú país son musulmanes, pero no como otros países, yo veo diferencia, tienen una sola mujer, viven todos juntos, los abuelos para Dimash son los padres, porque él primogénito lo crían los abuelos,aunque junto a los padres, por eso la abuela de Dimash era que lo llevaba a estudiar música a los 5 años y esperaba afuera, a ella le dolían sús rodillas,pero se quedaba más de dos o tres horas esperándolo, por éso cuando estuvo en Dubai, lo premiaron a Dimash y él llamó a sú abuela paterna, contó ésta historia,y le entregó el premio, es un gran respeto que tienen por los mayores,por los ancestros,por sú cultura qué enseñan en las escuelas, y a tocar el Dombra instrumento nacional, ojalá en todos los países se respetará a nuestro ancestros,nuestro mayores, sería otra cosa el mundo no crees??? The cool part about this is Vitas does the original version of this song and does those high scoops at the end; and Dimash easily copies him but then you see that smirk and side eye he gives the audience & judges (your time 5:44) b/c where Vitas stopped his high scoops Dimash pushed even higher not just once but twice because he can and then doing those staccato notes that high up is just showing off how much control he truly has.

Must listen to Dimash's Ave Maria. His voice is ethereal.
