I used to fish with my dad on a 12 ft sears w a 2hp from the 50s lol. People would point and laugh but my dad never noticed. So many fun times. Dads gone now, and I have a much much nicer boat. When I think back on all the game fish I have caught, it really doesn't compare to drifting for small mouths or crabbing w dad.

3:08, my guess is that the metal bars are supports to put a tarp over the boat to keep it from filling up with rain water. He probably puts a rope or a rod from them all the way up to that wood board in the front, makes a nice slanted roof and prevents large puddles that can break the tarp.

My dad and I use to build bass rigs from old sears jon boats to make a little money to buy bigger boats. We entered into a bass club and got a lot of funny looks from the boys until weight in time when we took all their money home that day, and quite a few days after that. It’s not about the size of the boat. It’s all about the skill of the fisherman.

05:38 I used to have a small boat like that. I would tie a line from the bow to the back of the trailer (while boat was still on trailer)... I would back in.. boat would float off... then pull truck & trailer forward, dragging the boat to shore, just like that guy did (no dock to tie up to). But.... I did it all in ONE MOTION... I physically never got out of the truck. Oh... and I did it SLOW, NOT 20mph with my dog in the boat! My dog sat in the passenger seat of the truck the entire time.

In regard to the two trolling motors. There's only one trolling motor. The other "trolling motor" is the main. My guess is the gas engine is too fast for slower trolling so he needed an electric motor to be able to troll slower. Another possibility is that if they're going fishing in a weeded area, they can run that electric motor with the prop just barely under the water line allowing the boat to somewhat clear a path so the prop doesn’t get wrapped with weeds.

I own a Regulator 37 nowadays, but my best memories are from fishing in a 14’ aluminum boat fishing saltwater with my best friend at 13-14 years old (wwe grew up on oceanside homes in eastern Canada) We’re still best friends 30 years later.

Don't knock us down people, that's what we can afford. I have a 12 ft jon boat with a 5hp, I can get to shallow areas that big boats can't. It does take me a long time to get there, but I'm in no rush.

I’m not sure what correlates with knocking you down having a boat and knocking you down because you’re unsafe in a boat.

I fish in a ‘14 aluminum boat with a 9.9 several times a week. Of course I’m not in salt water, but I get on some big lakes and catch a lot of fish. It’s paid for, and I’m not trying to compensate for anything….

I used a 2-1/2 HP Aquabug outboard on my 11 ft Jon boat in fresh water rivers for 5 years with very good results but i made sure it started at home b4 I drove to the river. People would always make snide remarks about my outfit until they spied the stringer of 5 # big mouth bass I brought in then they wanted to be my best buddy. I had found several excellent fishing spots cause the boat only went 8 mph at wot. so I could not go very far. One guy tried to follow me to my fishing spot so I got up before dawn where I had camped & rowed the boat out b4 starting the motor, he was quite mad that I would not tell him where I fished.
