I would go sing this and they would do something crazy that meant nothing to anybody else except them..Celine would give me exactly what I asked for which just thrilled me, but Whitney would give me something different and 99% of the time better than what I asked for..that was part of the genius of Whitney Houston.....😭😭😭😭😭beautiful and talented.

There was no one like Whitney Houston ever. The beautiful petite model with a huge bombastic voice. Whitney was head and shoulders above the rest. Setting and breaking records, Sweeping most of the awards at award shows, Becoming a bona-fide movie star from her debut movie the Bodyguard, Having the greatest Star Spangled Banner rendition of ALL-TIME. So many receipts/proof that attest to this woman's greatness. Whitney was IT. There never will be anyone as great as THE VOICE. The mould has been broken

That is genius. Ppl talk about her writing her songs. Who cares. She was a SINGER like no other. Even ppl who wrote their own stuff dont bring it accross as skillfully as Whitney. Thats talent. When David said she would do even better than what he asked for - man, she recomposes the work vocally that even the writer/composer has to submit. Super respect

Typical industry mumbo-jumbo aside, I appreciate his comments about her artistry. This is the thing that Whitney fans have been saying for years. There are countless great singers, and every now and then a truly phenomenal one with come along. But Whitney had that special thing that put her on a level with the likes of Aretha, Judy Garland, Ella Fitzgerald... It wasn't just that she was a great singer, there was an indescribable awe-inspiring element that one must be born with.

whitney is genius, who sing a different way & even better than david asked of .. that's WOW !

She was incomparable and incredibly great!

David Foster changed the note for "All by Myself" higher than it was at first, when Celine said to him "Why did you do that David?" David said to her "If you can't do it, Whitney can" that's all Celine needed to hear to hit the note!

all by myself was recorded in 1996 and whitney's voice was very out of her prime ( especially when it came to very high belts ). She couldnt sing all by myself better than Celine IN 1996 but 1988 whitney would have nailed celine's version or everybody else's

She was a artist that had balls to sing a song without even having a voice to sing it and that's why she is the best female singer in the world she was the definition of a singer that's not afraid. #sheisthevoiceofallvoices

I wish I met her she was such a rare singer her live performances were always better than her studio records you cant say that often with singers now a days.

We hear the words come right out of their mouths and yet still doubt. If they had the balls to say she is the best, then they probably meant it. Everyone wants to speak negatively because these music professionals are giving Whitney her props. If you don't agree, that's you. When you are interviewed, and you probably won't be, then you can give your speech on who you think is the best. Trust me, praise like this has been given to her even before she passed. Why is it so hard to believe music pros really do esteem her as the best, or one of the best? We can hear it said by so many people so many times and the denial remains. Face it, Whitney had something special and will always be listed amongst the greats.

People on KZread have made it a contest, I'm sure you've noticed. You can question my "music pro" wording all you want, but he is more of a pro than you or I. To say that he's said that about other singers is fine, like I said, she's ONE of the best. Besides, it's all a matter of opinion anyway. The "best" is a title that will be given to a number of people. I just don't understand why people question why she's named. Understand?

There are untruths all over the internet, but what I do know is that she influenced a ton of singers and she has many, many fans. There are many singers who deserve props, who changed music history, there's no reason why wet can't acknowledge them all. Her voice, her tone, her charisma and passion are unforgettable. She had that "something" that was hard to explain and made you feel a type of way when you listen to her. Billboards, sales, and her many awards aside, she was a great piece of music history to many. Saying she was one of the greatest is certainly not a stretch.

She was boring to you, so that means what? Thousands of people would beg to differ, including me. I can listen to her voice all day. I love her passion on stage, and watching the crowd, they do as well. She had an incredible voice, why is that even a question? There's no need to discount her voice and stage presence because YOU were bored. Promotions/marketing or not, her voice is unforgettable as are the voices of many singers I can think of. I've heard Patti say it, Beyonce, Baby Face, Brandy, the list goes on. Again, like we've both said, it's a matter of opinion. What I say vs what you say vs what a music pro or singer would say, it will always vary. There's room for many up there in the "best" category. Each of these talented singers, songwriters, musicians, dancers and artists have given us their unique and wonderful talents and that is to be appreciated. I may not love certain singers as much as the next, but I won't deny their contributions to music history. For me and many others, it's Whitney, MJ, Stevie Wonder, Celine, Aretha, and many others. For others it may be a whole different list. Whitney was an incredible talent, her voice sufficed and her emotion exuded. I am one of the many who love her. It's okay that you don't, but I don't accept that she's was some average talent.

I've watched her on tv and KZread a million times, do those performances not count? You discounted her stage presence and called her boring, to me it seems you didn't think her voice carried her enough to make the performances "not boring". I was born in 1980, so I was around for her career. She's always been my favorite. I feel like I have handled this like an adult, you seem to be the one throwing a hissy-fit right now. I'm sorry you find me pathetic, I just want to be a fan that gets to express my appreciation for who I enjoy. You mention them talking about other women in music, that's fine. I told you, there's room for everyone. I'd love to give that a listen. I love music, I love a great voice and I love celebrating women in music. I'm not sure where your quarrels with Whitney come from, but as a fan, of course I will speak to support her. I don't feel my time was wasted, I've enjoyed this dialogue (and I'm not being sarcastic). Perhaps we can end on a good note.

Its beautiful the amount of love she had from her fans through out her life. Her voice was angelic when she was making the iconic songs in the 80s and early 90s with the Bodyguard, and still commanded and wowed as it aged and took on a more deep r&b oriented sound, its kinda sad that her last performances were frankly wreck-ish, but the songs had full and utter soul to the end

Her debut album was the best selling debut album in history by and female before her or after. het bodyguard sound track is still the best selling female album her preachers wife gospel soundtrack is the best selling gospel album by male or female. LOL what planet to live on ...records ? Please if every other female that came along, was promoted like Houston. 1/2 million dollars spent on her debut album and 3 million on a promotional tour. Hate to break this to ya.... the preachers wife is not the best selling gospel album of all time ! Stop reading wikipedia. Mahalia and Aretha both have gospel albums that have sold more. And no not every producer and writer say she is the best. Her debut album hasn't been the best selling debut since 1993 ! The Bodyguard isn't a studio album - so it's not considered the best selling album by a female - that is Come On Over by Shaina Twain. She also doesn't have more awards than any other female - she or her team have just applied to the GBOWR for the certification - that's all, and her awards are not all industry awards. Lastly her sold 15 million albums and had one gold single in the last half of the 80's in the US. That is less than the 20 million plus albums, and 15 million singles sold by Donna Summer with Casablanca records in the last half of the 70's in the US. The RIAA didn't start multi-platinum certifications until 1984. Summer left Casablanca in early 1980.

The Preacher's Wife isn't the best selling Gospel album? Where are your receipts? And The Bodyguard IS a studio album. A studio soundtrack album. That's why Whitney won both Best Album and Best Soundtrack Album of the year on Billboard, thus she DID outsell Shania's Come On Over. Why are you so envious of Whitney?

He told Oprah the same story on Whitney vs Celine. Funny how there, he made it sound like he preferred that Celine understood what was in his head, and was connected to him. Here, he tells the story in a way to make it sound like he preferred what Whitney did. Maybe he prefers both, but I find the way he changes his tone a bit disingenuous. He's catering to the audience in both cases.

Reid said whitney was the best singer ever, then he worked with Mariah and said Mariah was the best saying that no one in contemporary music could be compared to her, then after whitney died die he said again that whitney was the best. These producers have to make peace with their brains 😂

No one is ultimate, everybody has flaws even the so-called greats, each has his/her own imperfections.

When Diane says she was the best we have heard in the last 40 years that is completely over doing it, and exaggeratory. If she has of said the last 20, I would say ..yeah she can get away with that. Sorry Diane, but we cannot forget Aretha Franklin, Barbara Streisand, Donna Summer or Linda Ronstadt.

tangled55 You obviously don't know what your talking. Streisand owns the USA, sold more than 74 million there... no other female is even close to that.. Madonna is at about 62. Houston's inflated number have been coming down rapidly since her death.. and the reality of the soundscan era takes it's toll on her assumed sales as opposed to her actual certified numbers.

+jubbadupa I understand what you mean, but its all about what sounds pleasant to your own ears. No way could everybody ever agree on the best voice we've ever heard. In my opinion, thats Mariah, but some will argue shes not. There were people before whitney and mariah that were very instrumental and influential in music, and deserve to be recognized as so. People like Barbara streisand, donna summer, linda, aretha, dolly parton...they were all a big deal back in their days. Its not always about how many records were sold or how many sold out concerts they had...because at the end of the day, miley cyrus is sellin out arenas, making "hits", britney spears has sold out numerous shows and has been #1 before...and those two voices; are not necessarily the best I have ever heard, so just because of that, they're one of the best? ehhh no. So like i said, its all about whats pleasant to your own ears. I wonder who started all this competition amongst singers anyway, it seems as though once the 90s hit music became one big popularity contest.
