Fun fact, brussel sprouts deserved the bad rep until recently. Until a couple decades ago the common strain of brussel sprouts was high in glucosinolates which gave them a bitter taste that kids didn't like (though some people had a genetic difference that made them unable to taste the bitterness, like some people and cilantro). However, through many years of selective breeding, scientists created a new strain of brussel sprouts that are low in glucosinolates and have a sweeter and less bitter taste. Glucosinolates are also the same compound that gave broccoli, kale, and cabbage it's bitterness as well, though I am pretty sure those have gotten better too.
