David Gilmour - High Hopes
Музыка
Meltdown Concert Royal Festival Concert 2002
Beyond the horizon of the place we lived when we were young
In a world of magnets and miracles
Our thoughts strayed constantly and without boundary
The ringing of the division bell had begun
Along the Long Road and on down the Causeway
Do they still meet there by the Cut
There was a ragged band that followed in our footsteps
Running before time took our dreams away
Leaving the myriad small creatures trying to tie us to the ground
To a life consumed by slow decay
The grass was greener
The light was brighter
With friends surrounded
The nights of wonder
Looking beyond the embers of bridges glowing behind us
To a glimpse of how green it was on the other side
Steps taken forwards but sleepwalking back again
Dragged by the force of some inner tide
At a higher altitude with flag unfurled
We reached the dizzy heights of that dreamed of world
Encumbered forever by desire and ambition
There's a hunger still unsatisfied
Our weary eyes still stray to the horizon
Though down this road we've been so many times
The grass was greener
The light was brighter
The taste was sweeter
The nights of wonder
With friends surrounded
The dawn mist glowing
The water flowing
The endless river
Forever and ever

The very first time I've listened to this song was in the day my mom passed away. Days after, I read the lyric with more attention and I realized the main message the song brought: great moments that I would never have again but at the same time I would have, as sweet memories. That's the power of music.

Legends
Many times we become fans of an artist by some one else's influence (a friend or relative) but few times we become fans of an artist on our own, because we really feel attracted to their art because one day we listened to their music and we identified ourselves with them. That's the way I feel about Gilmour since his early days with Pink Floyd I discovered it on my own and it's been amazing.

David Gilmour when we meet at the pearly gates I know you will be playing your guitar in the honour of the LORD. Every time I hear this song I am moved, truly you are blessed above others to have the insight and vision of "High Hopes". WOW just WOW, you are rightfully named DAVID, for he played the harp to calm the spirit resting in SAUL, you David Gilmour have given rest to mine and countless others, whenever I have felt broken down. May GOD bless this musician and his music till the end of days. I wish that one day I have the opportunity to listen to you live. 👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏
That is just mind blowing! the strings and vocals are amazing.
This is such a awesome song and Caroline Dale makes this song even better with her Cello and her beauty.🎶

Beautiful version. Between Molly's lyrics and David's music and production, this song always rips my heart out. I'm always a bit melancholic after listening to this. "Looking beyond the embers of bridges glowing behind us to a glimpse of how green it was on the other side." So many regrets.

And Michael Kamen
I find this one of the most moving pieces of music.
This song shows up just how much Genuis David Gilmour has. The song is great studio version but this live version has so many different instruments from the cello to the bass and Michael Kamen on the piano and English Horn. David on slide guitar. The background singers are a perfect match for this also. Who does this ? Has to be a musical God, yes David Gilmour.
I wish the endless solo must go on.
I am addicted to this awesome song. David Gilmore and Caroline Dale are awesome musicians. I so love this song, it is timeless and a classic which is awesome. Rock on always.🎶
"The Grass was greener, the lights were brighter" ....musical perfection ala Gilmour...back every couple of weeks for more of the same. Massive stuff, always a treat.

This is the perfect song to listen to at the height of the current "Corona" uncertainty - I certainly have 'High Hopes' that all will be Ok.
This version is brilliant. The guitars and cello are simply spectacular. Gilmour is a genius. I just can't believe that there are 148 dislikes. My best guess is that ONE idiot did not like it and the other 147 people clicked accidentally because they were curious to find out who that idiot was!

Been a fan of Floyd and this man for 35+ years. Bought all his albums, seen him live a few times. Other than his musical gifts he seems like one of the most genuine, humble, and kind people and has been a hero of mine for most of my life. If you are interested there is a very good 1 hour+ documentary about him called "David Gilmour - Wider Horizons". Check it out.
impossible to explain what I feel when I hear this song
one of the most beautiful songs in the world
I remember coming off a wildfire in Washington in 2014 and playing this version in the truck with a few of the crew members. It was the last day of our roll and we were beaten and miserable and in a state of euphoric exhaustion, this song was the most beautiful thing in the world in that moment. After the song came to an end I realized how much I appreciated the Crew and what we had done and how much work we had put in. On top of everything though I really appreciated Pink Floyd and DG and how beautiful their music is.
I'm in tears.
Forever and ever...
I cant explain how much i love gilmours work . He is my favourite !!!
