Is the DeWalt 12" Sliding Miter Saw Any Good? | DWS779 Professional Trim Carpenter's Review

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

Hey all! I've had the DWS779 for close to a year and a half now (along with a secondary one I picked up about a year ago) and have loved it. This review walks you through a lot of the things I like about the saw as well as a few of its drawbacks.
If you are interested in purchasing this saw stand or the Diablo blades I use for it you can find them at the Amazon links below. Please know that I am associated with Amazon and may receive a commission from your purchase (at no additional cost to you, which is pretty cool).

Also, just in case you are looking for a good book series I thought I'd recommend my favorite! The Wheel of Time series by Robert Jordan/Brandon Sanderson is an incredible fantasy series spanning 15 books. It's a hum dinger of a read, but it was so much fun to discover! I feel like this book makes you have to go and tell other people about it, so, here's an innocent little link to the first three books of the series in case you want to read them!

I just bought this after my 20 year old DW705 croaked. Thanks for this tutorial. Feeling pretty good about my purchase, which I am picking up today. Dust collection (or lack of) seems to be the only common complaint. I can work around that. Totally agree about the price difference with the 780. I never needed that shadow line either

Just to note as I also have this saw, there is a $70 conversion kit to add the blade light to it. Totally worth the upgrade and super easy to install (took about 15 minutes).

@@vannevels6758 So like I asked, can you provide a link to a product, not a video? The $70 kit is a full retrofit mod to turn the saw into the DWS780. It comes with a replacement molded handle with switch, wiring, plus the light module designed to slot into the saw. This is not just buying a light and mounting it to the top of the blade.

If you want to stay with a DeWalt brand for the vacuum you could use Model #DWV010. This is a great saw that I'd recommend for any beginner. It's not too expensive to pick up (especially if you catch it on a sale), has lots of power, and can do more that a lot of the fixed miter saws.

I previously had the DW718- 12 inch, which is an older version of the same saw. I have had it for around 20 years before the motor finally gave up. I used it almost daily for about 4 years when doing finish carpentry and cabinet building in my own business and cannot say anything negative about the reliability and accuracy of this type of saw. I recently purchaced the Bosch GCM12SD dual bevel sliding compound miter saw for my shop saw and bought the Dewalt DWS779 to take on job sites.
