Stock, the CRF300 Rally is really a very good polyvalent bike on- and off-road.
However, if you want to use it for more advanced off-road, after the tires upgrade, you need to upgrade for sure, the rear suspension and front fork.
For around 800 euros you can upgrade the rear suspension, change the fork spring and oil with all the specifications and references as mentioned in the video
Indeed, the stock fork and the rear suspension are spongy very basic components, giving the bike a bouncy behavior in bumpy conditions, losing grip when accelerating. And when bouncing in the mud this cause a dangerous loss of control in the steering. When entering deep water pits the bike bounce causing the steering to become unstable and vibrate. And in long water crossing the bike is swimming up and down slowly like a dolphin.
With the Wilbers upgrade now it’s a complete different bike off-road.
It gives a robust and confident feeling to attack challenging conditions, absorb the bumps with very good stability, maintain the grip in muddy conditions, and remain stable when entering water pits
With a proper balance on the bike, it even feel like floating over water with the rear wheel continuously delivering the power due to the better ground connexion. The stability, grip and sharp steering gives very much confidence in the mud.
All these improvement are also evident in drier conditions.
In order to make a coherent upgrade, since it’s a budget bike with reasonable power, it’s not necessary to make a big investment on the suspension and fork. For around 800 euros you can upgrade the rear suspension, change the fork spring and oil with all the specifications and reference as mentioned in the video. I chose the Wilbers upgrade, which is a great combo for me, but I know other reputable brands offer similar improvements. But ultimately, this upgrade is essential for anyone seriously considering off-road.

    I have done the same upgrade & completey agree. For me there is no need for "better, read more expensive" spring upgrade's. Wilbers is top quality & has a reasonable price. Tested it also off-road with full lugage & with this upgrade the Rally takes it all.

    Indeed, this was confirmed again this weekend. The CRF equipped with Wilbers was able to keep up with experienced riders on KTM500 and Husqvarna350 bikes. While it may not be on the same level of these bikes for enduro, you can definitely enjoy sessions like this (video coming soon).

    Sympa la vidéo ca pourra être utile pour mon père qui roule aussi avec une Rally et comparé à ma 250l ses suspensions sont vraiment pas bonnes pour le offroad.

    Hier, ride off-road engagé avec des enduristes chevronnés (KTM500 et Husqvarna 350). L'upgrade Wilbers a clairement assuré, et les a surpris par leur efficacité 👍. Video à venir...
