    OK. I guess you would have to use a hand circular saw for longer boards.

    They are not regulated per say, they are not illegal, Arbour's on EU table saws do not have the width to allow the fitting of a dado stack. UNLESS you do as I did many years back and buy a table-saw that has a longer arbour... Which are freely available to buy. I can also get a dado stack here in the UK if i know where to go. Also table-saws here spin down fast with braking.. at least mine does, mass is not an issue. What is a problem is importing anything like a dado as UK customs will not allow anything through that is considered sharp and dangerous to life, it is not about the dado is is that it is classified as a blade.. . blade being the operative word here. So they have to be legally imported. With an EU stamp it gets automatic entry.. As does anything with that stamp on.. AND most important with an EU stamp you pay through the nose for it as it costs to get that stamp.. so i will pass on it and buy mine for half the price of the EU blade. AND my blade locks together no problem and comes from the US..Never had one that spins independently.

    Over 50 years experience in woodworking including owning a major furniture manufacturing company on the west coast. Used properly the existing dado set never presented a problem. We made sure the carbide on the blades were not chipped and were sharp. We staggered the interior blades which resulted in a cleaner cut. The outer blades and more teeth than this new dado set. We did have saw sharpening company come twice a week to service all our cutting tools. We even made our own moulder knives. The new set is rogress I guess but seems like a lot of fuss over a pretty benign situation.

    Yes, build something. Several years ago I got a jigsaw & drill in a kit on sale when I was out of town working on a project for a relative with hardly any tools. I got them because I knew I could return to any HD if a problem. Later I upgraded the batteries during the Father’s Day sale, getting the shop fan for a free tool as part of sale. When we moved across town to an apt those were the power tools 🧰 I kept. Having

    It doesn’t make any difference whether it’s legal now. Part of the regs stated that all manufactured table saws must have a shortened arbour so as only to accept a standard blade and not a stack dado head blade, so unless you have an early saw with a lengthened arbour you are screwed.

    Great reminders - I would add one more tip (that neither the creator or myself appear to need worry about!)... In addition to being careful with loose clothing, be careful with long hair (put it up or manage it some other reliable way - just "tucking it under your cap" is not necessarily a great idea as the cap falling off at the wrong moment when leaning over the saw could be A Really Bad Thing™). I volunteered as a "regular" (one or two days a week) on Habitat For Humanity sites for a number of years. There were a lot of "beginners" on the job site - including ones with little or no experience with anything resembling "manual labor" because it was a common "corporate team building exercise" (HfH got a "donation" in exchange for the babysitting!) for teams of professionals. I often cringed when I saw someone (almost always a woman) with long hair using a miter saw and would politely suggest they might want to do something to reduce their chances of their head being sucked into the saw by their hair (unfortunately, this was occasionally interpreted as "mansplaining" in the progressive area I live). (Unlike some chapters, we were fairly free with letting "day volunteers" use all sorts of power equipment including table saws, nail guns, and miter saws as well as clambering around on 4:12 roofs with less than adequate fall protection.)

    Just ordered to replace my Harbor Freight set. Not a bad set just lacks precision in cutter diameters. Curios, were the people in the EU allowed to use wobble dado blades? It has only 1 blade so no collision fears. Have a blessed weekend and keep up the work/videos! Rickster

    Fantastic down to earth video, I spend a lot of time using many different tools including a table saw. Two years ago I was ripping a thin strip of wood, I was doing exactly the same thing that I have done many times before with no problem, I was feeding the wood through with my fingers close to the blade (not using a push stick) As my hands got close to the blade I had kick back, the wood fired rewards, but unfortunately my hand carried on into the blade, you can imagine the result. Its so easy to become complacent but an accident can bite the best of us in a split second. Great to see some common sense safety tips that can help prevent the same thing happening to other people, regardless of experience or skill.

    My father lost 1 & 1/2 fingers using a old-skool dado stack. A piece of rebar was buried longitudinally in a maple board and the end blades stopped but one of the inner knives came apart and "walked" across his hand, ending up imbedded 20+ feet away in the wall. He lost 3/4 of one finger, 1/2 of another, and 1/4 of a third. Ice, a cooler, and calm nerves saved the fingers, but all three had to be pinned after reattaching . It took a good while to heal, and he never got full use of his left index finger. The flip side is he had to modify his golf swing (mainly his drive/long game) and his game improved from a 4 handicap to playing scratch golf. Can't overpower your swing if you lose flexibility and grip strength, ya know. Still not worth it, IMO.

    I've had a spiral up bit pull itself out of a Makita palm router. The force it was using cut and scoop materials apparently was pulling it away from the mandrel. Love the router, but it couldn't hang on to that bit. (Pretty sure it was the bit, but worth thinking about.

    For #1, I highly recommend this versus just holding a board up on the saw. One thing I will suggest is that rather than double stick tape, you use the clamp that comes with every miter saw that is totally worthless for any other application; now, not only are you using a piece most people just consider at throw away, you can make one jig and use it over and over. Or, just buy the Rigid R4222, which cuts angles up to 70 degrees; that's what I did and I've been happy with it so far.

    I’ve had a dado stack for a few years. I hate it. It’s hard to setup repeatidly and takes a lot of trial and error to get right. Also makes me nervous so much spinning mass with no riving knife. So I don’t ever use mine. If I ever need one again, I might check this out. Think that I feel safer doing 99% of things on a router table over the dado. And then I have a track to guide my router if it is a long cut. That makes me less nervous.

    No off cut so no riving knife required, the kerf can’t close. But yes they can be fussy to set up. If I only have one or two dados to do I use a kerfmaker.

    It is not exactly "ILLEGAL" in EU. Problem is with ANY saw with big mass in combine with EU forced fast-stop on tablesaw. And this model still is not usable on EU tablesaws, because of short arbor...

  • @AllenBrosowsky
    @AllenBrosowsky14 сағат бұрын

    In the EU (more specifically the UK which actually left the EU), table saws don't have an arbour that is long enough for a dado stack. That's how they stopped people from using them.

    there's a youtube video - from Stumpy Nubs I think, where he explains how they were banned in most countries because the new saws all come with electronic breaking systems to stop the blade quickly when shut off, and that the extra rotating mass of the blade stack would be too much for the saws to stop rotation within a required amount of time, and/or they could cause the arbor nut to come loose and spin off the arbor. That sounded like a good enough reason for me. After seeing your video, I suppose it must just be yet another one of the reasons why they were banned. I assume that these new stacks are much lighter weight, in addition to the other improvements in order to make them stop quicker.

    I don’t think this is the first ever EU legal dado stack. We have a dado stack that locks together at our shop. We’ve had it for over a year. It came with a saw we bought used. The saw is a Felder so that might be why?

    Normally I watch your videos with enjoyment. This time I feel like this was a 100% paid for video, aka advertisement. Not only did you have your center blade backwards the one time. You talk about the information and how it comes with the case and stays with it. The Freud does this as well. The cases in your video are basically the same even. If you want to do a paid advertisement, go for it, just state that in the video. Also with a majority of your viewers being in the US, why use the UK and EU areas as a justification to do this video? FUD (Fear, Uncertainty, Doubt) to get a video out is poor marketing and a disservice to your viewers. Frankly I would have done a video on "Check out this cool new Dado stack technology. Its safer and easier to use".
