This show is for professional singers who are established and the audience members are also seasoned musicians who are people in the music industry. Dimash was not the first non- Chinese on the show. There were many non Chinese singers on the show before and after him.

This has made Vitas a very small person.

I’d say he was no longer an amateur when he started making a living singing. He did his Bastau concert right after The Singer, & his album iD going platinum.. I’d say he was no longer an amateur then, regardless of his participation in any show…

@@lolawants2008 it isn't a competition but what one would call a Reality Show, a way of discovering and showing to others, other sides of oneself (includes singing, dancing, acting, sports and other physical activities) 😍🤗🤗

So, Dimash always planned rather than dreamed to become a world star. As a toddler, he’d play with boxes of cassette tapes and build them into a stage and pretend he was singing on it. As he mentioned in interviews, he grew up winning singing competitions right and left. He lived in Aktobe, a small city in northwest Kazakhstan. Finally after trying for two years he managed to get into the Zhas Kanat which is a national competition and won it. By then he was getting known as the son of Kanat and Sveta because his parents were quite well-known. But a number of established older singers criticized him for being different and pretty much told him to stop making those girlish sounds. He accept criticism respectfully but still go his own way. Then one day, one of the judges at a contest admired his voice snd talent, and told him that in order to succeed, he had to go abroad. She then advised him to enter the Slavianski Bazaar in 2015, which he won, as the first Kazakh ever to do so, causing him to become an instant national star. He started getting invited to tv shows, to travel with cultural team abroad, etc. Thus, when the organizers of Singer 2017 looked around for a black horse (wild card) someone who was a Kazakh Chinese on the staff suggested Dimash. The rest is history. In a way, that’s why Dimash is so sincerely thankful to his fans for loving the type of music he wanted to create, against the judgment of so many others.

Can you imagine being one of the fools that criticized Dimash for his high vocals. Well I guess he proved them wrong. If he hadn’t continued to follow his own path the world would have been missing the greatest singer of our lifetime. Thank goodness Dimash marches to the beat of a different drummer.

I think Dimash and his family have always planned very carefully his career. Dimash told in an interview, that he was invited to participate in the Slavic Bazaar already in 2014 but he chose not to go - he felt he wasn't ready yet. A year after that he went and won it. They also had to choose if Dimash accepted the invitation to the Singer. He was also asked to compete in the U.S. (I guess AGT...) But they chose the Singer and it was definitely a right thing to do. The show is for professionals and very well produced with amazing musicians. He did very well in the show even if he didn't win (the difference was very small, smaller than one point). He gathered a large fan base in that big market and afterwards also an audience from all over the world. Compare this to the treatment he got in that "show that shouldn't be named"...during the show and also after it. And he wasn't even an unknown singer anymore but a star with solid fanbase... Edit: Now when I think about it... Dimash couldn't have taken part in AGT and such where children and adults are competing together. His values don't allow.... So it was quite clear 😊

Actually, vitas tried to sue Dimash, but it was the producers of the show that asked him to sing it. So vitas couldn't sue Dimash personally. It was our gracious Dimash who said he would not sing it again.

Dimash never said that. He performed the song one more time before the scandal broke. Vitas' producer gave interviews to the Russian press where he called Dimash bad names, like thief and threatened to sue him. There is no way Dimash would have performеd this song after that, but he never actually said anything about it.

Lot of rumours about this. What I heard was that Dimash performed Opera2 for another performance in China outside of the Singer competition and that was not what was agreed between Vitas managment and Hunan. However any artist could of course gracially allow a cover or even be happy for it instead of acting offended.

I grew up with the understanding that it is an honor to have someone else sing your song and make it their own. Dimash got appreciation from "Celine Dion & Lara Fabian" after singing covers of their song. "Vitas" seems to be very arrogant and non sharing artist. I find his pieces to have a very international appeal but that is all.

Although I think she was able to make a comeback on it (not sure about that, actually. I may be thinking of Teresa Carpio.)

This is a Vitas song. He was so annoyed that Dimash was able to go so much higher than him that he refused to give permission for him to perform it again so this is the only performance there is of Dimash singing Opera 2

My friends I'm sorry to disappoint you but all the songs that Dimash covered in this contest were better than the original singers. That's undeniable and he can't sing in the same singularity as them, because Dimash is Dimash and that's it. Dimash has been participating in contests since he was 6 years old when he won his first contest. And he has been performing in several Asian countries with resounding success and winning all contests in first place because of his unprecedented and unique voice and performance. In china he was second because there the first place is always the Chinese, and when interpreting SOS it got 600 million views, is it soft? It was there that he became best known in America doing shows in London, NY because in Europe he was already widely known and admired. Dimash doesn't sing better than the original singers because he wants to humiliate them and yes he can do it differently. It's a Dimash honor to relive songs that have already been forgotten, and with that, we are again enchanted by the original melodies and their respective singers. Hug from Brazil

Not to give knocks to others that have sang a song, he up's it for his own and it truly is better. Vitas singing this song was choppy sounding and he was like a stick standing and singing. Dimash made it flow so much more and made it fun.

He was the first non Chinese artist and the youngest at the time to be on at 22. All the others were professionals and well known. Very talented. Dimash was a wild card. They didn’t expect him to go past the first 1 or 2 episodes. There were 600 million views of his first performance I believe.

It’s one of my top 5 performances from Dimash so I’d love to see that reaction as well.

Thing is, he could probably go up another couple of times these days, at least. Love seeing him with Kanat, you suddenly realise just how tall he is.

Though I've lost the exact quote, Dimash once said that as soon as one thinks of himself as a "star", he is finished as a person.

HIS HOME Traditional Kazakh men do not leave home and bring their brides home to live with he and his family. The audience of this show are the judges and I understand that they are mostly if not all from the music industry. The contestants are all professional, most of them have career spanning decades with multiple platinum hits. While I am unsure if there is a written or unwritten rule that a non Chinese cannot win. The judges/audience grew up with the music that some of the "contestants" music so with the language and cultural barrier, it was never meant to be impartial or fair. But for all intent and purpose Dimash was the winner since he skyrocket to international stardom and make good friends with many veterans in the Chinese music industry. I think one of the contestant that join later, Terry Lin even went to Dimash personal concert and had a guess performance.

Terry Lin came in the competion in episode 5. From the start just seeing him one in the group Lions saide he looked a bit like Terry Lin! Also Terry have similure voice to Dimash , he dosent have the highest or lowest like Dimash but so mutch alike. In episode 9 Dimash started calling "Terry "Papa Lin" or "father" becouse thats the highest praise he could give him from his country. He is so humble and respectfull to outhers like that. Also Dimash invited Terry to his first big consert in Bastou in Kazakhstan after this competion in China ! Terry have invited Dimash to his. T hey both vere invite from Jackie Chang to Jackies film festival there they sung Dimash song "Unforgettibleday"--Dimash in Kazakh and Terry in Chinese. At the 2 year eneversiti of Dimash coming to China Dimash was recording his album in a studio. Terry had found out and just turned upp with a cake for Dimash! Dimash dident know that before he saw him there!! They listend to the outhers new songs! There is a video from both that visit and the outher ocation I talked about. Diamsh and Terry are still that close.

So I see the comments often saying there was a rule that non Chinese couldn’t win, & that because of Dimash they changed it. Thing is- I watched every single episode of this season (at least the versions uploaded to KZread that state they are complete)… there was NEVER any mention of this rule, & there was never a moment where they differentiated Dimash when speaking of the competition or voting. So I don’t think that’s true, although it’s repeated a lot. I do however question even the basic fairness of the vote count, there were moments it was clear favoritism to the Chinese stars (sort of seems like the woman who won was picked to win.. there was another front runner who seemed neck & neck with Dimash, then she just disappeared from show & was edited out of future episodes with zero mention). The point about the fairness regarding simply the other contestant’s familiarity with the audience probably can’t be overstated, as we likely can’t exactly relate.. I’ve been waiting for someone from China to give a comparison to what kind of western stars would be an equivalent.. but the audience knew & loved all the words to most of these other contestant’s original songs. So- in the end Dimash narrowly missed 1st place.

The Singer was a show for professional and popular singers in China. The only reason Dimash was able to compete was because he was discover in another event and was known in his country, but not in China.

SO LONELY He had been alone in China with a translator and coach for months and his family grew increasingly concerned by his apparent despondence. He lives traditionally, the extended family under one roof. His Father called the show's producers and advised them he was flying in for the next show, but wanted to sit in the audience and surprise him. Having been aware of the slide in Dimash's disposition, they were thrilled. Knowing this, the camera kept flashing to Kanat. He never went back, and until recently, a family member has always travelled with him for perfomances, concerts etc. His Mom, when asked what she does, when its her turn to go with him, and he's rehearsing and busy. Oh, I shop ! she said and grinned. He said that if he'd known his Father was in the audience, he never would have been that cheeky !!

Hi guys, it's me again. O so you know when Vitas performed the song Opera 2 he was lip syncing. That was told by an expert in music from Russia. I also want to tell you that every body in the audience is a judge and are very skilled musically. Some of them are musicians others voice coach.

Yes, he was invited as a wild card, it was experimental implemented by the Singer Program.

This context lasted for 3 months and all of the Chinese singers are professionals. Dimash was invited as a wild card and was only expected to last for a couple of weeks. The audience all had some kind of musical background and acted as the judges. He stayed in China for a while and started building his career. Check out Thousands of Miles a Common Dream.

Loved your reaction guys, in fact I love everyone's reaction when they hear Dimash. He is an incredibly accomplished singer, performer, musician and an all round amazing guy. His voice control is phenomenal, almost effortless. For one still so young he really has taken the world of music by storm and just gets better with every new performance. Not sure if you like Opera, but please find time to react to his duet of the Pearl Fishers with Placido Domingo, it is superb !!

After today's performance on Shine absolutely nothing is going to surprise me anymore, watching Dimash play the dombhra like an electric guitar has to be the ultimate. Plus Lukas would kill for the jacket he wore.

Yeah, all of the contestants were already professional famous artists and Dimash was brought in as a wildcard, they never anticipated the immediate popularity of Dimash, thus making him an overnight sensation in China and KZread has introduced him to the rest of the world, fans on over 130 countries.

Based on what I heard and what I read, Dimash was the first non-chinese participant in the Singer Program. He was brought in as experimental. When he lost to Sandy ( the lady who was trying to hit the high note at the end of the video) the fans demanded for an explanation. Rumors came out that he lost because he was non-chinese. The program organizers washed their hands and shifted the blame to the audience who served as judges. To rebut the theory that his lost was due to his being a foreigner, the organizers brought in a strong contender the following year (2018) in the person of Jessie J and made her win to show that the critics were wrong. However, many also feel that Hua Chenyu, a Chinese participant, should have won instead of Jessie J. By the way, Dimash's participation in the Tokyo Jazz was made possible by a Japanese guy who saw Dimash performed in Turkey when he was younger. The Japanese said he kept an eye on Dimash from that time on. He further narrated that he closely monitored Dimash's progress in the Singer program. When the proper time came, he invited him (Dimash) to the Tokyo Jazz Festival.

Loved your reaction. Please listen & react to Dimash’s cover of Richie’s Hello (which he performed when returning back to China after The Singer competition). That was another case when the original artist blocked Dimash from singing the song again. What a shame! A Meadowlark forbidding a Canary from singing his song! :( On the other hand, awesome that Dolly Parton was so gracious to allow Whitney Houston to sing her early, signature I’ll Always Love You. Houston blew it out of water and Parton was proud of her. That’s generosity and representative of the love of music and goodwill. Actually he did have the opportunity to sing it again before he was forbidden to do it.

The producers of the show picked the song. Yet Vitas was not happy Dimash sang it without permission. The backstory of Dimash on the show. China decided to invite non Chinese singers. Dimash and then Jesse jay. He was very popular in his country and doing competitions. Sos? Dimash was not use to someone let arranging his music and there’s a clip where he says he’s not happy with the arrangement. Then redoes it. He was so nervous but the Chinese people fell in love with him. When they come calling he doesn’t hesitate to perform for them. When doing daybreak make sure you do the singer version with backstory then the bastau version. Love the two of you

China invited him to the show, he was a nobody to Chinese audience at that time. His outstanding performances did wow the crowd and came to fame in China after the first performance of singing SOS

Dimash hade been in contest in Kasakhstan and countrys around it. Many big contest there many countrys was there to compete! He hade alwayes won!! In one of them a man seen him and later talked to the people of "I am a singer" to gett him there. Dimash was the youngest ever and also in his season the oldest was in she was about 60 years old and so mutch fun to see. They al took care of Dimash becouse they saw him as a kid brother. When Dimash got sick in episode 8 one comtesten "Li Jian" bouth him a verry expensive Chinese medication so he could gett better soon. Another contestent hade bring him some kneepads!!! So he wouldent hurt his knees when jumping down on them. Tia Ray another contestent he meet on the flight there...and become good friends and when she hade to leve in episode 3 he was so sad. The winner of I am a singer in this season he was in was "Sandy Lam" she was around 40 I think and was well known in China.

No, this is a competition for super well known and established singers in China with many years of career!! Not like those immature talent discover on The voice , got Talent shows. And Dimash was a wild card that who basically won this competition ( he was placed second because there was rule that foreign constestant could not be the 1st place ! ) so he was a second place and basically he won this competition. They changed the rule the year after when Jessi J joined

The fact that The Singer is a very high-level contest cannot be repeated often enough! The quality of everything, the singers, the musicians, background singers, stage set-up etc. met the highest quality standards. Respect to the organizers. Cheers from Vienna!

Vitas did one key change in the original, Dimash did three, not only that but I’ve heard the original, and Vitas is not even close to how Dimash sang this song! No wonder he forbid him, to sing it again! Dimash’s tone is just unparalleled, he sings beautifully!

You guys must watch Dimash singing Just Let it Be, to close the epic Arnau Kinetic Voice in Kazakhstan.. After which he boards his spaceship to go back to his galaxy... Incredible!

About lucas' question, Dimash began doing piano performances in Kazakhstan when he was 6. He began vocal performances also as a child. By his teen years, he was well-known in Kazakhstan and neighboring countries. At age 19, he won 1st place in the prestigious "Slavic Bazaar Competition" in Belarus which gave him a big career boost and eventually led to being invited as the 1st non-Chinese participant on The Singer in China. Although he finished 2nd to the very popular 42 year old Chinese singer Sandy Lam, he really was a huge winner because the Chinese people loved him and made him a superstar. After The Singer, he continued to record and perform in China for a couple of years and flying back to Kazakhstan, Russia, and other countries to perform.

The Singer is show for professional singers. 10 -40 years experience.

Dimash does whistle notes. He has done it in concert. I think that he consciously did only three or four scales up in this competition. There are politics at play as noted and he is very diplomatic. By the way, he is 6'3" tall, a big guy. His family dotes on him, and mom and dad are professional musicians.

His first hit was at the Slavic Bazaar in 2015. He won the first prize on the contest and lunched him in Russia and the Slavic countries. However, the Singer is the competition that lunched him to the entire world. He had 600 million viewers. The other contestant were already famous Chinese singers. Nice to see you and don’t forget You are enough🥰🥰🥰

When Dimash sang SOS during his first performance on "The Singer" of 2017, he was seen by 600 million Chinese households and the rest is history. He came in a VERY close second to a very well established Chinese singer, but probably should have won. In 2018, the Chinese changed the rules to allow non-Chinese the opportunity to win...and Jessie J. was the winner that year.

I love the moment when he sees his father in the audience. His mother said in an interview that his calls home showed how homesick he was feeling, and the producers and his translator echoed those concerns which is why his father went there. Since then, he has never been without a family member with him when he travels.

This was week 2 of the singer competition. There were 14 weeks! Wikipedia tells all the songs! Dimash just barely missed 1st place in the entire competition!

:) Your reaction that he is not human is common. My first thoughts too. The first time I heard Dimash at the recommendation of a friend, I could NOT believe what I was hearing. I've heard all the "greats" live and on recording. But not one of them ever moved me to tears. Hearing Dimash for the first time, tears rolled down my face in wonderment, awe and disbelief! I only share that Dimash has worked harder, sacrificed more, and is more disciplined than you can imagine. Since BEFORE the age of 5 he has lived, breathed, eaten and slept music; I don't know how many instruments he can play extremely well including the Dombra, piano, and drums! Wait til you see him play the drums and the Dombra! He has studied all of the great singers on recordings and on film, he has 2 Masters in music and is working on his Doctorate. He's only been to a nightclub 2 times in his life. He does not just sing, he is a bodybuilder of singing and a scientist and scholar of music. He works really hard, never drinks, never smokes or uses drugs. Yes a gift, but a diamond is only a polished work of art after great and careful work and attention to the smallest of details has been painstakingly applied. He has earned all of this world wide success and acclaim that he has achieved thru his hard work and dedication. Dimash's instrument in the rough was a gift, but what he has achieved with that gifted vocal instrument is due to pure genius, discipline and a lot of hard work!!!!! You can be born into a family that provides you with a multi million dollar Stradivarius violin, but if you don't study with masters, practice above and beyond what most mere mortals are willing to do, discipline yourself to use that great gift, it's just a piece of wood and strings. He has earned his rewards! 😄

The woman that won the show was that one with short hair that tried to sing the highest note. Once someone commented she is in China something like Barbara Streisand in USA. So, being second among singers that are well established is more than good 🤷‍♀️

Lionel Richie ("Hello") didn't like it very much too. Dimash sang "Hello" just once. He was discreetly asked not to continue.

Sadly we will never hear Dimash sing this again since Vita's group sued the Chinese station for not getting proper copyrights (not here but at a different appearance they had him sing this at).

Dimash must sing the famous hits. It was the condition from organizators of the competition - BTS TV. Because it was competition between "well-known singer + producer" teams, not between young singers. Dimash's producer on this project was Arai. You can see him on the begining of this video.. and on the all videos of Singer. He is ethnic Qazaq from China. It was his idea to invite Dimash in China and he did it very successfully. Arrangement - Erlan Bekchurin. Vocal couch - Maira Dauletbak, Academy of Arts, Astana. Dimash studied in Academy of Art in 2014 - 2017.

They have to do all cover songs and make them their own, they are allowed to do one of their own songs in one of the 14 weeks.
