BMW asked me to test their F900 GS Enduro

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

Time to drop some truth bombs on BMW's new Adventure bike, the F900 GS Enduro.
I'm becoming more and more selective with the bikes I ride and feature on my KZread channel. Observing the rate of new models flooding the market, where upstart ADV manufacturers are pitching new models against long established offroad brands seems a very fickle scenario.
Anyway, respect to BMW for sending their bike to my farm.

Most use their bikes on the roads. A big boxer BMW is in fact very fun and capable bike on the pavement. Can do well on the racetrack and still go offroad if one wishes.

Last year i was between this and the World Raid, but as soon as i realized the tank on this bike holds only 14L yet it weights 13kg more than the T7WR, i went with the WR. Plus this is filled with electronics, which i prefer not to have. Lately i also developed a serious case of mistrusting BMWs reliability. Plus the WR was a bit cheaper too, so no brainer there. Now, after 20+ years riding, 50+ owned motorcycles, i can confidently say that the T7WR might just be one of the best bikes ever made. Its almost like they took the recepie of the original 750 Africa Twin and said "ok, lets just make a new one of those, but with fuel injection and abs brakes", cuz everything else is pretty much the same. Same susp travel, same tank size, same weight, similar proportions, similar engine size/power/characteristic, etc. The T7WR is pretty much a new age 750AT, and i absolutely adore it. Never selling that bike, cant recommend it enough.

  • @Skiamakhos

Ah, there's the catch. I looked at the size of the engine, and the power & torque, & thought "That's an Africa Twin but 16kg lighter!" But really it's only lighter because it's carrying a load less fuel. 🤔

I ended up with a Desert X, it seemed like the DX is exactly what all T7 owners wish a standard T7 was in terms of features etc. I would have given the T7WR a serious consideration but alas, Yamaha sucks and do not offer the T7WR in the USA. In the end the DX is amazing but I upgraded the suspension to Tractive and now it is almost untouchable and that is said with caution because I also own an 890 Rally. The DX is amazing offroad and almost even better on road. I owned my last BMW (2021- R1250GS) I don't think this new BMW will be as sought after as the T7 variants, 890's or DX's but you never know. I would love to see Adam give the new DX Rally a good thrashing. Maybe one day Yamaha will wake up.....;-)

@@chrisvantassel8867 yeah i dont know why they dont export the WRs to the US. I was talking to someone over at Yamaha and he said, tho not confirmed, that the WR variants should came to the US as soon as production numbers meet the high demand. They are barely keeping up with european and asian/oceania demands, imagine trying to keep up with the US demands as well, nearly impossible for them right now. The DX is reeeeally nice as well, always wanted to take one for a spin

@@chipsnpeasifuplz the range on the WR is insane. Yamaha claims up to 500km range and let me tell you, they are being very humble with that claim. On normal riding conditions (no offroad) with me as the rider (1,84m, 90kg) and a backpack (about 12kg), ive done about 620km on one tank, and i recon i could have kept on riding a bit more since i drove to the gas station before the engine starved...

Great (first part) review Adam (love the channel by the way). I'm getting back into motorcycles after a long long long break and wanted something to adventure on - i liked the idea of being part of organised rides and the BM GS stuff was looking like a great place to start and get involved - and then late last year i saw this machine being lobbed into the market - so things aligned and now i have one of these (in fact the exact model) - have just run in for its 1000km over the last few weeks and now its on it way in a truck to Sydney to start the 2024 GS Safari later this month. Getting those 1000km on it was important for me to get use to riding again !!! i've been watching lots of your tips on off-road work over the last few months - its really inspiring stuff and i almost couldn't believe my eyes when i saw you riding this bike and showing what is possible (over time with lots of practice, clearly) .... obviously no bike is perfect (even though the T7 your are modding is getting close right) .... looking forward to part 2 when you tweak a few things with those front shocks .. its certainly taking things in the right direction for mid weight adventure type bikes anyway - which i think is great by opening up different options for different folks ...

Hard to even consider adding a 900GS in between them, or to swap the 900GS for the T7 ...I'm not feeling it. Besides that 900GS is nowhere near as intoxicating as an uncorked T7 with a full titanium exhaust system. Nowhere near.

Just recently I took this bike on 2-day BMW enduro training and fell in love with the bike. Feels lighter and easier on slow technical stuff, compared to top heavy T7. Easier as the seat height is a bit lower. Loved the ergonomics of the handlebar, brakes and clutch and the predictability of the brakes. Rear brake gets bent constantly and rear pegs need to go as the clip your boot constantly. The engine - chinese made - sounds rattly and loose. T7 wins here for me. But overall bike feels like home to me. If only it wouldn’t be so damn expensive. If you could throw some comparison to T7 in your opinion; ergonomics, weight, center of gravity, it would be greatly appreciated.

No need for massive amounts of power or sanity. Would the 900 be comfy over distance? My skeletal arse gets sore at distances over 2 miles so it's so important. Well Adam, honestly not a BMW fan but hey as I get older who knows, you've gotta keep an open mind, but from the reviews I've seen on this F900 so far I'm pretty impressed, because it's the only bike they have produced in it's class that's even close to what I'd call a great adventure mount. I'm sure I'll get shot down for saying so.😅 Excellent review and cinematography, film making whatever you call it. I love honest reviews and not the promo crap. Good job mate! 👍😜🇦🇺

I think the older one you rode given the photos was the 800 with the fuel tank at the back not the 850 which was a bike that spawned this 900.

Great Vid mate, look forward to the next episode. I wonder what a stripped back T7 esq version of this would be like. Kinda begs the question if BMW have Darkar ambitions again?

I’ve watched every F900 GS review on the internet. This definitely has the best action shots with the arse drifting. When I test rode it I was amazed at the balance of the bike too. I signed a contract to buy one the same day.

Great honest review for this bike as all the others so far give you specs and staff you would expect them to say. Debating wether to go for one of these instead of a World Raid. Cant wait until the second installment on this review

I always had that thought, how you keep your camera and lens clean and out of dust, when you put the tripod just few meters next to you when you passing by ?? Of course is weather / dust resistance , but again , theres a looot of dust... I scare to put my a7iv near at the place that i drive with my T7 !!
