This is a short video explaining the slight variations in the solo section of "Rise" that I taught just after the song came out. Now that we have video evidence of Nuno performing it, I wanted to show everyone exactly what he is doing.
Cheers, Carl

You are the most comprehensive and accurate teacher of songs on KZread, and the sheer amount of subscribers and positive comments should back up my claim. Do the ones who say “you’re wrong” or whatever even come close to playing it correctly themselves? 😏 I’ll wager you’ve done more for people’s advancement of learning songs than they have or ever will. 😎🤘

One of my students told me the black nail polish is to remind Nuno to begin all solos with upstroke so he doesn't jam his pick between strings and screw the whole thing up. It's a great solo and a great lesson Carl, thank you! Folks, quit quibbling and join 'the Academy' and start getting your own style high and tight.

The guitar community is so odd for having everything in guitar performances be EXACTLY like they’re performed live even though those same artists will change things on their own solos. This adherence to standards is the most un-rockin-and-roll thing ever to me. If anything, this just demonstrates the amount of time and attention you give to every song and that learning from your vids guarantees 99.9% accuracy

I'm sorry you felt such a need to explain this. Throughout the past few years I have learned so much from you, but also with youtube being the way it is today, you can see 10 different people play these songs in 10 different ways and most are the same notes and therefore right. Sometimes I even come across some videos that do play it differently and it hits you with just the simple fact that, that way may feel better or be easier to attain than the correct way, yet still come across as 99% accurate. It's sad that people put up enough comments that you feel you had to correct yourself and explain that it wasn't perfect but 99% and if they NEED 100% then they NEEDED this video. Keep up the fantastic work and channel and know that you have helped so many people, myself included! Cheers!

Hey Carl! I'm sorry for asking a question which is not related to the video, but I'll be very grateful if you answer😊 Recently I started playing more often and, to precise, I'm playing fast tempo music. So, I noticed that the surface of my nail started to erase and right now the difference in thickness on both sides of nail is visible. And it hurts!😂 What is interesting I didn't feel any discomfort while playing. So, the question: is that normal for players who play fast or is it a wrong position of hand and fingers which causes this damage?

(A little differently than Carl I might add) Carl the work you do is amazing. I will eventually I'll learn the rise solo. Someday I'll subscribe but as for now I play very little. The muted part is very easy for intermediate to advanced guitarist. You are correct not the trill picks that’s easy but around the d pentatonic position is hardest part ! I also just listened to the whole album the songs are mehhh one or two I like but I think his older stuff like decadent dance and whole hearted are much better written and the album about ten years ago with king of ladies I think it’s called is horrible sounds like nickel back lol I think they are ok band but singer has always held them back. That’s just my opinion if they had someone else they would have appealed to more people gary vocals to me are like scratching a chalk board. Overall good band but nothing special and some of their albums show that. Again just my opinion buts it like rage or audioslave vocals stand out or go after unique sound vocals like white lion . Again just my opinion.

It's ridiculous that you even have to make this video. I guess some people wouldn't have anything to say if they didn't just automatically take a contrarian attitude. Let's remember the immortal words of Eddie Van Halen... "If it sounds good it is good. " nobody sounds like Nuno playing it no matter how close it is... and of those same people, spend a little more time trying to learn the whole song instead of just nitpicking solo, or better yet try playing original music and be the next Eddie or Nuno, neither of which ever plays every thing exactly the same every time.... love your Videos Carl, you are consistantly the best guy teaching guitar in KZread.

First, I love your videos, but when it comes to this one, in my opinion, you have it wrong. Your first video shows a way of playing the solo that sounds great and it very much in the style of the piece, but I'm going, to be honest when most musicians play music, we change stuff for a heap of reasons; maybe it sounds better to us, or maybe it feels more comfortable, maybe our physiology is different, and maybe we fancy a change. Speaking personally, I often play a piece one way for a while, then sometimes just changes, and then I maybe very well play my original and new way interchangeably. If someone wants a precise replica of the music, goto to Spotify. Keep pumping out the videos just have been; they are great and very educational!!!

Awfully nice of you to do this Carl, but you made another mistake smh ... The nail polish. How dare you forget this elemental part? Jokes aside, to be able to play your guitar heroes' solos is already something impressive & prideful. However, we will never sound and play it exactly like them or that goes for any other guitarists' work. Its impossible. Nuno has his style & feel. Just like EVH, Jimi Hendrix, Steve Vai. And like Carl Brown does too. 🙌🏻 I believe the point is not to copy note per note, detail by detail, but to honor their work & play it with a touch of your own style. Anyway, give Carl a break, he's a legend himself covering and teaching the works of the guitar gods to worldwide viewers 🤯!!

For example, I feel that Alter Bridge’s Blackbird solo is far more epic, more emotional, has bluesy undertones; then takes off when Mark takes over and ramps up the speed, intensity, aggression, etc. Guess what, I can’t play the solo in Blackbird either. Does that make my opinion any less valid?
