No kidding, it hits home here in Canada. Our PM blames the provinces for housing crisis, while increasing immigration like there is no tomorrow.
"Who the fuck did that?" "I did." It's the little things 😂
All these years later ... and it's STILL feeling topical! That's great writing, right there :)

The problem with selling off the property is that we all know it would wind up going to some developer mate for a fraction of its value and then o sold to some Asian businessman for a kings ransom.

Love the blocking of this scene. Rob is acting like Luther, Obama's anger translator.
Was this satire, or a fly-on-the-wall documentary? It's been a while since I watched it.

And today I got a text about another rise due cost of living. Yeah, that'll help mine of course.
the hypothetical aspect of selling Kirabilly would be interesting... what does the opposition say to that, when their leader wants to be living in it in a few short years...

It'a not a complicated hypothetical. Short term PR gain for the incumbent, providing a few bucks to splash on more pork-barrelling, then it's gone from the public forever. Not a win. Worse than selling utilities for the same rationale. Do I need to say Telstra ?
I don't think he's flexible about that flexibility😅
Timely.
"the man would be happy to live in a tent, but he needs to entertain important heads of...umm.." "breakfast radio show hosts"?"
The PM can pick any Dan reply such as, " I will not be drawn on hypertheticals" or just ignore the question altogether.

100 mill for the PM's residence? The government blew 316 mill just today on defence contracts.

The defence stuff can be justified, there is a war on in Europe and an East Asian super power is getting pushy and expansionist. But the posh beach house for a politician can nor be justified.

To be fair, for once this isn't as big of an issue or as shady of the government as many other things in this show. The PM of Australia has two residences, The Lodge in Canberra and Kirribilli House in Sydney. The French President has three, including a massive palace and an island fort, the German president and chancellor have several residences/retreats and a palace to host state guests, the Italian president has a main residence and two summer retreats, the Swedish prime minister has a residence and a summer retreat, the Polish president has half a dozen residences ... This is entirely common in most democratic countries (and can get outright excessive in authoritarian states), and as residences go Kirribilli House is a VERY modest building compared to the castles and palaces of other nations.

It's not, which is why Merv thinks the audit is laughable at first. It was only ever a stupid smear job--it just happens to be a smear job that's come back to hit them. But the fact that they're so unwilling to take the obvious route out of the smear job puts the lie to Tony's constant opining that the PM "doesn't care" about his luxury summer home.

Jet set Albanese, 18 overseas trips in 18 months aboard AirForce one private jet. He's not to blame for "global warming" or is it "global cooling".

Some purposes of the flights: Attend a meeting of key allies in Japan (this meeting had been scheduled by the previous PM to take place two days after the election, ScoMo obviously supposing he would have been the one attending (imagine the outcry if the new PM had refused to attend this meeting!); meeting with Indonesian president, our nearest neighbour; travel to India, an important trading partner; attended G20 and G7 to meet with leaders of world's biggest economies, in the process fixing up a few relationships that the previous government trashed (France); travel to South Pacific nations to persuade them not to enter into military partnerships with China. Also Queen's jubilee, Queen's funeral and coronation of King Charles. Imagine the hullabaloo from the conservatives if he had not attended these events. All of these things spund like part of the role of the PM in representing the country internationally and similar trips have been made by previous PMs to the UK, Europe, USA and Japan. (Though not to the South Pacific, which is why they were all cosying up to China). Where did Albanese not go? To Hawaii in the middle of a national emergency, and home for Fathers Day in contravention of a Covid lockdown. Short memories.

The writers of this show must have contacts in these political swamps for the stories to be so consistently plausible....Apart from the jokes you just know selling off an asset just to stop them looking bad has been done. You need a mental illness to work in that industry I swear or to get one real fast.
