Dave Edmunds and Rockpile - Girls Talk
Музыка
Looks like a clip from some English TOtP-type show, maybe fellow YT users can help me with this one. Either way, Dave and the boys run through Elvis Costello's "Girls Talk," apparently on the same rooftop where they shot a few 45 covers for Carlene Carter.

Dave Edmunds, a very accomplished vocalist and guitarist. anything with him and Nick Lowe in it is an instant classic. they were just so cool in the late 70s.

"She may not be an old-fashioned girl but she's gonna get dated." CLASSIC line!

It’s a hard song to play. Sneaky
This song remembers me when I met my wife off 42 years now that was a tune indeed 👌 🏴
I grew up as a kid in the late 70s and 80s listening to this on the radio, used to be a favorite song of mine and it still sounds great all these years later.
Honestly Rockpile made some of the most memorable pop records of that or any other era. Genius.
Great song. It was in the charts in 1979. It got to No. 4 in the UK and to no.65 on the US Billboard chart.
Rockpile could have been so much more than it was. You got an awful lot of talent standing on that stage.

+jasonwheel As well as Rockpile's Seconds of Pleasure album, check out Dave Edmunds' Repeat When Necessary album - it's the same Rockpile group, just under his name. Came out a little before the Rockpile album, IIRC Likewise with Nick Lowe's Labour of Lust album. So really, there are three damned good albums that Rockpile gave us....

Agreed...it seems a bit odd that the members of the band achieved more solo success than as members of the band itself. Great musicians, nonetheless. Cheers.

Dave's voice is brillllllllllllllliant! Great music!
Hey Americansquirm, The video was shot on top of the Warner Bros. off building overlooking Rockefeller Center Mid-town Manhattan. It was shot and directed by Martin Pitts and Produced by Derek Burbidge.
The vocalist had a mature voice back then. Today, he maintains a crisp, clear diction, better than most of the golden oldies for his age. Under rated and underutilised. Raw sound would have been accepted among the classics of 1950's. 1979 was a remarkable year full of many one hit wonders. Timing!

Are you calling Rockpile a one hit wonder?
I had tickets for Rockpile - my greatest heroes back then - in Gothenburg, Sweden, in 1981. I can still remember that horrible feeling when reading about the group splitting up and that the whole tour was cancelled... A major trauma.

Remember it well -brilliant. Edmunds did it like Costello should have done it - he misread his own song!
I cant agree more..im 46 and love Heavy Metal and Punk, but nothing compares to great music like this. BRING THEM BACK!!!
They were easily the best band in the world, by a wide margin.
Kick ass job on the bass by Nick
Lowe rockin' the 8 string bass- killer!
So Many Memories Thank s Dave and Nick lowe 😊
Man, this song reminds me of my teens, pimples, bad hair, and trying to pick up at the local roller skating rink. Thankyou Dave,Nick,Billy and Terry. Fond innocent times.

All due respect to Costello -- this is the definitive version. A masterpiece. This video doesn't do it justice -- but stil. Thanks.
Heard this song on the radio at work today for the first time in forever. Still sounds great.
Rockpile! My, how I loved these fellows back in the day. God bless 'em.
Great version of a great song. Thank you so much for posting this. Costello's genius is timeless.
This is one of my favourite pop songs of all time. I just bought this album about 2 years ago cuz I heard this track in a wine bar somewhere in London and thought, what a perfect song.
heres my input.... this song has played constantly in my head for 3/4 of my life.
Just love this song......for those in Australia I can still remember sitting watching Countdown when he and Nick Lowe performed live. He sang this song and Nick performed Cruel to Be Kind.
I am in love with Dave Edmunds,FOREVER! ❤
After years and years still thrilling to hear
This record changed my life. Love the twangy guitars!
I was lucky enough to see these guys in Manchester UK around 1980 - great!

Just magic ,real music from a great musician. How lucky i have been to live through these times. Many thanks for posting.
Great song and done well by Dave Edmunds. I particularly like the tribute to the Everly Brothers by using chords used by the Evs in their song 'Problems'.

amazing song from a golden era , well done dave.
Filmed on top of the Warner Brothers Records Building in Manhattan and shown on TOTP. If you listen closely at the beginning you can hear a bit of Jimmy Savile introducing it.
So old skool. Better than the stuff these days
Seem to remember watching this on Multi-Coloured Swap Shop (?) with Noel Edmonds presenting on a Saturday morning and then going around to a friend's house and talking about what a great song this was. Surprised they didn't go bigger

They actually had recording contract conflicts and so they weren't allowed to really tour as Rockpile much. If they'd been given free range and full support? Indeed, they would have been huge, and they do still have a strong cult following.
I was late to work today and forgot the lipstick and powder. This song popped right in my brain and I HAD to hear it. Loved this song for a million years.
quarantine? no problem with great tunes like this
Wonderful!...Thankyou for uploading.
Rock on drummer! ....Ah the Agora - East18th - Coffee Break Concerts - saw Joe Perry Project - saw Ramones one night - now a sad parking lot - drink beer and the hi-way entrance was 25 feet away. Perfect.
Didn't know this was written by Elvis Costello 'till years later. Lovely feel to it. Very 1979.
Note the Drummer...The great Terry Williams who went on to drum with Dire Straits and Meatloaf..Top Man!!1
Great song, really changed how I looked at (or, listened to) music back then.
A popular song from my childhood.Still a great song.
Love this song!!
Saw these guys in Vancouver, probably around 1979. They were great. So's this video.
Sooooo loved this song when i was 14..... Nothin like REAL MUSIC ...rock on dave!
Absolute anthem! Great stuff.
What a great tune. Cheers!
A song from my teen's,love it Rockpile were great
miss these ❤
Coming from NY, I'd like to think that this clip was shot in Manhattan but it could be any city w/ lots of skyscrapers. Love this anyway, Nick Lowe, Dave Edmunds and Rockpile rule!
so good..
This was on Dave Edmunds awesome solo record "Repeat When Necessary". The "Queen of Hearts" cover is on that album too. I wore that record out. As well as Rockpile's "Seconds of Pleasure" album. Both albums were released during the 1980's. But Dave, he was around since I was a kid in the 1970's. Damn good songs all those musicans played and sang and wrote (I'm also a big Elvis Costello fan too).
I saw Nick Lowe in Albany, NY not too many years ago--three or four. I was thrilled that he came to such a small venue (The Egg, which is a weird concrete structure that is shaped like a deviled egg, Google it!) He gave it his all for a great performance. Dave Edmunds and the rest of Rockpile need to visit this rather remote area in upstate NY--we love you!
I agree a totally brilliant song .I love it. A very under rated artist
this could possibly be the best version of this song!
