Dead Can Dance - Sanvean ( I Am Your Shadow )

Музыка

Grup ilk albümünü 1984 yılında aynı isimle çıkardı: "Dead Can Dance". Perry bu isimle ilgili "Ölüleri dans ettiriyoruz, çünkü ölüye dirilik katmayı; diriye ölülük vermeyi düşündük grubu oluştururken" demişti. (Wikipedia adresinden alıntılanmıştır.)

In 2007 I was alone in a hospital in Bangkok needing a four level cervical fusion. My closest relative was more than 9,000km away. I asked the surgical team if I could have my Sony Walkman and headphones on when they came to take me to the operating theatre and this was the song I listened to as they took me down. I didn't want to die and given the choice I would rather have had my daughters with me but that wasn't possible so I blanked off the world by listening to Sanvean. Not a bad sound to listen to if it's the last thing you hear on earth.

Barriers my friend. We all put up barriers to protect ourselves. My father was a hard hard man who retired as an RSM in the British Army. As much as I wanted to, I couldn't penetrate his wall. He left this sordid world last year and we gave him a scottish piper to aid his departure in a true Scotsmen style. As for me, I hear this amazing and beautiful anthem and it just leaves me in bits as my soul is now searching for answers. Sadly, they disappeared with him

This gets my vote for the single greatest vocal performance in history. Lisa Gerrard is seriously the greatest of all time. She just exists on a different plane, in a different dimension from the rest of us. Whenever I play Dead Can Dance for someone who's never heard it before, and they ask what the lyrics are, I have to explain that she cannot be restrained by the confines of regular language. What she does is almost in a different realm of understanding. Some people get it, some don't.

4 January 2020, Palermo, Sicily. I saw Dead Can Dance live back in the 1990s at the Town & Country Club (London-Kentish Town) and at the Union Chapel (London-Islington). At the end of each song we, the audience, hesitated over applauding because the atmosphere both their music and her voice created was so unearthly and graceful that you wouldn't have wanted to spoil it all with a trivial act like clapping your stupid and cumbersome hands. An the end of each song we would clap but we would start very timidly...one clap at the front seats...then another very feeble clap at the back seats and then... slowly building up to a huge clap all together. Never experienced a similar thing with any other band playing live.

Would have more respect if you had jesus or your god fixing things because the world is in a mess. So far looking at the current results i am not impressed. I’ve been a fan of Lisa and DCD for 20+ years but when I first listened to this song 15+ years ago… the music, her voice, and her words touched my heart and soul so deeply and profoundly that I felt like I had transcended to a different realm, space, and time. The combination of everything left me in tears and utterly speechless. I’ve never listened to anything that had stirred up so many emotions and feelings in me. To this day, this song still touches my heart and soul on a deep level and it still makes me cry. Lisa is truly a gifted and remarkable person with a beautiful gift and I will be forever grateful that I was introduced to her and her music so long ago. ❤

I've watched and heard this for YEARS, no matter, each time I listen it touches a nerve that nothing else ever has. Elation, sorrow, hope, and despair. But all so beautifully tied together. I've stated it, and hope it is honored that this should be one of the few songs that are played at any ceremony to my inconsequential life. Thank you DCD.

I've noticed from watching her live, that when she does open her eyes. She's not looking at the audience, it's as if she isn't actually behind her eyes if that makes sense. Because she's clearly channeling such an exquisite beauty from a realm, that no one is meant to see, but we have been gifted the rare opportunity to hear it, and to feel it. Lisa doesn't just vocalize in her performances, she lives in them, breathes all as one entity.

Nicholas Lindsey I agree-and she is definitely channeling. She has compared it to opening a vein and allowing it to flow through her, and therefore to her audience. She is receiving it, and giving it to us. I don’t feel like she is a typical “performer” who is mostly ego. Kristen Hersh also seldom looks at the audience, especially in her earliest shows with throwing muses, it’s almost scary like she is not there. Kristen also has described her process as music coming at her like electric fire, and the only way to get it out of her is to open her mouth and let it out. Kristens process is scarier somewhat, because she even said she had to leave her body, and that in her normal state she didn’t even know the songs or how to play them.
