This scene is one of my favourite scenes in all of Bond. The fab music, the rescue (I love a rescue), the unapologetically ludicrous plot, and of course Pierce Brosnan (best Bond), in one of the most delightfully camp films of the whole series.

If this entire movie was like the dark North Korean beginning, it would be a top 10 Bond movie

I thought so as well; the movie began to go apart at the seams after Bond returns to active service. And then the silly Aston Martin arrives.

The first half of this movie is very good! Overall Pierce had a good run.

Bond vs. Zao is probably my favourite car chase in the series. Both evenly matched, with Bond relying on his wits to get the upper edge. The music’s amazing too, and the Vanquish is the sort of Bond car I’d love to own.

This type of bond was great for video games.

I love this movie. It's just a 21st century love letter. A celebration of the good, the bad and the absolutely ridiculous that this franchise has to offer. Check your brain at the door, get some popcorn and just go with it.

I can't stand it when people tell me that I should leave my brain behind when I watch a film. When I watch a movie, I am looking for stimulation so something that has to work. Not every film has to be masterpiece but it should have some redeeming qualities.

Plenty of great movies (not saying DAD is an incredible piece of cinema) ask you to entertain some ridiculous things and just go with it. Most Bond films ask that you forgive some of their more outlandish moments in favor of spectacle. The movie isn't trying to be anything other than what it is, so why criticize it for what it's not. Try and enjoy the romp. That's all I'm saying.

@@cvbelmont4766 There is suspension of disbelief and then there is insulting the audience. As outlandish as some of the Moore films were, there was at least some clever dialogue and well constructed humor. The spectacle was one element of the film. Die Another Day proposes good idea, leaves them underdeveloped, and the whole thing is barely distinguishable from a video game. The movie isn't as bad as Quantum of Solace but it's close.

rewatched it this weekend, it occurred to me the seeds of a good story were there about James Bond being betrayed in N. Korea and figuring out who betrayed him and what Gustav Graves role in all of it was. But it clearly feels like there was someone in charge who had to crank it up to 11 and went completely overboard on everything even when it didn't need it.

I think they got scared halfway through thinking they would lose the audience engagement and ultimately revenue; Hence the massive 180. Tamahori wanted the movie to appeal to the adolescent group more than anything!

One of my favourite Bond car chases.

I love this film. Got it on dvd the moment it was available 20 years ago. Rewatched it many times. But never knew it was hated/disliked.

I saw a comment on this by Matthew O’Donnell that said the first half of this movie is great and I agree this movie should have been about revenge and carried on from bonds capture bond shouldn’t be at his best in this film he should be beaten down and brooding if they had carried on with the tone of the first half this may be one of the greatest bond films and one of Brosnans best

The film is a product of its time, just like Moonraker. But Pierce Brosnan still carries the role extremely well, the perfect balance of strength and vulnerability (which is the complete opposite of Daniel Craig's "superhero" Bond)

I know this movie gets a lot of shit but I like to think of this movie as a poetic goodbye to this classic era of Bond due to the movie having so many references such as Goldfinger laser throwback scene, parachute scene from TSWLM, Kleb's shoe From Russia With Love in Q's scene, diamonds and satellite laser from Diamonds Are Forever, and many more. The movie's tone is over the top as a poetic way of ending the classic Bond era with a bang.

Come on (turns to the camera, points at the water) it's warm in here! Things that are difficult to show in film...

I don't know what you lot keep going on about DAD being a bad movie. I loved the so called "silliness" it's a part of the Bond brand, it's fun to watch. The newer stuff are just generic action movies, nothing special.

Pierce Brosnan will always be the best Bond. However 99% of the writers and directors that were involved in his movies were shit with GoldenEye being the exception. These people had a nice blueprint on how a good Bond movie should be but they ignored it and made brainless chessy Bond films.

Goldeneye and Tomorrow Never Dies were good, The World Is Not Enough and Die Another Day were pure shit.

I find "The World Is Not Enough" worse, because it's simply boring. Just bad without any redeeming element. In my opinion, "Spectre", the latest one, is also so much more unwatchable than "Die Another Day".
