Honestly my motivation is just that it’s cool. I think it’s so impressive when people can speak more than one language. I don’t need to be fully fluent, it’s just a dream of mine to be able to carry a conversation in German competently

People don’t understand how amazing it feels when you just passively understand things in another language. I’m learning Spanish right now and randomly I just understood some of despacito and it was a song I’ve heard for so many years but Ive never understood it before it was like “en la playa en Puerto Rico” and it was so cool how I could perfectly understand it without even trying it made me so happy it’s a completely amazing feeling different than any other
You've been a role model to me, after i watched your Ted talk, THNKR and everything, I'm glad you're back I've been waiting for this.
Bro I used to idolize you when you used to put out videos, when i got the notification for this i almost had an infarction

I haven’t seen a video from Tim in forever!
My biggest motivation is that I love learning languages and I really do im always dreaming of speaking with different languages different people and now after watching your TED video I wanna be like u, u r my motivation Tim !
My motivation is to improve as a professional, to be able to communicate easily and in a fluent way. Prove myself that I am capable of doing it.
Probably some of the most things thats motive me to learn new languages are the feeling of discover new words, understeand people speaking in other languages , expres myself in diferents forms, and the posibility of know and talk with many new persons, from other cultures and countries
Love you buddy and welcome after 5 years

Is anyone else's motivation that there's a global pandemic, I can't leave my house for months and I feel like I need to achieve anything to stave off the impending doom feelings? Just me then :/

The main reason is that I want to travel and know a lot of people around the world because I desire to connect with other different cultures and know about them
My motivation is that I love to speak other languages and English is one of my favorites (my mother tongue is Spanish). Also, I need to speak English if I want to work in other country.
Right now I am currently learning Dutch, my motivation is that I am a big fan of a boyband from the Netherlands called Fource. I first heard them when they represented the Netherlands in Junior Eurovision 2017 and thought nothing of it. Last year I rediscovered them and found that they still make music. Most of it is in Dutch and it's really cool! It got me wanting to learn the language, so I could understand their music and their videos or social media posts. Now I have branched out and watch a lot of tv shows/films in Dutch, youtube in Dutch, and have found more great Dutch music. Currently, I find that I can understand a lot of Dutch spoken in videos and such without having to figure out what every single word translates to, I can read some short sentences in Dutch, but I struggle with communication in Dutch whether that be spoken or typed.
I've waited 5 years for this video.

I decided to learn a foreing language because I always felt curiosity of knowing other cultures. I think the language is an important part of the culture. On the other hand, I think speaking english is a worth tool to get better work and academic oportunities around the world. I'd like to travell to other countries and be able to comunicate fluently with the natives. Moreover, I wish to certificate my english level taking an international exam.
I am learning languages for many reasons. Now the reason I want to learn Polish is that I want to communicate with polish people in youtube understand their culture more...
You. I want to know what you're talking, so I learn English. This is my first motivation.

Am I dreaming? Is this reality!? Are you really back!? :D
I haven’t seen your video for ages! Welcome back and its nice to see you again!!!
Nice to hear of you again !
I’m pretty sure no one will see this but I am learning languages because as a young Puerto Rican/African American/German I sadly was kind of robbed from my own cultures. Due to living in America I never really got the chance to learn my own traditions, let alone speak my own languages :( I have such a high passion for Spanish and French. I look forward to learning more of it everyday. I have a friend who speaks, reads, and writes in fluent spanish and he helps me out. I hope to learn 5-6 languages after college. I want to help out in poor countries (preferably Guatemala and other under poverty spanish-speaking countries) and I hope to find a spouse who also speaks a native language to help me retain my spanish/french speaking.

I'd like to learn: -*العربية * because of religious reason and history, -*spanish* because of history and the accent sounds sexy for me 😅 -*Deutsche* because i have Germanian Dad and wanna study there one day. Keep inspiring others Tim! Salam from Indonesia
Finally something from TIm! curious what comes next.
My motivation is you
You posteeeedddd
Woah Tim!!!! It's been so long! Nice to see you and this is a cool video
You are my motivation 😀😀😀😀
My biggest motivation was to become like you because you seemed so happy with learning all those languages in that viral video. I wanted to be familiar with different cultures and how language affected them and visa versa. I took a French class but no one around me spoke french so it was a bit a waste of money, but five years later I bought Le letit Prince and started studying again ^_^ I also took a Spanish class last year, I want to visit South America so much, hike or ride a bike all along the continent kind of like Che Guevara did. But because of the economic crisis I won't be able to visit neither France or America for a long time probably. I'll keep dreamin'.
I speak French and Spanish reasonably well and am comfortable learning new languages. I'm a Van Gogh specialist and decided to take a Dutch language course at the University of Toronto. I thought it would be a nice courtesy to speak to Van Gogh people in the Netherlands in Dutch. It was terrible. Dutch is a nutty language. I didn't come back for any follow up courses. I admit I was a bit lazy and thought "Aw, every Dutch person speaks great English anyway."
I almost died after I saw the notification for this video !!!! Great to have you back 😀😀😀😀

I'm learning languages to Improve myself and to learn other cultures!
My motivation was the desire to travel and communicate with the locals in their languaje. I want to know what they think and say, to share with them.

@@DevadevamJagannatham the website called LingQ is very good. There are some good youtube channels as well, like Russian with Max and Russian Progress. Learn Languages with Netflix is good as well, but that's probably for the more advanced learner. And for the grammar there is a youtube channel called Russian Grammar. Although I'd say you should wait with the grammar till you have an alright vocabulary, that'll make it easier.

The guy who's from B&H does not sound native at all. He sounds like a foreigner, but I guess that's what happens when you abandon you mother tongue for a new one and then many years later come back to it. He has trouble with the Rs which can be heard right away, but that has little impact on someone understanding you.
Tim, in my opinion this video is too short..but I know, I know, you're too fast..
