Being a drummer...just gotta say that another one of the absolutely amazing things about that guitar solo (like there isn't enough already)...is how monstrously rhythmic it is. The bass and drums are laying down this monumental foundation...and Nuno is riding it like lighting in a hurricane. Dancing all over the fret-board...creating such tasty tasty tasty runs and combinations and explosions of sound. And those arpeggios where he climbs out of it!!!! There are lots of new guitarists on the block who can shred like a demon...but makin it musical you gotta have wisdom...you gotta have experience...and you gotta have years. Nuno has it in spades! Usually I always say that Guthrie Govan is my top dude on the guitar-playin block...but Nuno does things that I've just never seen or heard before...and he does them like an effing bat-out-of-hell!

Respect what you're saying but alot of what is in that solo is stuff Nuno has played before over the years. Why it sounds new and fresh is because he's crafted a bunch of his licks from these various tracks and thrown them into this tasty mix. Not that this matters overall but for those who love figuring out his solos, he has other songs that help guide you towards working this one out. Obviously only talking to those who love to learn by ear.

I saw Extreme live on my 30th birthday. The thing that stood out is that Nuno didn’t look at the fretboard once. He played with his ears and hands like Jeff Healy or Stevie Wonder. At the same time he was running around like he was playing basketball. He didn’t miss a lick.

Nuno is an absolute machine on guitar...precise, highly technical, few if anyone can play as fast and as clean as Nuno can. Unbelievably talented rhythm/lead guitarist. What amazes me is Extreme still has that same gritty, edge-rock sound (and vocals) that they had over 20 years ago when Pornograffiti hit the shelves. I heard Rise pop on the radio for the first time a few months back, not knowing Extreme had released a new album...knew within seconds of hearing the song that it was Extreme, with Nuno ripping new riffs on a new album. Huge props to Extreme for cranking this one out and still sounding as good now as they did in the Pornograffiti days. The guitar solos in "Get the Funk Out" and the "Flight of the Wounded Bumble Bee" in "He-man Woman Hater" are legendary Nuno solos. 3 sides was also an amazing album...anyone with an appreciation for rock and highly skilled guitar work will love that album.

3 sides was also an amazing album...anyone with an appreciation for rock and highly skilled guitar work will love that album.
fvkin loved this a super lot. insane energy. how did I not know them before?

Great job, my man. Nuno is a beast! 🤘😎
Awesome break down, mate. I'm not even close to being as gifted as you, but it's awesome to see you attempt to figure out the chord structure, etc. It still amazes me that musicians know exactly what a single note is (A, B, C, C#, etc, etc). Total BEATO. Anyway, love the channel/insight. Loved that you covered Ian Thornley too -- one of the best guitarists/vocalists around.
It feels like I'm going back to my youth but Nuno and Reb Beech are my two favourite contemporary guitarists. I feel like I'm back in the 90s 😂
Awesome, and yes - a perfect embracing of / tribute to EVH's influence - as well as a vibe-centric gauntlet thrown down to all the new 'kids' coming up. Playing with feel always wins. 🤟
I like when you say ladies and gentlemen.
Mixing up open strings plus hammer ons (ghost) notes on adjacent strings is throwing so many minds off. That's what we need more of. God bless rockers.
Nuno has a swiss precision metronome in his right hand. Adding the highly expressive phrased of his play make him very impressive. A truly guitar genius who i got bond with on my first listening of it's a monster !

Just subscribed. Great reaction/analysis. Loved it. Every time I describe Nuno to someone who doesn’t know who he is I start with “percussive.” And as much of a student/influence of Eddie as he is I see the same in Eddie as well and I love it.
Just love the way you break things down! This is such a great new song coming from a band that rocked my twenties and fits right in with my favorite type of rock, percussive guitar playing is so awesome, Nuno showed us that he could do different styles years ago, just take for example one of their first hits 'More Than Words' and then listen to 'Rest In Peace'!!! Gary is also still tightly wound with Nuno, granted he messed things up when he went over to VH for a bit, not that the songs they created were rotten, but just not Extreme! Yeah, a little pun there haha! This is them man, just love it...and it's aggressive yet smooth when they hit some jazzy spots, melodic and great to listen to just on its own and if you're at all into video racing games this song could be an extreme (more pun haha) track song. Adrenalizing! Love it!

Sorry, Mike, but all due respect, I've known Nuno and every angle he comes from since I started playing in '88. He's an absolute monster, and is unmatched. UNMATCHED. The combination that he has, is unarguably unique. I always loved, and studied, his mix of lead and rhythm. Dare I say, he made me the guitarist I am. No one does it like Nuno does.
