My wife took me to see Dead Can Dance in San Francisco right after we got married, I had no idea! Lisa Gerard’s voice permeated my soul. 16 years later that woman died in my arms, she so loved Dead Can Dance. We would play this music on our sailboat while we swung in the hammock drinking wine up on the main deck. I cry every time I hear her voice, that oh so beautiful ghost that still haunts my soul to this very day. I hear this music and can still smell Karen’s hair, sweet memories of her flood back and for just a brief moment a tender mercy of happiness flits across the arc of what’s left of my life. I’ll never love like that again, but this music helps me remember…

Her voice is rich, powerful, dark and on top of all - her approach to singing is non-pretentious and very sophisticated. All so while she's singing, dressed in neutral colors, with nothing to distract the listener from her captivating voice. I wonder how tall she may be?

It's like a cauldron of sadness, regret, pain, loss, remorse, hate, fear, anger and darkness was poured over your body and soul which consumed you with all the worst feelings and experiences you had in your life. Then. Light appears, then hands reach out grasping you with care, comfort , love and pull you from the dark and stop your torment and fill you with love. As you rise you realize your sins are forgiven and all who you love are watching you come home, forever.

This post was initially given over 17years ago, and was shared to me by a friend on Quora. Today in Gaza, terrorists bombed a hospital which was sheltering not only the I'll and injured, but also those sheltering from a war raging onward by a terrorist organization known as hamas. As I listen to this song now, with eyes closed, once again, images of many in complete anguish filled my mind, filled with fear and desolation as a bomb exploded in the hospital they are in. Tears come to my eyes at what they must be feeling. This song relays all that they are going through. But this exquisite voice also has hints of hope in it. Dear God, in your mercy, lift up the people suffering now, in both Israel and Palestine. Be with them now...

When I was a young boy I went on a holiday by a lake, one day we were invited to take to the water on kayaks, it was a thrilling experience I have thought about it often, riding paddle in hand atop the still surface of the lake. This strange music speaks to the longing of my heart to once more return to that lake and fulfill my one desire, to tread like Christ on the gentle waves inside the miracle that is, a kayak•

Lisa Gerrard (& Pieter Bourke) Channelling something from the Beyond. I have a personal relationship to this song. I listened to this album while I was in labor with my first son, Noah. I listened to this track at least 15 times over the course of my twelve hour labor. It helped bring my boy into this world. Tragically he lost his life 3 years ago, at the age of 18, and now the song has extra meaning. He is in the Beyond. The place from which he came. This song helps transport me to where he is... Thank you

So beautiful and so sad at the same time... A voice like no other... Every time I listen to it I'm transported to another world and it's always magical like the first time I heard it.. I've always felt it is a lament... the crying of an existence that this world brought to the edge of sacrifice... but managed to survive by glimpses of bright light...

Love Lisa Gerrard. Always thought this happened to be one of the finest examples of being in the moment. Everything we experience in this performance is coming from her inner being without a filter. It is beautiful and almost frighteningly breathtaking because it is so honest. Lisa has such a gift for being able to connect with herself first...for the benefit of others. Real artist.

She takes me to middle earth, I mean physically takes me there. Growing up pre-smart phone Britain with our old stories and culture, instilled a sense of longing for a magical place, like the Norse idea of Midgard and the other planes. That’s been paved over with corporate buildings and answers to every question (sometimes with threats if they’re questioned). But her voice revives that belief, that it is out there somewhere, maybe I’m too close to the cities, or maybe it’s something we haven’t created yet, or forgotten how to create… Perhaps one day.
