Dig where the rock walls come to a corner and you will find old stuff

Ойын-сауық

Walking along a New England rock wall with my metal detector I came to the section where it corners and started getting signals on my Fisher F19. It was day four back to the abyss for me exploring and metal detecting looking for old places. the abandoned and deserted farms of colonial NH. I walked miles again finding buts and pieces of broken cart paths and stone walls. Was hoping to spot a cellar hole but this place is rough and so overgrown it is difficult to read the landscape history. But in the corner where the walls meet for whatever reason there was stuff....as usual. Nails, buttons, melted stuff and other random. Pretty strange not being near any proper old sites. The search continues and its awesome.

Wow all those buttons in such a small spot. What's great detecting day for you Charlie. It amazes me of how many hours and days it took to create those beautiful rock walls😊

One thought on buttons is that when you live out in no where you use what you have to repair clothing. I would suspect that a shirt could have several different buttons on it.

My mother was born before the depression. If clothing wore out, buttons were cut off and saved. Just like my father with salvaging screws, nuts and bolts.

the best things I find in corners of rock walls are old beer cans - specifically from the 30s - and yes - even if totally brown you can clean them up (sometimes very well) with oxalic acid (and any other tins) -and - find the right cans - even barely legible ...$$$

Nice button spill. Don't you picture a dropped coat that had buttons of different ages used over the years. Buttons from the "coat of many colors"? Thanks for sharing!!!

Hmmm...curioser and curioser. Perhaps sheep as you say? And someone minding the flock rolled up a little bundle of clothes (the day warmed up?) and tucked them into a rockwall crevice, never to return for them. Was there a large cent tucked in a pocket? Musings and imaginings.. Thanks for sharing.

Connecticut has satellite imagery from 1934, does New Hampshire have anything similar? It’s a good way to see how things looked back in the day.
