DCS World - MiG-21 vs F-4 - MiG Trap, Vietnam 1972

Ойындар

On 27 April 1972, two USN F-4B Phantoms from USS Coral Sea were tasked with attacking targets over North Vietnam. Heavy cloud cover made the task impossible so they set up a CAP station south of Hanoi. Red Crown, the USN radar ship warned them of an approaching MiG from the north. Phantom leader decided to intercept the MiG but second Phantom's RIO, experienced Lt Cdr James Souder on his 335th mission had a strong feeling that something wasn't right. The thing looked like a classic trap often used by MiGs earlier in the Vietnam War. With their older Phantoms lacking look-down capability, with low overcast and low fuel state, Phantoms would indeed find themselves in a disadvantageous position.
The new 2.7 variant of DCS World with its amazing new cloud system now makes reenactment of such historical missions where weather played a crucial role, much more credible.

    Excellent work as always! Yet, I am always amazed at how many people comment/complain about the aircraft being the wrong model number, the wrong armament, wrong ejection seats and wrong ships, etc... Especially after you clearly explain this in every single video. Pay attention before being so quick to criticize and correct.

  • @showtime112

    @showtime112

    3 жыл бұрын

    Thank you! It seems that most criticism comes from misunderstanding. Some don't even realize it's a simulation and maybe think I'm using some kind of 3D animation software. That would probably take a year to do a single video 😁 Others think that a simulation can have all the aircraft, ships, vehicles etc in every variant that existed. It would take a century to make such a simulation 😂

    Yeah, but if you have to explain away everything, then wait until you can do it accurately. He may as well be using a Ford Mustang against a PAK FA. "My video game software didn't have the correct F4 phantom or the correct plane number; also, it's not the correct skin but I put together this simulation anyway so I can get subscribers and be popular on KZread". I'm sure we all have heard the addage. If you are going to do it, do it right.

    One more great Historical Video Content coming out of the Showtime112 treasure chest. About the music. Maybe some people are not really aware of what can happen to one's KZread account if you use copyrighted music without the permission of the original Artist or the Music record company. KZread can close down your account i wouldn't take that risk by any means. And if some people feel the music was not fitting with the video content then that's the way it is in life one cannot please everybody it's not gonna work. Yo !!! From a USN vet. A little work on your research. Ticonderoga Crusers weren't used during the Vietnam war. They were first commissioned in 1978.The Long Beach was nuclear powered built on a WW2 cruiser hull. I knew a retired USN commander that served on the Long Beach in the Gulf of Tonkin. The Long Beach had shot down several Migs with Talos Rim 8 missiles. The USN Commander was the weaps officer and was part of those shootdown. Also the part that NVA had mutual respect for Pilots and Aviators who were shot down and were guest at the Hanoi Hilton if you watch the footage and interviews I dont think NVA had mutual respect for the POWS captured during Vietnam. Please take a break from gaming and CNN, read some history books....

    You probably mean well with this comment but my advice to you would be to pay attention instead of making quick criticism. At 8:08 I clearly explain that there are some inaccuracies here because of the lack of assets in DCS World and that such cases needed to be approximated with available assets. I specifically mention the Long Beach. And I am perfectly aware that Ticonderoga only came later but that's literally the only US cruiser in the game. People don't understand how complicated it is to develop a model. Aircraft modules such as MiG-21 here may take more than 10.000 man hours and more than a million dollars to develop! And as the result, we will never have a simulation that has all the aircraft, ships, tanks etc. As for the mutual respect thing, again you misunderstood. I know that during the war, American POWs weren't exactly getting the Geneva Convention treatment. I was talking instead about the meetings between American pilots (some of them ex POWs) and the Vietnamese pilots that took place decades after the War. I read the accounts of these meetings form several American veterans and my impression was that there wasn't any hate or resentment from either side. That's what I was talking about.

    Hm. It's a bit like saying that swing music has nothing to do with WWII. And more precisely, it's hard rock, not heavy metal. I'd really, really say it has a lot to do with the times. This genre completely defines the early 70s. Sure, this song is not nearly as good as Hendrix, Zeppelin, Deep Purple or Sabbath but those are all copyrighted. It is still loud and dramatic (just like fighter jets) and it evokes the era. I know because that's ,my favorite period in music.

    @@showtime112 It's not so easy. Don't get me wrong. I do understand pilots, they thought that they have right to do what they do. But today we can see how does it looked like on the ground. Many innocent people killed. Most military targets were just an imagination US high stuff, and it's not my word. So use to say US pilots who were sent to bomb jungle. Most targets were just civilian objects. There is no word in my language to describe what I think about a man who drops a bomb over city or village. Almost everyone in N.Vietnam lost someone thanks to US bombs. To be honest I am very surprised, that Vietnamese people were so polite to US pilots after catching them. I'm not sure If people in US would be so polite being in the same situation. How someone who came with Idea of "Killing free" zones expects to be treated like a human? ... It's ... Nazi idea. The only difference is that Nazi tried to hide it and made it in "Concentration Camps", while LBJ, Nixon, Westmoreland and others had no shame. BTW. I strongly recommend "Vietnam" by Ken Burns. Well, thank you for your opinion. I don't think the music is cheesy. Is it as good as the original from the period? No. But originals can't be used because of copyright. The idea is to make introductions cinematic. And I don't think movies are ever made without any music, right? To me (and probably the majority of people in the West), the soundtrack of Vietnam is hard rock. That's why I think it fits, regardless of anybody's personal taste.
