Super random but in high school one day this homeless (living by himself) hippy kid with dreads shows up and enrolls. He'd kick it with the skaters and wear high ankle work boots and a canvas like green jacket, anyways one day kids were jumping the traditional size picnic bench not long ways but sideways and this hippy kid with his heavy boots fully clears the bench and then some and does like a pure out of the movies ninja kick in the air. Everyone was pretty hyped up after that and we ended up stacking 2 skate decks on the table as a challenge and watched as he perfectly cleared it, kid made a group of friends that day and was quite a bit less homeless. Some people just have the jump and even heavy ass work boots aren't gonna stop them.

Just look at his shadow, It's clearly over the top of the table when in still frame, even given the angle of the sun, that is definite proof he didn't clear the back of the top, but over the seat. First thing I noticed when I saw the clip, lol. I do feel that an ollie over something huge but with a slight clip can add to the sickness - the street gap with the rail on the other end someone did recently comes to mind. But that's something else than ollieing a bit to the side of what you're trying to get over, especially if your whole thing is superhuman athlete's pop. I like Tyshawn's skating a lot and feel he brings something unique to skateboarding, but this is the kind of thing that can smudge an otherwise pristine career. Not in the order of Sheck's fantasy backside flip down El Torro, but 'all eyes on me' isn't an excuse for not using your own, either.
@PuNaNy Жыл бұрын
It seems even simpler to me. If you look at the front of the table before tyshawn ollies over or around it, you can see the destinct corner edges of where the front corners are established, and from there you can see where they start to run the length down the side of the table the long way. @4:19 you can clearly see where his back wheels are lower and on the side of the table top too because you can see where the front corner of the table starts, and to me looks like hes behind and to the side of it. However i do think his initial ollie was over the front highest point of the start of the table, but like you said, was not done in a straight on point A. To point B. He did drifft off a bit in his landing from the starting point.

yeah 100%. I think his diagram based on shadows was misleading because the sun wasn't at a perfect 90º from the bench (probs more about 60º), based on lines and shadows alone it can still be argued that he cleared full length just did a diagonal path across the table. but that frame is proof he didn't clear, not by that much but still.

love the unhinged geometry lesson s/o Pythagoras. so the first argument relies on the red line *actually* being completely straight and fully parallel to the table right, a slight angle or bend throws off the optical evidence of where youre saying tyshawn ollie's from
@rovingmauler7410 Жыл бұрын
If you look at his shadow on takeoff, you can see that the shadow his board casts is perfectly in line with the shadow cast by the bench on the camera side. This means that the initial takeoff you diagramed was more than generous. In actuality he seems to have started his Ollie and landed his Ollie over the bench only. If you investigate further and see the height of the tabletop in comparison to the height of his knee upon landing, you will see that when he lands, on the skateboard, the tabletop is slightly below his knee height. If he were standing, this would be approximately knee height or slightly above. Furthermore, if you look at the height of the bench, relative to the height of the tabletop and adjust for angle, you can see the bench is approximately half the height of the tabletop. This means, Tyshawn effectively Ollie an object half of his knee height. In summation, Tyshawn switch Ollied an object shin high, for a distance of approximately 4 1/2 to 5 feet. I call whack ass shenanigans.

Thank you, you went several notches beyond what I'd have to justify this - and that's what I love about this channel. Zeroing in on the right and wrong of it, whatever it is. This trick irked me from the instant I saw it. Far more than enough reason to be impressed by his ability on a board, but if the footage (in your soty season part at that) is claiming that you switch ollied a picnic table (probably the most consistent and replicable obstacle across all of professional skateboarding video parts in the U.S. - therefore arguably the best measuring stick of ability and general greatness across professional skateboarders)... and the footage doesn't convey that you did it with certainty, if it doesn't hold up to scrutiny, I mean, you might have done the biggest switch ollie ever, but what are you claiming, did you do what the footage is claiming you did? I think your take is right, no disrespect to Tyshawn, but I too feel it's got to be more definite than this clip.

It's true. I mean in this case it's also hard because you will get all the people hyping it up because it still looks epic (and is epic) but at the end of the day it's not proper enough to be a made NBD, this trick is still NBD for sure and I think most people who watched the part first time probably felt the same way they just didn't say it. People are also tripping saying "it doesn't matter", because this type of thing is basically the only thing that matters and is part of the job if you are a Pro skater. You could compare it to something like being a Pro football/soccer player and saying you scored a goal because the ball ended up in the back of the net, yet it failed to enter through the confines of the front of the goal.

yeah he did the go off to the side thing...I realized that when I seen it but didn't go back and slow it down or anything like you've done here, I didn't really care...I'm not really big on doing straight flat ground tricks over things, I don't really understand the appeal, I think its cool to be able to pop a high and far flat ground trick over something, but its not my favorite kind of skating. Like a lot of people have done on trash cans etc in the past...idk why he took this one like this...but yeah, he didn't go completely over it...he went off to the side for the last couple feet and they used some angle trickery to make it look a little better. As I said, kindof like what numerous people were doing especially in the 90's and early 2k's going off to the side over things like trashcans and poles.

At 2:03 there's a frame where his back truck is the same height as the table top and it looks like half the board is already further out than the table. The angle probably makes it look like he's further out, but it's clear he's at the corner of the table, not the middle. The shadow of the truck is also right next to the shadow of the corner.

How could tyshawn anticipate there would be a forensic analysis of his shadow to prove he didn’t do the trick properly 😂 was not expecting that
Just look at his shadow, It's clearly over the top of the table when in still frame, even given the angle of the sun, that is definite proof he didn't clear the back of the top, but over the seat. Basic high school science, Angle of Incidence(The Sun) equals angle of reflection(Tyshawn) equals no NBD.
Tyshawn definitely didn't clear that table

This is the Zapruder Film of Skateboarding 😂😂😂
To point B. He did drifft off a bit in his landing from the starting point.

love the unhinged geometry lesson s/o Pythagoras. so the first argument relies on the red line *actually* being completely straight and fully parallel to the table right, a slight angle or bend throws off the optical evidence of where youre saying tyshawn ollie's from
If you look at his shadow on takeoff, you can see that the shadow his board casts is perfectly in line with the shadow cast by the bench on the camera side.

At 2:03 there's a frame where his back truck is the same height as the table top and it looks like half the board is already further out than the table. The angle probably makes it look like he's further out, but it's clear he's at the corner of the table, not the middle. The shadow of the truck is also right next to the shadow of the corner.
