Regardless of the merits of Lambert as a manager Agbonlahor, Bent and the Villa squad of that era were a bunch of bad apples and terrible professionals...downed tools for several managers.

Paul Lambert.....European cup winner...Darren Bent....didn't even play in the League cup final that Spurs won.....huge difference in quality of player and mindset.

Bent was a wonderful forward for 2 seasons at villa but he certainly changed when he came back from that injury l. we literally survived for 3 years on a spine being Guzan Vlaar Delph and Benteke. When the latter 3 left we dropped.

When I was called out on this, rather than be humble and show unity.. I challenged the managers authority in front of the entire squad. The relationship went sideways after that... I don't know why." Pretty much. Lambert called me, made me captain; asked for my opinions and was clearly pushing me to have a great impact and role within the squad....he soon realised I was a self absorbed lazy waste of space that gave nothing back and marginalised me. Shocking.

You can tell there is more to it with the way Bent reacts when its suggested Lambert calls in 😀😀😀

Lambert did a lot more than Bent did in his career. Champions league winner and played in a Uefa cup final for Celtic. Had Zidane in his pocket for Dortmund..........

He was, people seem to judge him on an indifferent spell at Spurs and what Redknapp said, but his goal record speaks for itself - was a cracking striker in the championship at Ipswich as well.

@@daniyaalhussain7593 oh please 60 of his goals all came in a 4 year period, the majority of the goals he scored in his career were done in leagues lower than the Prem He's a championship level player end of story Every time he was pushed to actually work so that he could improve he'd piss n moan saying he was being used and pressured or that the manager didn't like him, there's a reason the last 8 years of his career nobody even knew his name

Daren was a great forward and looked like being excellent for Villa but we sold our two best wide men and never replaced them- the next season he got no service

Didn't money play a part too? Bent had played 40+ games for Villa. The rumour was that we'd have had to make an additional payment to Sunderland if he made 50 appearances, so Lambert was told/pressured not to play Bent.

Bent had a terrible work rate and lambert needed a big physical striker to fit his system. When Bent would come on he'd sulk and jog about the pitch. He could of been a top player if his ego wasn't enormous

Paul was brought in to keep Villa up that was it. Villa know finwell that Paul was a manager with a defence first mind set so you should look at the clowns running Villa at that time first before you start blaming Paul. For Villa's sort comming when Paul was manager. Villa where basically a fire sale of a club at that point they where in a terrible financial mess at that time. thankfully Villa are in a better situation now massive club & important club in English football. I am not a Villa fan but I do have an extremely long memory & sharp as a razor something I am surprised I still have considering what I have been through health wise.
