Phillip H Anselmo No doubt about it. One of, if not the best front men any rock band ever had. He had "the look" in spades, and his high energy vaudevillian stage antics as well as his keen business sense made VH into the iconic monster that it became more than anything else. Eddie, Alex, and Mikey were each masters of their respective crafts, but they didn't have half the vision and raw "crazy like a fox" genius that Roth had in abundance. Btw, you the real Pantera Anselmo? If so, I'm a big fan homegrown style. I used to go to your shows at Joe's Garage back in the old days before you made the big time. Good times.

This guy is a brilliant marketing machine for vh....
Doesn't matter how scrambled a picture is. As long as you wind David Lee Roth up, just let him go and you capture gold till his batteries die out, which doesn't happen lol. I hope Martha learned a lot here, cause most other interviews don't go like this. This wasn't a difficult one, but others are far more easier lol. A ton of fun here. Love it.

And she was obviously smitten with Dave.
When you sift between the comedy and self-aggrandizement you find a gem or two - like Dave being honest about stealing musical ideas from other people. Everyone does it - consciously or not, but few admit it and some, like Michael Stipe, ridiculously claim to never have been influenced at all by others.

Good times.
"Lot of people have nothing to say in between songs" man I feel this. so many of my favourite bands are like walt disney on stage, it's depressing. I've come to see YOU homie! And don't give me that "it's about the music" crap. Of *course* it's about the music. But if it was only about that I would have stayed home and listened to the album!
"If you take a Van Halen record and stick it in your collection, it'll melt the other records." Where did I hear that before? DLR or Cheech & Chong? I remember that line from somewhere back in the day.
This is a one in a million interview, total genius being interviewed. He might be a jerk in private life but he's the ultimate rock-star, the alpha of his kind. So ahead it's embarrassing for the competition. Actually, there's no competition.

Martha admitting to having a MASSIVE crush on DLR. Personally, I think women who find Dave attractive deserve a case study 😂 Top 5 frontman, though.
David Lee Roth was as important as EVH in Van Halen.... maybe more important. Van Halen got boring and corporate after DLR was kicked out of the band. Seeing DLR entertain on stage was like going to a circus, but with kick ass music that could more than hold its own. Attending Van Halen concerts in the 80s before SH was a real event.
