Sitting here at twenty past midnight with tears in my eyes...again. This song meant so much to me since I met my wife back in 2003. We both loved Dido and her amazing angelic voice. Now I just turned 39, got divorced 4 years ago and pretty much lost everything and everyone I once thought to grow old with, after suffering from a burnout depression that almost killed me. It's been hard to realize how privileged I really was back then, how fragile life can be at times. Well, still miss those times, she will always own a place in my heart and I wish her all the luck she can get. Rejoice and let Dido's voice sooth your soul!

Every once in awhile a song rides on the edge of perfection. This is one of those

If the rain was a song it would be this song.

As a young man 45 years ago I was deeply in love with a young woman. There came a point after a few years that she felt the need to leave. It happens and although it hurt and life happens I never did fall out of love with her, there was no white flag in my heart. On New Years eve 2020 she reached out to me on Facebook. For me after 40 years it wasn't a matter of trying to fall in love again, I always have loved her. I will be seeing her again in mid March 2021. Never surrender the love you have in your heart for someone to time. Mid March came and I did go see her. The ride up to where she lives took 6 hours, one of the longest trips of my life. It was amazing to see someone again that had held my heart for so long. We kissed and hugged there in the parking lot for what seemed to be an eternity. I thought there would be a flood of tears from both of us but there wasn't. What there was for me was a feeling of peace that caught me off guard. I stayed with her for 10 days. At times it seemed like we just picked up where we left it. Other times it seemed strained as we both tried to maneuver through our years apart. As I drove home and replayed moments in this journey I was left with more questions than answers. The love I have carried for her was and is as strong as ever. I doubt though that I could go there and be in her world. When I got home I talked to her. I told her I felt like we had let a special moment slip by us. She asked if it wasn't possible for us to have another moment. My reply was of course we could. We just have to wait for another 40 years. Thank you to those who replied to this post.

Well, I wouldn't exactly say better. Her voice still sounds absolutely amazing (!!!) absolutely no doubt about it! I'd say she sounds way more honest during the live performances. Her studio voice - to me - sounds more softly and clear ("studio-tech-magic" I think). And it was that "softness" in her voice I instantly fell in love with- back in the early 2000's. The arrangement on this live version of the song is outstanding, imo. The subtle little changes that bring to the final climax and release on Dido's only voice and piano are delicious. Bass and drum kick sound perfect, as well as the whole mix (and panning). A joy to listen to!

The song "White Flag" means being in love with a person who's already moved on. She basically has made a lot of mistakes in the relationship,but she is still willing to love him regardless of that. While he has moved on and found him another girl,she still has feelings for him (And when we meet,which I'm sure we will,and was there,will be there still. I let it pass and hold my tongue and you will think that I've moved on). So she is pretending that she doesn't love and have feelings for him. She is pretending that she has moved on. Because the Yanks waved the white flag to the North Vietnamese and turned tail and left the South Vietnamese to fend for themselves....(before everyone flips out, I was just kidding..I'm sorry, I couldn't resist when I read E D's comment. In truth I have nothing but the utmost respect for what you and your comrades did over there in Vietnam.)

I just read an 900 page book about Vietnam vets through the words of all who went through it...the book was from the 80s it wasn't a gem and focused almost as much on the deserter as the warrior but the big take away for me was the women who married them...the way they explained the crazy love or lack thereof (and love making) had me twisting in my covers feet just running against each other

How can you not love this women; and the powerful voice.
