This new 18.6 is a huge bummer for me personally, even simpler tasks like timeline shuffling or ripple deleting has become very laggy and resolve has crashed 10 times within 3-4 hours of editing.

Facial recognition is awesome and works about 90% of the time, which is great. There's a massive disadvantage to it, depending on your workflow: It greatly increases project file size. One project of mine went from 6MB to about 120MB after running facial recognition on about 300 clips. That means that now the automated project backups would be multiple GB im size. Furthermore, in our case, the remote editors which are loading the project from our server would take multiple minutes to load in. Where before you could open the project in about 10-15 seconds, it would now take so long Resolve would freeze up and crash on a regular basis, making us move back to sending project files back and forth without any collaborative editing.

To be honest since 18.5, everything has been fairly stable, I’m using a Mac M1 Studio Ultra, with the Davinci Resolve studio version. What I have noticed upgrading to MacOS Sonoma, is a general increase in many programs/apps, however the slower stuff on resolve renders etc have remained the same. No issues though, still quite smooth sailing.

Have you tried rendering 6K RED to 720 H.264 MP4 or 1080p ProRes Proxy. Prior to Sonoma, 18.5 and 18.6 were very crash-happy. Since reverting to 18.1.4, it has been smooth sailing. Afraid to bother with 18.6 or higher until BMD or multiple users report greater RED optimization and fewer if any crashes while transcoding it. I am on an M1 Max MBP.

Here are the specs (below) for Macs, not PCs, But I agree more RAM is better. Also, with an N-4080 you may be better off right now. But I switched over after 40 years of PC because it was cheaper to go with Mac mini (M1 16GB RAM). Again, if you do this for a living, you need a high-end machine, no matter if it is a PC or Mac. I am waiting for the Mac Studio M4, which I will get 64 GB of RAM. For those using macOS devices, you should have: macOS 11 Big Sur or later. 8 GB of system memory (16 GB for intense graphics work) M1 Apple Silicon CPU (or Intel core i7 on older Macs) Integrated GPU or discrete GPU with at least 2GB of VRAM and supports Metal or OpenCL 1.2. A fast Solid State Hard Drive (SSD) Yeah, old man's two cents, I don't PC guys and am not really a Mac fanboy; it just works for me, that's all. Enjoy your DR editing!

Been using Da Vinci on the Mac Book M1 Pro for the last year and I can say it's been absolutely flawless in comparison to premier pro. This new 18.6 update has been causing me major problems. Loading footage onto the timeline didn't appear to show waveforms. They appeared eventually after clicking onto another timeline then returning. I then noticed that playing each clip seemed to have no audio for the first second although the waveforms were visible. At one point copy and paste closed Da Vinci Completely. Adjusting a Multicam open timeline just wasn't possible without full system meltdown 🤯 Ive had to uninstall 18.6 to get work done.

Yeah, same here. I had to rollback to 18.5.1 because of these kind of bugs. Running on Mac Studio M1 Max btw.

Yeah, I run a Mac Studio M2 Ultra and it crawls. A single NR node and playback splutters at under 10 fps.

Performance wise , are there any videos of a comparison between an m1/2/3 chip Mac vs pc with an Nvidia 4090/4080/3080 for example? Which is better for resolve performance, I need to decide whether to buy a new Mac or a new Nvidia card. Thx

Magic masks used to take like 2 minutes to work, sometimes, often they would do nothing. Hope it's working now lol (RTX 3080)

I'm having issues when I delete any clip from the timeline the audio doesn't fill the gap from the deleted clip which leaves the audio with a gap on that location so I have to go to the audio manually and correct that every time very frustrating.

rtx 3070 studio driver here with fast nvme m.2 , 64 gb of ram ddr4, ryzen 7 5800x . the achiles heel of davinci (18, and above is what i tried so far) is definetely in the render area and the export area. on that regard I wish it was simple and effective like premiere.

Great video Alex! - I've been looking for advice on how to move the studio version to a new PC and keep all the original settings, I can't find anything, is this worth doing it?

Hi Alex. The bypass button seems to be stuck on Enable even if I have it disabled. This happened when I updated to 18.6.2. It seems like a bug but who knows. The color page does not do any changes until I exit out of resolve and go back in but then the bypass gets stuck on Enagled again. Im on a mac. Do you what could be causing this? Thanks...

Whenever I use magic mask it always seems to be terrible - am I doing something wrong? Do I need a cleaner background or a brighter subject?

Thanks for your video. I am looking to upgrade my eGPU which is rx 6700xt to rx 7900 xtx. It's connected via thunderbolt 3. However, I'm not sure if Davinci Resolve support the OPTIMIZED NEURAL ENGINE feature on this video card ans an thunderbolt connected GPU! I hope you know the answer to my question and could guide me before I purchase the card. Thanks in advance.
