Dimash composed this piece, had his words put into English lyrics, devised the story, wrote the screenplay and dialogue. It's a call for peace, love, and unity by showing the horror and futility of war. He worked on the composition for three years in between preforming, and travelling the world, giving huge concerts and appearing at many events. He also was working on his Ph.D., which he will complete very shortly. Can't wait to call him, Dr. Dimash ❤

Great reaction, thank you. Our Dimash is very vocal about the futility and human cost of war. He detests war and has stated that wars are always between two people not two nations. He has said that he is 'only a singer' so all he can do is 'use his voice'. This is Dimash's humility and him using his voice. Dimash composed the music and wrote the screen play. This was a project 3 years in the making on and off in-between commitments in many countries and his homeland not to mention his concerts of which there was four in 2022 alone. Dimash premiered The Story of One Sky live at his concert in Almaty, Qazaqstan on the 23rd September and the video released on the 24th. The emotion, heart and soul is real and I believe this was a way for him to vent his frustration at current world events. It’s mostly about life, death and rebirth. Director Alina Veripya is second to none in her field and portrayed everything magnificently. I believe she also directed ‘Okay’ for Dimash which was a great video. The Story of One Sky is an absolute mind blowing masterpiece and deserves unrivalled recognition from all corners of the earth. This makes you sad, cry and smile but leaves you questioning the direction we as a humans are travelling. Dimash promised something epic and that was a colossal understatement. He delivered as always. ♥️❤️💕🕊

Thank you Roscoe for pointing out how restricting ourselves to our own echo chambers will never resolve any of the world's problems. Depending on where we currently stand in our life and in our cultural environment, and also in what we believe, this MV can be interpreted in many ways BUT it inevitably touches every one of us in some way. Lest we forget, this MV also speaks loudly about its creator, Dimash the composer, the voice, the screenplay writer, the actor, the man. I've been a Dimash fan for 3 years now and I have nothing but respect for the artist and the man, all by the age of 29.

20:18 “I know I’m not articulate right now but it is like trying to choose to make a sentence out of 30,000 words and emotions” That actually was very articulate. This video is a lot to process. Dimash’s voice is beautiful and haunting and yet it is only a backdrop to what is happening on screen.

The Dears are working on the Story of One Sky every day as they watch reactions and comment to promote the work of Dimash. A perfect example is the clash of cultures from east to west. How difficult it was for dears from Russia and Kazakhstan to watch Americain reactors eating and drinking while watching Dimash videos. In Russia that is a sign of disrespect, yet in America that is an attempt to bring homeyness, watching movies with popcorn etc. It was so difficult and yet the Dears of Russia and Kazakhstan reached out thru their discomfort to watch, understand, and with tolerance to comment and subscribe. This is one example but the Dears are working on this all across the world trying to work towards One Sky.🎶💐💜💐🎶 We all need to work to pause before we react to anyone in any part of our lives. Thank you Rosco for watching this difficult piece. Later on perhaps you will enjoy a somewhat less intense MV like Golden or a fun playful MV like Be With Me MV. Great reaction. 🥰🥰🥰 Hugs from a Canadian Dear🇨🇦

Now you need to see the live fancam performance from Almaty concert, not the official one but the fancam, even more powerful. I love that he feels this so much however he is still young and truly believes it can be changed. Those who feel this way are not those who need to change and if songs or poetry or entreaties could do this then we would have no evil in this world. A long time ago a man was was nailed to a tree saying the same, we didn't listen then and we're not listening now. It is the heart of man that is the enemy and only The Almighty knows the heart and only He can change it. 😥 UKDear 💜🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿

I think Dimash sums it up in the verse "So when all the crazy leaders (pipers) failing, we decide to stop the trailing." It's not the people starting wars (who mainly are accepting of each other) it's the leaders and their brain washing captured media getting us into a constant state of conflict. Dimash and his childhood love had their small daughter killed through war. As shown in the final scene their baby being born at the same time is seen looking like the image of Dimash leading the remnant group of people of all colors and faiths on to a better world free of the madness of a few power hungry elites.

"It starts with us." Very well said. And, isn't that the key? If I want to change the world, then I must first change myself... heal the traumas, examine belief systems, learn to love and forgive myself... to stop all judgment of myself and others, to listen to my own thoughts and words in order to change my behavior. None of this is easy. But, I maintain hope for the world. I believe that we can live in peace. I resonate with the message in this video that this is our last chance. There is a sense of urgency to awaken; to evolve and raise our consciousness. I was raised with 'Imagine', but now it is time to take action. What can I do to spread Love in this world? I can start by looking in the mirror. I can change this present moment. That's all I have. That's all any of us have. Thank you for your thoughtful and heartfelt reaction. älemde birlik bolsın Let there be unity in the world.

The title itself - “Story of One Sky” - is thought-provoking. Before Islam became the predominant religion in Kazakhstan, the nomadic people of the steppes followed Tengriism with Father Sky and Mother Earth as deities. Like many old pantheistic religions, its core tenet was the “unity of all things” since everything in the natural world is animated by and connected through spirit. This concept of spiritual unity lives on in Kazakh traditions, music and poetry. It is subtitled "Requiem” to commemorate and mourn all those who have died in war and in the struggle for peace, but it is also a vision for the future and a call to action to save ourselves and our world. Raised in an observant Muslim household, classically trained in music, educated in world and Kazakh history, and immersed in literature and folklore, Dimash has a deep understanding of sacred music and the mystic teachings and symbolism of the major world religions as well as ancient traditions, so it is not by coincidence that the first performance of this work took place on September 14, 2022, at the Congress of Leaders of World and Traditional Religions in Kazakhstan. The written statement at the end of the video is directly from the “Document on Human Fraternity for World Peace and Living Together” signed jointly on February 4, 2019, by Pope Francis and the Grand Imam of Al-Azhar, Ahmad el-Tayeb. Dimash met and spoke with both men at the September meeting. Everything Dimash does is intentional, and this piece has layers that would take a dissertation to unravel. I only touch on some of what struck me in the symbolism. The music is a dissertation all by itself. The pendant is an interesting element. It is a gnomon from a maritime compass sundial. This triangular blade is attached to the sundial, casting a shadow on the sundial while the perforated pinhole projects the image of the sun onto the dial. It was used for both timekeeping and navigation, with the gnomon oriented to True North. (Thank you, Snarky Tart for that information). In the MV, the child who later becomes the military commander never puts on the necklace. After Dimash, the boy, gives his friend the pendant, the camera focuses on his hand and shows that his friend has bent the gnomon in anger over being rejected by the girl. Thus bent, it can never be oriented to True North, and he has lost his moral compass. Later, we see a version of the gnomon as the military insignia on the uniforms of the commander and his soldiers, but it is distorted and without the hole that allows light to shine through rendering it useless as a compass. When we lose the original intent of a symbol by twisting it into something it is not or by just paying lip service, it no longer has any spiritual meaning. At best it becomes a useless prop, at worst it is used to mislead and manipulate people. Dimash interweaves the past and the present, the ancient and the modern, throughout this work. Alluding to more contemporary music, with the phrase "We have passed the moment of Imagine," Dimash reminds us that we are past the sentiments evoked by the song "Imagine" by John Lennon. It is time to stop dreaming about a world of peace and harmony to be achieved by erasing our differences and giving up our identities. The world is complex, cultural roots run deep, and people experience life quite differently across the globe. If we choose life, if we wish for peace, if we want a world without war for our children and grandchildren, we must find common ground while respecting our differences and take up the long hard path up the mountain towards the light. It is the only way. The storyline is a very human one: we start as innocents until our hearts are broken, we fail, or our dreams are not realized. If in our pain and disappointment, we turn to anger and blame instead of acceptance, power instead of love, greed and envy instead of generosity, hatred instead of forgiveness, and revenge instead of justice, we sow the seeds for conflicts that can turn into war. We see that happening every day around us. The Piper's call is seductive as it promises redress for our grievances, control over our circumstances, and power over those who thwarted us, and this appeals to our wounded ego. However, let's remember that the Piper is a symbolic figure of Death from the Middle Ages, often used as a metaphor for trusting and following charismatic but dangerous and malevolent leaders to certain death. Many of us remember the story of the Pied Piper of Hameln from our childhood. Even if we resist, as the adult Dimash character does, we often employ the same methods and weaponry as the Piper, and thus those who fight back betray peace as well because peace cannot be won through violence. That is the dilemma of those of us who did not start war, who do not support war, but are forced to respond in order to defend ourselves and those we love. How can we rid the world of evil without becoming what we fight against? The burning sign "Waldenberg" is a reference to the end of WWII when the US Army destroyed the last of the resistance by the German Wehrmacht close to the end of the war in April 1945 in the part of Germany where I grew up. I have seen the aftermath of war as I was born a few years later when much of Germany was still in rubble. Waldenburg is only 28 miles from my hometown and was completely destroyed. There are no winners in war. Dimash is right: war is death. The last movement is powerful: The cries over the loss of a beloved child and the cries of giving birth to new life are presented as a call-and-response grounded by a powerful Om chant and punctuated by the sound of Tibetan bells that create a sacred space, reminding us that death and birth are both sacraments and are interwoven in the tapestry of life. The birth underground is reminiscent of the sacred cave Akmeshit (White Mosque) found in Southern Kazakhstan, an ancient place of power said to heal diseases and cure infertility. Dimash's vocalization and the pilgrims representing world religions and religious leaders, past and present, walking up the sacred mountain together shift the narrative toward the final conflict and finally redemption. With the mountain scenes, Dimash alludes to another sacred place in Kazakhstan on the Kazakh/Russian border, Ice Mountain, which is referred to by the local Altai residents as “The dwelling of the Gods” and by Buddhists as the location of the Shambhala, the legendary country of Gods. When Dimash’s character decides to avenge the murder of his daughter, his state of consciousness is reflected in the darkening of the sky with lightning bolts of anger accompanying the storms of his emotions that buffet the pilgrims. The fog of war obscures the light. When he is killed after exacting retribution, he is dropped back into the "sacred womb" of Earth, the ocean of love and mercy, and is cleansed of the old hatreds and grievances that only bring more death and suffering. He breaks the wheel of endless war and suffering by choosing life. Dimash's scream of “we’re choosing life” is also that of giving birth: the old earthly consciousness of an eye for an eye has to die to make way for a new spiritual consciousness that embraces all life. Soul is breaking free to return to its natural state of love and purity as exemplified by the images of the children and the newborn baby. The blowing of the shofar signals God's mercy for humankind when it turns from wrong to right: in the Zohar, the book of Jewish mysticism, it says: “When human beings repent of their sins, they blow the shofar on earth. Its sound ascends On High and awakens the heavenly shofar, and so mercy is aroused and judgment is removed.” There is a very moving scene where pilgrims bury a man who perished on the journey. Men of different faiths come together to honor his life and his passing. This reverent expression of love and unity stands in stark contrast to the commander’s harsh pronouncement that it is war that unites people. Reborn as a leader for peace and love, Dimash's character in the form of his son becomes a spiritual guide for all of mankind on our shared journey up the mountain towards the light of God, however we may interpret or name the divine. We are all on the same path, even if our personal narratives, cultural heritage, race, and spiritual orientations are very different from one another. By focusing on our common destination rather than on our differences, we can walk together in peace and love and mutual respect. Carl Jung wrote: “Knowing your own darkness is the best method for dealing with the darknesses of other people. One does not become enlightened by imagining figures of light, but by making the darkness conscious. The most terrifying thing is to accept oneself completely. Your visions will become clear only when you can look into your own heart. Who looks outside, dreams; who looks inside, awakes.” This is what Dimash has done with this work; he has made the darkness conscious. We can only raise our individual and collective consciousness by bringing to light what needs to be healed in our lives and our world, and then we need to work together to restore wholeness to what is broken and bring about peace and unity, one step at a time. As the hymn goes: "Let there be peace on earth and let it begin with me." Dimash is a very spiritual person, so using the symbols and sounds of the major world religions is fitting for this work. For those who do not subscribe to any faith tradition, I want to mention Neil DeGrasse Tyson’s latest book “Starry Messenger” where this agnostic scientist calls for the need to develop a cosmic perspective along with the rationality of science to solve the intractable human conflicts that so often lead to war. It is on that HIGHER ground - be it in religion, humanism, or science - that we can find COMMON ground.

@@janeonthelane3501 I have always been struck by the fact that Dimash is considered a Cultural Worker in his country, not an entertainer or performer. As I reflect on that distinction, I realize that this may be an important difference between Dimash and many other artists. He truly elevates the culture of his country and that of his host countries through his art. Culture reaches down deep to the roots of our human identity, and the audience instinctively responds to that. It is not a technique that one can learn and apply. It is a state of consciousness, a state of soul. Despite his young age, Dimash has certainly educated me, a woman of 70, and opened up new horizons for me. My life, and I think I speak for many Dears as well, has been made so much richer and more magical since I discovered him.

Dimash is a young man who grew up in an educated family steeped in cultural, historical and literary references. As he grew and expanded his own personal experiences his vision and his appreciation of the powers of culture expanded rather than contracted. The story he created is both beautiful and horrific because it reflects both the best and the worst of who and what we are. At the center seems to be the choices we make. We each create and then see and live in the world of our own creation, giving/receiving our own motiviations/justifications for what we do/how we respond to others.Historically, the worst atrocities often result from the focus on 'MY WORLD must or must not have ...' In the video we see and feel the chaos of war that has everyone running in senseless directions to avoid personal injury. There is NO safe place even for the innocent in such an environment/mindset. We are ALL vulnerable. When life's only purpose is to impose your will upon others then the purpose of living is corrupted beyond saving. The whole story seems to focus on finding purpose outside the limited focus of 'our own limited view of the world. Finding purpose outside of self interests and hatreds is a choice to climb up the rocky unchartered pathway, inviting all who chose to climb with you. On the first few viewings of 'Story' I was both emotionally overwhelmed and intellectually frustrated. There were so many questions that I had about not only the 'story' told but about Dimash's own purpose in the telling. I kept trying to find an answer to my 'Why?' I wanted an answer so badly. I have finally concluded that Dimash was not presumptuously giving an answer so much as offering a path. I truly love the humanity of this young man.

About the military perspective, I agree with you when you said that causing deaths in orrder to protect lives is ok, BUT the problem is when some governments use that as excuse to destroy others that can be seen as their enemies but in fact are just their "competitors". We've been living useful wars since the world is a world... Some wants to be the owners of the truth and attacks who doesn't accept that truth. That's why the only way to protect our beloved is EDUCATION, RESPECT, TOLERANCE... never war.... that became a very good business nowadays 😞

Several shooting days in Kaliningrad (Russia), where children's and military scenes were filmed, and also several days in the Charyn Canyon (Kazakhstan), where scenes with the procession of the righteous were filmed. The budget for this mini-movie is quite impressive. The director is Alina Veripya, who also shot another clip for Dimash #Okay

This song is a "modern" multicultural interfaith Requiem (the traditional Requiem is a song for the Mass of the Dead in the Catholic Church. The best known requiem is by Mozart I think). The Requiem usually has 2 parts: one mourning death and the other celebrating life. Dimash says in a low voice: Адам керуен, өмір жол. Man is a caravan, life is a road. (Kazakh proverb) So for me, the caravan is his (and our) inner world. Religiosity is in us, the religious man dies when a part of the soldier (Dimash) dies when he finds his daughter dead. So when he seeks revenge, there's a storm. Death follows death: Piper dies but the soldier (Dimash) dies too. Death is not the answer. And so violence is not the way (You can murder the "bad guy" but if everybody thinks that violence is an answer, another "bad guy" will appear for sure.) And then we see that his son made a better decision... His son joins others in seeking peace. That is the final answer. Hug from Brazil 😍🇧🇷

This is by far the best explanation I have found. It was written by Heiderose Kober: This is subtitled "Requiem” but it is also a vision and a call to action. Dimash is steeped in sacred music and has a deep understanding of the mystic teachings and symbolism of the major world religions as well as Kazakh shamanism. It is not by coincidence that the first performance of this work took place on September 14, 2022, at the Congress of Leaders of World and Traditional Religions in Kazakhstan. In the MV, (the taller child) who later becomes the military commander, never puts on the necklace. After Dimash, (the drowning boy), gives his friend the pendant. The camera focuses on his hand and shows that his friend has bent the gnomon in anger over being rejected by the girl (later Dimash's Wife and the mother of his daughter who is killed). Thus bent, it can never be oriented to True North, and he has lost his moral compass. Later, we see a version of the gnomon as the military insignia on the uniforms of the commander and his soldiers, but distorted and without the hole that allows light to shine through rendering it useless as a compass. When we lose the original intent of a symbol by twisting it into something it is not or by just paying lip service, it no longer has any spiritual meaning. At best it becomes a useless prop, at worst it is used to mislead and manipulate people. Contemporary music is also present: With the phrase "We have passed the moment of Imagine," Dimash reminds us that we are past the sentiments evoked by the song "Imagine" by John Lennon. It is time to stop dreaming about a world of peace and harmony. If we choose life, if we wish for peace, if we want a world without war for our children and grandchildren, we must act and take up the long hard path up the mountain towards the light. Even if we resist, as the adult Dimash character does, we often employ the same methods and weaponry as the Piper, and thus those who fight back betray peace as well because peace cannot be won through violence. That is the dilemma of those of us who did not start the war, who do not support the war, but are forced to respond in order to defend ourselves and those we love. Waldenburg is only 28 miles from my hometown and was completely destroyed as you can see from the picture. Many of the dead in those bombed-out buildings were women and children. The good guys defeated evil but at what price? War is not the answer. We must find better ways to keep evil in check. iowaculture.gov/.../american-troops-move-through The last movement is powerful: The cries over the loss of a beloved child and the cries of giving birth to new life are presented as a call-and-response grounded by a powerful Om chant that creates a sacred space, reminding us that death and birth are both sacraments and are interwoven in the tapestry of life. Dimash's vocalization and the pilgrims representing world religions and religious leaders, past and present, walking together shift the narrative toward the final conflict and finally redemption. When Dimash’s character decides to avenge the murder of his daughter, his state of consciousness is reflected in the darkening sky with lightning bolts of anger accompanying the storm of his emotions that buffets the pilgrims and hinder progress. Dimash's scream of “we’re choosing life” is that of giving birth: the old earthly consciousness of an eye for an eye has to die to make way for a new spiritual consciousness that embraces all life. His soul is breaking free to return to its natural state of love and purity as exemplified by the images of the children and the newborn baby. The blowing of the shofar signals God's mercy for humankind when it turns from wrong to right: in the Zohar, the book of Jewish mysticism, it says: “When human beings repent of their sins, they blow the shofar on earth. Its sound ascends On High and awakens the heavenly shofar, and so mercy is aroused and judgment is removed.” Reborn as a leader for peace and love, Dimash's character in the form of his son becomes a spiritual guide for all of mankind on our shared journey up the mountain towards the light of God, however we may interpret or name the divine. We don’t have to wait. We can start right now. As the hymn tells us: "Let there peace in the world, and let it begin with me." Baraka Bashad.

Of all the reactors/commentators I have watched review this incredible film, you are the ONLY one to take more than a couple minutes of time to sit with what you just witnessed before opening your mouth. Your silence was as powerful as your comments. Perhaps you could do a part 2 for those "30,000 words you couldn't put into one sentence". You obviously have so much more to say about "The Story of One Sky". I, for one, would definitely watch.

Thank you. Thank you thank you thank you. I am a firm believer that every person on the planet needs to see this and fully understand the gravity of it. Dimash has a great deal of passion about the negative impacts of waging war and this is a huge labor of love for him. He has been known to speak out about how we, as adults, always think that we are smarter than children but grown ups have never suffered on a mass level due to the decisions of a few children. How many millions of children, and others, have died because of the choices of a few adults? He packs a ton into this and that's why I recommend everyone sees it more than once. The first time is a shock to the system (as it should be) and each time after should be an opportunity to grasp the finer points. I have seen this at least 20 times and each time it still rocks me to my core.
