blog : www.learnex.in/dining-etiquett...
In this dining etiquette video from Skillopedia, you will learn 4 things to avoid at the dinner table. Mealtimes are absolutely vital for family bonding and developing social skills. However technology is taking over the dinner table these days, people have their heads buried in their phones. Whether you are dining with family or friends or even with your peers, there are certain sociable skills that you require. In this session with Skillopedia let's have a look at some dinner table etiquette.
facebook : / skillopediaone
Website : www.letstalkpodcast.com
1) When at the dinner table with people around there are certain things that you need to avoid. Things that can be a little offensive and that you need to avoid are :-
- Do not chew with your mouth open
- Never speak with a full mouth
- So not try to reach out for something that's not close to you, ask someone to pass it to you.
- Toothpicks should be used in private not as you walk out of the restaurant or dig your teeth in front of the people you eat with.
2) Be courteous and let others speak before you
If you are courteous, your good manners show friendliness and concern for others. It is important for you to listen to what others say and acknowledge them. This friendliness will help you and the other person to open up and have a better conversation on the dinner table.
3) Continue eating -
While you continue to eat is is also important for you to listen to the conversation between other members of your family and try to enter into it by injecting a thought and smile and friendly laughter with others.
4) Compliment -
If it's your friend or family member has cooked the dinner it is nice to compliment them on their cooking skills. Say something like " this soup is delicious or the food is absolutely great" Even when you are at the restaurant for dinner comment on what you eating, if the food is any good, appreciate it or complain about the bad tasting food.
Hope these basic principles of proper dinner table etiquette help you to avoid any social embarrassment. Enjoy your meal.

I have 2 questions: 1) Is it rude to keep bury ones head on the cellphone and not talking or looking at people dining with you ? 2) Is it rude to keep quiet the whole time dining with others? At one time I was holidaying with family members and when we sat down to eat, it was all quiet just because we knew this particular elderly lady does not like us to make conversation, talking and laughing. I and the others felt awkward the whole time eating with her, so we ALL just kept quiet, finished eating and off we go.

who wants to eat in places where cant do the thing the way want...lucky that I am not from the elite class. I understand that these things you mentioned don't look good, but I don't think they offend people. Following all these things eventually, leads to a person stop enjoying his food and concentrate on rules

actually...human being have developed social skills slowly in thousand of years , it now that technology is separating them....so its a matter of thinking whether we are progressing or going backwards...as science and technology are not the only thing which decides a human race advancement.

I’m just focusing on, things that you should avoid at the dinner table. You don’t need to have a great social personality to enjoy food in a restaurant. But do follow some basic etiquette in the social place.

I agree with what ur saying....but I think we should not judge people by how they eat. who made all these rules? if I were in such posh place and someone eats with their mouth open, I wouldn't mind or at least I wouldn't be offended (offended is a very big word to use). I appreciate your effort in telling such things to people, but what u can also do is tell such people who get "offended" not to get offended as they are not doing any crime by eating with their mouth open. Please don't misunderstand me. Ur a lovely and polite lady yourself. let's not judge people with such silly things, we are not British, we got out of that crap 75 years ago. let's be what we are, we have our own culture
