DECLUTTERING OUR HOME | How We Started Minimalist Living

We didn’t realize we were taking on a #minimalism challenge when we moved out of our house in 8 days to start tiny home living. Now we are happy minimalists sharing exactly what we did to declutter and get rid of excess stuff. #decluttering Vlog 16 | Filmed October 10, 2020

Oh my. This is so true. Goodwill will be getting a lot of my not needed any more items this year. I think you reach an age when you don't need what you thought you needed when you were younger.

Great video. Good to come across some older minimalists here on Youube. I've been on my own journey for about 5 years. Still got aways to go (hubby is a hoarder but getting better over time), but I should be ready for when we downsize BIG TIME in a few years. Thanks for sharing your ideas. Getting rid of "someday" items is definitely something I am working on.

Thanks Libby! Someday items are so hard to get rid of until you don’t have any room for them 😊

Great video. It feels great to get rid of stuff and have only what you need, use and love. Sounds like you have moved into a small space. We have done this and we love the freedom this gives us. Everything is so much easier to deal with, to clean and to maintain. Cannot wait for your next video! Home tour?

Definitely agree. How great that you downsized and loved it. We’re in the process of converting a van into a tiny home and we’ll have a tour when we’re done 😊

I'm a minimalist so I enjoy getting rid of stuff. My husband hates for me to get rid of stuff but when he sees other people and all their stuff he thanks me. What made you decide to rent out your house while traveling? I want to do what you're doing. Van conversion and travel but my husband doesn't want anyone living in our house.

By renting out the house, we have an income from it which is great since my husband lost his job with covid. I completely understand when people don’t want someone living in their house but we found the nicest family so it worked out well. We can’t wait to have a finished van. Hope you get a chance to get out there even if it’s just a week or two rental. 😊

Would love to get minimal, but it feels bad to through the biggest part into the garbage. But it is also hard to find a new life for things. I also feel it to be a waste of resources... What were your ways of getting rid of?

We completely agree. We have a bunch of things to family members. Unfortunately we had to pack our house in 8 days at the height of covid so we ended up giving everything extra to the Veterans organization. We’re just hoping the had a way to disperse everything to people that needed it. If we had more time, we would have put a lot of Craigslist even if for free because it goes to someone who really wants it. The only things that went into the garbage was actually trash.
