    @@barca-vibe True, but also, name a midfield player on City who is not required or expected to score? There is not one. Kevin, Rodri, Silva, Bobb, Doku, Foden, Grealish, etc.. they are all expected, and do, score. Barca? Expected? Gundo? Frenkie doesn't even try and Pedri tries at times, fails at many, but rarely gets great opportunities. Barca cannot make up its mind what offense it wants to run. Headers to Lewa? Crosses to Lewa? Pedri had good and horrible moments. He’s refusing to make long passes on quick decisions and opts for high risk drbblings in high risk/ low rewards situations instead. It’s not like he wants to command the tempo, at this point it looks more like he can’t play and think quick enough sometimes. This is criticism on a high level but that’s what we need to win ucl knock out stage matches. I was also frustrated with frenkie. He goes into dribblings against the press but instead of using the advantage he gains, he mostly opts to spin back again and make a lateral or back pass that does mostly nothing. What was also missing were quick, long passes to the other side of the field, we were forcing short passes on the same side over and over again instead of using the width of the pitch to our advantage. For some reason our players aren’t confident in their long passing ability and/or in yamals ability to receive it.

    Really xavi has to teach De jong how to raise his head and pass to Yamal on time. This is so crazy to put it all on xavi. I was watching Gundogan in that match and he was screaming at pedri because pedri wanted to take more than 3 touches before making a pass and the spaces were closing because of that. There was a time in the game Gundogan puts his Hands on his head because he could not believe the decision pedri was making.

    More concerned on the last 20 mins after conceding the goal. The way we lost the momentum and were unable to get the ball out of our half, players looked clueless and gassed out & Xavi not subbing players to match the intensity was a major lapse. Remember at one point De Jong trying to carry the ball from our box and was caught right into their midfield press. Had it not been a foul drawn it was a setup for total collapse (4 vs 3 counter). Xavi needs to find a solution for these plays as those tense sequences are bound to happen in UCL run!

    I think we need more of a 2nd forward than a left winger; I’m suggesting this because Lewandoski is one player in the squad who can get us goals! He is not as mobile as he should be so we could get Ademola Lookman to play alongside with him! He is very mobile, a team player, humble and he has good stats. He is also affordable! Then we can fully develop Victor Roque to take over; with a smooth transition. Also I agree that we shouldn’t sell Pedri or Araujo with a better coach I believe they’ll be much better! Our pivot issue could be fixed in the next window hopefully with Onana, hopefully we can sell some players that don’t fit our current system. Joao Felix is good; but we’ll need someone more aggressive off the ball. Right now we have 2-3 passive players off the ball (Lewandoski, Gudogan and Felix) and that’s a luxury we can’t afford right now! To fix our defensive issues our midfield and forwards need to be pressing more to reduce the burden on the defence! I hope we focus on our future so we can get back to our winning ways!

Everyone is playing in-between themselves because of the pressure. Barcelona is playing like a selfish team. No one is making extra run for their team mates except the kids. This is not on xavi because this players sees the passing lanes but they refuse to make them because of fear. Where are De jong long passes to the wings for raphina from last season. Did he forget how to make them.

    We shouldn’t sell Pedri or Araujo just because of the injury issues. It’s the club’s medical staff that need to be changed because our injuries are a squad wide issue. Replacing Pedri and Araujo for someone with the same quality would probably cost us the same amount if not more. It makes no sense to sell them for a big fee just to get a new player to adjust to the system. We’re just selling players that we need like Kessie for Romeu and we’re way worse off in the long run. We need to stand by our players and hope that our next coach is able to solve the medical issues which we have.

    True to a point. Pedri covered A LOT for Messi and a host of other's INABILITY to play the other side ofthe ball. Say what you want about late career Messi, but playing while out of posession does not exist. He walked and scratched his cheek. Period. It is also true that Messi's movements, his drawing-in of defenders and his precision passing allowed Pedri to flourish in the offensive areas. I think Dan mentioned, and allof us see, that after years of repetitive injuries, we have a snake-bitten timid Pedri not playing the way he had. The host/guest painstakingly prefaced this by introducing a scenario where a club offers Barca very high numbers for him. An entirely reasonable proposition considering Barca's horrible financial predicament. You also cannot omit his injury record from consideration. Carrying an injury prone player who misses one third of matches is an extreme luxury. Luxuries are not for the poor. I do agree that, just like Kounde being slammed despite playing out of position, Pedri's lackluster performances are more likely the result of Xavi's baffling offensive schemes. Dan is also correct that Pedri looks hesistant and unwilling to trust his body in certain situations. Pedri can first cut out the diving, flopping, and complaining to officials everytime he is touched. If he's this snake-bitten: sell him.

    I can't believe how clueless culers are criticising Pedri over pressing and defence. Two of his lowest skills being forced onto him. For the 100th time PEDRI IS LIKE BUSQUETS AND MESSI. Middle of the field, minimal movement, switching play and creating chances. Atm, it's tricky because if he's placed in the double pivot, there's no defence anchor. And if placed at interior, no affective press. This is why Gavi is so missed because he offers both those attributes.

  • @viscabarca4082

    @viscabarca4082

    Ahem.. those are 2 skills that Koeman exploited (because Pedri was very young, full of energy, and was fighting for a career) and subsequently propelled him into the starting lineup 🤦‍♀. Pedri's job was to essentially cover for Messi (and quite a few other old-heads) when Barca didn't have the ball. That meant pressing, repossessing, and setting up in a defensive position in our own third while Messi went on a stroll. That's quite literally what he did under Koeman. Look at his heat maps in those campaigns. You say Messi is minimal movement🤣🤣😆. This is patently ridiculous. I had a carnet, religiously attending matches, and was residing in Barcelona when a youthful Messi entered the first team. He was a man possessed and he consumed the pitch. The man would literally carry the ball from the centerline to the goal. We were treated to his b team performances on TV3 on a regular basis. In fact, you can search Messi's teenage years with barca in the second and third here on KZread. Then tell us about minimal movement. Messi only minimized his tenacity and endless running with both systems to counter the defensive coverage teams started placing on him and age (in 30's) so as to prolong his career. Barca in fact built a system around the conservation of his energy and fitness. Anyway, back to Pedri, have you seen his youth/CF Laguna, UD Las Palmas highlight reels or performances? It was anything but minimal movement. Pedri's skillset involves ball retention, quick 1-touch interplay in tight spaces, and pinpoint precise short distance ground passes through lines. I have no doubt that Pep or Arteta, in their systems, could allow Pedri to shine. The issue many of us are having with Pedri, now, at Barca, is his reluctance to commit, his tendency to go down easy, his reluctance to go forward and commit to the counter-transition, and his incessant looking to the official for a foul or a card. This must stop.

    @@viscabarca4082 Okay first, I don't need to be educated on Messi. Just like you, I witnessed EVERY detail of his play through out his career. You can't argue that minimal movement for 70% of games was not a major reason for Messi's unstoppable attacks. Preserved energy. Same with Busquets. And secondly, it's just unfortunate that Pedri has been wrongfully utilised his whole career so far. You see Christensen's new role in midfield? That's where Pedri belongs and where he'll thrive the most. Not at interior where he can't effortlessly shoot and has no effective press. I hope the new coach takes care of this.
