for this amazing delicious two in one video two ways of soft dhalpuri first dough is a yellow skin roti and not to mention very soft so you got to be gentle
2nd dough is trini version which I used often soft as well but a more natural color roti skin so let's get started
recipe one
dough
4 cups flour
4 teaspoon baking powder
1 teaspoon salt ( optional)
oil a few tablespoon
I used coconut oil
3 cups yellow water 💦 which the dhal was boiled in might not use all
when kneading little at a time
1 cup extra flour for dipping dough ball and rolling out
knead and leave for 30 minutes cover with a plastic wrap and kitchen towel
dough 2
4 cups flour
4 teaspoon baking powder
1 teaspoon baking soda
1 teaspoon salt (optional)
3 cups water 💦 might not use all little at a time when kneading
oil a few tablespoon I used coconut oil
1 cup extra flour for dipping dough ball and rolling out
knead and cover with plastic wrap and kitchen towel leave for 30 minutes
preparing the dhal for the filling or stuffing for the dough balls
6 cups of yellow split peas or dhal washed and put in a pot to boil with 8 cups water 💦
1 teaspoon saffron or tumeric powder
1 teaspoon salt
boil for 25 to 30 minutes until it can be press smooth with a back of a spoon 🥄
drain and set aside some of the yellow water 💦 to knead the first dough with
put back up some of the water 💦 to continue boiling with the
1 head garlic (about 10 clove's garlic)
3 pimento pepper 🌶️🌶️🌶️
1 hot scotch bonnet pepper 🌶️
this helps cook the garlic so it won't burn your stomach cook until it tender
drain and set aside to cool completely before grinding to a nice pasty filling
after grinding
2 tablespoon roasted geera/ cumin powder
1 teaspoon salt (optional)
(tip)
if grinding the dhal a day before don't forget to reserve the yellow water 💦 to knead the dough with and keep your grind dhal and yellow water in the fridge when kneading the dough take out the water 💦 1/2 hour before to cool back to room temperature
dhalpuri roti step by step instructions from grinding and preparing the filling it can be prepared ahead of time you can also do extra to have to use another time can be placed in ziploc bag and flattened place in freezer so you can have it to use couple of times so it would be to just make the dough
dhalpuri roti is a delicious roti or some say roti skin it is a soft roti in texture with a delicious dhal stuffing or filling it is cooked in many roti shops here in the Caribbean it is opened out and different curry dishes is place in the middle of the roti such as potato 🥔 or curry Aloo ,curry chicken, even Stew's veggie such as pumpkin ,or whatever you want to eat it with you can get it spicy 🔥 or medium and it's wrapped up hence calling it a wrapped up in other countries it is called dal puri ,dholl puri (mauritius) it is a street food there as well with there curries other countries it is popular in is Trinidad and Tobago, guyana, suriname they love there dhalpuri roti as well
it is a roti similar to aloo roti just aloo is the stuffing
if you don't have a food mill or dhal mill you can use a food processor just make sure it processed properly
I remember when I was growing up my mum would make this on a Sunday for us to eat hope you try it and enjoy it

Never tried it with the dhal water. Looks yummy either way. I think it’s important to note, not to use the dhal water with baking soda, as the roti will turn a reddish orange color.

Hello appreciate the comment I did some long vids and presently I am doing some short ones check out the recent ones thank you
I read that you are not using music any more That is a good idea, because the music was very distracting. I have not watched any of your videos before. I would suggest that you decrease some of the time by showing less of the same thing that you are doing. Some things were too repetitive. Otherwise, it was a good demonstration.
