DeWalt DWS779 Miter Saw Review

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

DeWalt DWS779 miter saw review. This Dewalt 12-inch sliding compound miter saw is similar to the more expensive DWS780 model. The only difference I could find is that the 780 has the cut laser guide and the 779 does not. In my opinion, this is the best DeWalt Miter saw you can get! I’ll try to answer any questions you have. I've used this DeWalt Miter saw for a few years now and love it. Check out the DeWalt Miter Saw review! Just an outstanding review. Very thorough. Hit every important note! I went with the 779 as well. Didn't occur to me that it didn't have a soft start. Oh well, I guess you get used to it. Thanks for making this terrific video review.

Really good review. You sold me. They are selling for $349 now so it was an easy choice. You little insights on the saw helped me start right up. I checked mine and the angle were dead on out of the box. I saw they have a combo Dewalt blade package now. The 2 blades for price of one. It has the original blade saw comes with and another Dewalt blade with 80 teeth. I got it and swapped out to the 80 tooth blade. I'm building a 12' oak bar. It is making perfect miter cuts on the oak Chicago style rail( that's the area you lean arms into on front of bar). I have never seen a smoother cut. The pieces fit like they are one. Thanks again for a great review. I too almost got a 10"

An angle gauge would make sure you get the exact angle. You can also use them on your table saw to make sure you have a perfect 90 degree angle on your blade. www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00T6YZ0K6/ref=as_li_tl?ie=UTF8&camp=1789&creative=9325&creativeASIN=B00T6YZ0K6&linkCode=as2&tag=731woodworks-20&linkId=deb54c97ba43e1491436398b55d5c704 (affiliate link) hope that helps.

I know this is an older video but struggling to find some dimensions. Building a saw station before saw arrives and I can't find how deep it is from of front of bench to the back wall, or how far the rear of saw kicks back when it's slid all the way back. Also, how high is the deck off of the table, so I can build adjacent table tops level. Thanks!

Great video. However, it should be noted that the DWS779 has gone through at least three production versions at the time of this response ... Type 20, 21, and 22 now being the latest. Each production version has obsoleted (ended production of) the prior version. However, you will not find information concerning the production version Type on the product's packaging. The production version Type may only be found on the label affixed to the label affixed to the saw's motor. Suffice it to say that all DWS779 saws are not the same and you have to dig deeper than the model name. When initially produced, the DWS779 and its $200-$250 more expensive sibling, the DSW780, differed only in that the latter featured an LED shadow cut line light (XPS Light). While the DWS779 Type 20, possibly Type 21, and DWS780 may have all of the features shown within this video, the DWS779 Type 22 production version lacks at least following features: - the bevel stop pawls - slide stop lever. I can only surmise that these production changes were introduced to drive down product cost and provide greater differentiation between the DWS780 and the DWS779. It should be noted that many had been turning their DWS779 saws into full DWS780 saws by adding an aftermarket LED shadow cut line light for less than half of the cost differential between these two saws. Given this information, should the bevel pawls and slide stop lever be must have features for you, then you will need to purchase the DWS780 rather than the DWS779. Please additionally note that the DWS779 Type 22 saw has no provision to accept the bevel pawls or slide stop lever parts from the DWS780 or DWS779 Type 20/21.

I got the next model up, the only difference is that it has the "laser" light. I didn't think it would make that much of a difference, but it's incredibly useful. It more than compensates for the hard start. You can see exactly where the blade is going to touch and where the cut is going to go, before you even touch the trigger. It makes a great saw even better. Not that big a price difference, really worth it though. YMMV.

Excellent reply. I just read a couple of articles stating that the main difference is the LED system on the 780. I personally like the LED guide system….so my question would be how much it would cost to upgrade the 779 to the XPS LED system. Because the cost of the 780 is startlingly more expensive, if that’s the only difference. The 779 is $399 via Amazon, which is a great deal comparatively speaking. So, I’ll shop around to see what an XPS LED aftermarket upgrade would cost. Seems silly to me to spend THAT much more money for the LED guide… So, thank you for the info you provided. I had no idea that was an option.

source2112 hey man, so this is what I’ve gathered by this point and so I’m gonna try it soon. My confusion was based on the fact that apparently Dewalt claims that this saw was not designed for it. But, I’ve read some info that there are saws they produce or have produced which you can simply add the light to it with minimal invasion. Maybe the ones that have a lazer already or was just designed to accept it I’m guessing. But I think that if you get the light, get the switch box, and also get the handle that will mate to the switch box, then you should be able to just go ahead and dig in there with snips and wire crimps and what not and make it so you can put the light up there. I haven’t taken mine apart but I’ve looked it over pretty well and it does have a removable little console up front (exactly the shape of the xps light) and it also has the separate long thin cover that routs a wire back to the controls. So it looks like the design of the saw body is the same but those spots are just dormant. Don’t quote me for sure but that has lead me to believe that because of all that piddling around, Dewalt probably does not encourage the modification so they say it’s not compatible. I think I’m going to try it out in the near future and I’ll be sure to follow up. I’m pretty happy with the saw in comparison to some 3 other makes and models I’ve been through. Seems to be a fine saw. Alright, Good luck y’all 👍🏽

Matt, I have this saw as well, and ran across a site that has a DWS779 XPS Light Upgrade. According to this fellow, the only difference between the 779 and 780 is the light. Looks like an easy enough fix, and cost is $64.62. The 780 uses that "XPS Shadow Light Technology". Instead of a laser, it uses shadows from both sides of the saw to focus on the cut. According to him, the closer the blade gets, the more accurate the cut will be. There are videos below the price information on this web page: www.mmtoolparts.com/store/miter-saw-upgrade-kit-dewalt I won't upgrade right now, but will in the near future. And I'd be interested in your take on this upgrade. Bob

If it works as advertised, it would be a very handy upgrade!

You placed the wrench wrong. The stock of the wrench should go inside the hole in the saw base.

I keep seeing that "The only difference between the 779 and the 780 is the 780 has a laser", but this is not true. If you look at the specs, there are a few slight differences, but a major one is that the 780 is about 10 lbs. lighter, with almost identical specs, where did dewalt sacrifice this weight? Is the the 780 not built as tough?? Food for thought if you are considering the 780. (Who uses a laser anyway?? How thick is that laser?? Do you leave the line or take it? :DDDD Happy Cutting

I've seen some comments where guys said they talked to dewalt bout diff between 779 & 780. They say the 780 has better motor, bearings and has the light of course.

@@731Woodworks yes everybody likes them from what ive read. Im just a rookie. Ive the 12 sliding Ryobi. I put a Diablo on it and cuts great. With factory blade it was always a lil off one way or other so i pulled blade off and sure enuf warped. Put diablo on and no probs. I will get a Dewalt after i put some wear & tear on this saw. 👍

This saw is recalled as of 2022. The safety shield is flying off and exposing people to laceration hazards. The company is supposed to send out a repair kit to replace the safety shield. After contacting DeWalt three times within a month, I still have no repair kit. I have been told every excuse possible with no resolution. They are not satisfying the conditions of their recall leaving me with a $600 saw I cannot use. The FTC recommends leaving public reviews for these kinds of companies to warn other people. I have always supported DeWalt until now. A recall is one thing but a company who disappears during a recall - that’s really bad. They currently have several recalls and I wouldn’t recommend risking money on their products going forward.
