I've launched and retrieved from that ramp hundreds of times mostly at night. It's great to watch these videos at your own local ramps. One thing most of these guys don't understand is you can repeatedly put the boat in gear then back to neutral on your approach to slowly bump the boat forward it makes it way easier to line up on the trailer and make small corrections.

Last year I was in Harbor XYZ and the Harbor Master noted three kids onboard a boat didn't have their life jackets on....the harbor master demanded the captain to kill his engine as attempted to leave the dock. The captain rebuffed at first, saying they were just getting underway, the harbor Master corrected him and then gave a $1,000 fine per child.....The other thing I want to note is center console boats with high seating, may seem cool but pose a fall hazard for younger children when broadsided by waves or wakes from other boats....a family boat should keep family members seated below the gunrail....

I have been boating 30 years and twice I almost went over one time was a fish lifted my feet right off the boat my reel was messed up and I knew it jacked me right up. Other time it kicked up quickly boat went up and came down in the wave my feet were high as the front seat I dropped to my knees and ended up by the console drive seat! Best advice I've ever gotten was, "Never approach anything faster than you would want to hit it with your vessel." This applies from my 570 Caver, to my 11' Amanzi RIB. Stay safe and get PFDs on those kiddos and puppers!

Im talking those uncomfortable ones in the 70s. When we complained we were told, "When you can swim back and forth across that lake, we will discuss the life jacket. " I dont know if you know how big the Shuswap lake in BC Canada is, but it was never going to even be discussed lol.

God, I love these. I work at a boat rental agency, and I've probably docked a boat over 1,000 times before... I still remember my first few panics in high winds. As I always tell newbies, take it slow. Practice a few times keeping it straight while plowing in open waters. You can ALWAYS stick it into neutral or reverse, but make sure your prop is pointed where you want it to go.

It does take a few minutes of 100% attention, then you are done and on your way. I think too many people give it about as much attention as their car or truck but the added dimensions of water current &/or wind change everything…. I live in windy country so the funny ones are those still trying to load their boats (pontoons mostly) with their Bimini still open. It’s amazing how that changes everything in a 15- 20 mph wind!! Haha. Stay safe out there, Eh!

I grew up on a Major Inland Salt Waterway. We boated. One of our Hard and Fast Rules was: EVERYONE WEARS A VEST. Why? Because we almost lost an uncle who got thrown out of the boat when it hit another boat's wake at too high of a speed. He smacked his head on the Gunwale on his way out, and was knocked unconscious. We managed to retrieve him before he drowned. That was the instant The Rule was born. I don't care how well you think you can swim. WEAR A VEST. Because even if you CAN swim, and are still conscious, the Puget Sound is COLD.

Wow, that red Sun Tracker had some whale weight on board. It's amazing how many uneducated amateurs there are on the waterways. Thanks for sharing your videos.

I use the winch all the time for my boat. Nothing wrong with it. And yes, jet skiers are annoying, but if I was a jet skier and a boater came in on me like that, there would be an issue. They can wait their turn to get in.

I thought the pontoon was going to take out Roland Martin. You would think he would have taught his wife how to drive a boat? Guess it's, "been awhile", lol

It’s not as hard as some people make it look and it’s not as easy as some people make it look. Depends on situation. If you have a under powered pontoon boat with 16 grown people on it and no one ☝️ I mean no one trying to grab the dock and throw a line on it. It gets tuff for cappy. Especially if the wind and current are hauling tail.

Same with me. We moved on a lake in 1960, I was ten and could not swim. My parents put an adult red and white stripe live jacket on me and turned me loose. I learned to swim and float soon after. Babies and children need life jackets. And swimmies on their arms do not count!

In response to your hilarious spider web comment, a captain told me his dad told him, "if ya can't tie o knot, tie a lot". I think this was due to his inability to tie a decent knot. Cheers!

As a father any child under 13 when on the boat has to have a lifejacket on and butt in seat before motor starts so most times sitting in it as the boat is getting backing in and out no reason to have them fall and get hurt when trying to have fun

For the dude winching his boat. In the state of waSHITon. It's illegal to power your boat on. Prop thrust causes erosion

Here's a big fat note for all you boating enthusiasts Captains fishermen jetskis guys. Boats on a lake where fishing is involved. Mixed in with PWC. Bad combination. Lot can happen. Lot can go wrong. Take lake LBJ for example
