Diamond push ups are a variation on the standard push up where your hands are together and below the midline of your chest. It's a great calisthenics exercise for emphasizing your triceps and inner chest.
If you're a beginner looking to advance your push ups, diamonds are a great step forward. Feel free to leave comments if you have any questions. And don't forget to like and subscribe! I have plenty more content coming your way soon.

    Good, but i suggest to first practice on diamond push ups on your knees before advancing to full extended legs diamond push ups. Once u do 20 of theese on your knees, then u can go further on full legs. By the way, good video as usual!

    Uno qualunque thanks! And yeah, I agree, doing them on the knees would be beneficial for anyone struggling with the close grip to diamond grip transition. Thanks for the input. Wish I'd included that in the video.

    Remember, If you want muscle growth then stay in a hypertrophic rep range. 8-12 should be the max you can do and if not then make it slower, add weight, or find some way to make it more intensive. If you want to focus on muscle strength then less than 8 is the way and if you want to focus on muscle endurance then more than 12 is the way. But always try to maintain good form in whatever exercise you're doing. P.S. I'm just saying this in case you needed this, if not and you already knew this then good job, but it's our job to help our fellow man out.👍

    My palm makes a curve while pushing up. The inner parm rises up, the outer palm with pinky finger getting in contact with the ground all the time. Any suggestions to correct this? How to keep all the palm area in contact to ground all the time?

  • @clownsallaroundyou

    @clownsallaroundyou

    2 жыл бұрын

    I believe outer palm getting in contact with the ground more makes your triceps and to some extent your inner chest (lower portions I guess?) involved while bringing your inner&mid palm into the play is more about getting your upper portions? of the inner chest and other heads-parts of the triceps and shoulders involved in the process. Just a speculation based on experience tho.. As per getting your mid-inner section involved I believe getting on your knees andworking on your form would be a helpful start. Positioning your hands/fingers outwards a lil bit more wouldcshift the stress emphasis making it easier for you too.

  • @MinusTheGym

    @MinusTheGym

    5 жыл бұрын

    Tony Zhang Excellent! Glad to hear you're working on your diamonds :) My wrists suffered in the beginning too. It's most likely from lack of flexibility and strength in the connective tissue of the wrist joint (that was my problem, at least). Check out the wrist stretches in my handstand warm-up video (1st video in this playlist at 5:30 mark: @t) and do those stretches daily. Massaging your wrists & forearms daily can also help because it will improve blood flow. Simultaneously concentrate on moving the hands closer *very gradually* across weeks/month. Eventually you will build the strength and flexibility. One thing to note is if you've had any previous injuries to your wrists or conditions like carpal tunnel, that could be the cause as well. In that case I'd recommend seeing a physical therapist to see what they'd recommend.

    Absolutely. These will really help bring out the muscle tone in your triceps (back of arms) as well as in the shoulders and chest (separation of pecs). If you don’t want to add size, just don’t focus on a high protein diet and extra calories. You won’t bulk up without that sort of nutrition. Eat plenty of fruits and vegetables and these calisthenics exercises will just lean you out and bring muscle definition.

  • @MinusTheGym

    @MinusTheGym

    3 жыл бұрын

    You’re doing nothing wrong 😊 Connective tissue takes time to strengthen. A lot longer than muscle. If you have pain in the joints then ease up until it subsides and then keep working on the diamonds, just go easy on them (less intensity, more frequency and volume). A little bit every day or every other day is good. If your joints feel sore, you did too much. And make sure to use submaximal sets. This will help the connective tissue strengthen. And be patient! No matter how you go about it, it takes time.

    Dopey yeah, if you're new to advanced push up variations it will take time to develop the strength in the connective tissue. Just stick with it and it'll gradually go away as you adjust. Handstands do it too. Make sure to rest enough between push sessions if your wrists are still sore.

Back then when I read about it I got the explanation that some people just got pain from doing diamonds so its not for everyone but I think it was just my form being bad and I didnt hold my thumbs right. Keeping the elbows closer to the body is something I need to remind myself.

  • @MinusTheGym

    @MinusTheGym

    Captain Rhodes yeah, flaring the elbows out caused me some pain as well in the beginning. Keeping elbows closer to the ribs will take some strain off the rear delts and external rotators, letting the triceps do more of the work, which is the whole point of diamonds :)

    All might Bakisan yeah, it most likely means the connective tissue in the elbow joint needs to be strengthened. Keep working at the diamonds but very gradually bring the hands closer together. Don't rush it. Over time your joints will strengthen and you won't have the pain anymore. Also, don't work on the diamonds if your elbows are sore. Joint soreness is a little different drom muscle soreness. It's a duller pain. Give it time and make sure the the connective tissue recovers completely between workouts.

  • @MinusTheGym

    It’s an unusual position for the hands during a push up. Your tendons are not used to the pressure. If you gradually move your hands closer and closer together over the course of many workouts, you’ll adjust a little easier and build the strength. Either way, it’ll just take time and persistence to get used to.

    Its original meaning has nothing to do with the shape your hands make. The original meaning of "diamond" is due to the shape of the gap between your chest, arms and hands. It doesn't matter if you make a triangle shape with your hands - it is still a "diamond" pushup.

    20 pushups that’s GREAT! Me too! Do 20 push-ups a day for a month. Maybe take a rest every 10
